Old Rock Photos Treasure Find

The T-P ran an article today in the Living section about old nightclubs and music venues. Well, on the last page all the way in the back, they finally got around to Warehouse. For those of you too young to know about the Warehouse in N.O., it was just that. An old warehouse on Tchoupitoulos St. It was hot or cold, sweaty, stinky, small, and quite possibly the best music venue in the country. I'm telling on my age now but it was awesome. Anyway, there was mention of guy, Sidney Smith, who took a lot of photos at concerts at the Warehouse and has them posted on his website.

http://www.rockstarphotos.net/index2.html

The one drawback on the photos is they are not labeled. You had to have been there and recognize the places. Edgar and Johnny Winter, Allman Brothers Band, Joe ****er have pics from the Warehouse but there are also pics the Municipal Auditorium, and BR Assembly Center.

It's scary, I was at some of those concerts in his photos. My favorite concert was the last Humble Pie (HP) performance ever. Led Zep had played in Baton Rouge the night before and HP played two shows at the Warehouse. Well, needless to say, Zep shows up at the Warehouse to pay their respects to HP. There was no curfew at the Warehouse. Bands stopped playing when they wanted to. HP and Zep jammed till about 2 am.

Just saw a photo that knocked me backwards. One of Paul and Linda McCartney in clown outfits at Mardi Gras. I saw them that day. I ran into them (literally) and knocked Paul down. It was funny at the time. They were having a blast.

I've been trying to remember all the concerts I went to at the Warehouse. Here's the list so far:

Humble Pie ( Led Zep jam)
ZZ Top (several times)
Allman Bros.
Golden Earring
Boston
Eddie Money (Blah)
Dr. John

Jeez, I know there are more, but I lost a lot of brain cells in the 70's.

The program is on Thursday night at 7PM WYES Channel 12. Since it is 90 minutes(most of their programs are 60) it will be full of interruptions for pledges. Hopefully, they'll have it uninterrupted so you can tape it. Very curious to see the old photos and film footage.

One thing that struck me about the photo was 2 people in the front row at the Warehouse holding bottles of Boone's Farm. Now that really takes me back!

I have very fond memories of concerts at The Warehouse.

Saw:
Alice Cooper
Eddie Money
The Cars
(Jim Dandy &) Black Oak Arkansas
Alvin Lee
Elvis Costello
to name a few....

The place was a dump, but we had lots of fun. You always
gave the neighborhood kids from the projects a couple of bucks to keep an eye on your car (remember that?)

I remember at the Alice cooper show, some guy climbing
up across the wooden rafters and dropping down onto the
stage with Alice (of course he wasn't there long!)

My sister & I hung out at the backstage door until we got
to meet Jim Dandy. We each got a photo with him and a kiss.

Met all the members of The Cars and had them sign my promo
copy of the "Candy-O" album. Still have it....How much could I get for it on Ebay???? ......

What great times we had at The Warehouse......

Hi Marc

Hi Marc,
Thanks for dropping in. I love the pictures but they sure do remind me of how old I am. Nice web design too BTW.

Re Alice Cooper: He was a hoot. I didn't see him until one of the City Park concerts. Big show and a great showman. I still think Alice started the trend of the big show bands like KISS and ELP.
