I heard a news report this morning that its gonna happen. They are going to build another stadium and abandon Yankee Stadium for other small time ballgames and such.

I think even nemesis Redsox Fans agree with this. Its just sad when they don't refurbish but rather dump the old stadium that has so much history associated with it.

Red Sox Fans: Imagine trashing Fenway.
Cubs fans - Imagine trashing Wrigly field.

But the house that Ruth Built!!!!!!! All those championships! The Bambino must be rolling in his grave!

I use to go all the time to playoff games the year after they rebuilt Yankee Stadium in 1976. I even have a 1977 penant when the Yankees won the world series at Yankee stadium the first time since it was refurbished. But that penant was made up years earlier when they shared Shea stadium with the Mets and lost in the Series at Shea to I believe it was the Dodgers. In 1977 they won the world series at the refurbished Yankee stadium but the 1977 penant I have says 'Super Team 77' manager Billy Martin and a picture of Shea on it. I didn't notice it until I got home. pretty neat ice of memorbilia.

I believe right next door. Staying in the Bronx. Yeah, Neighborhood stinks. Use the George Washington Bridge and Deegan Expressway from jersey and lots of traffic. Try the short cut down the Harlem River Drive and across the Macoms bridge and your guaranteed to get qa squeegy slapped on your window whether your car was just washed and waxed or not.

I heard on the news this morning that this little project is going to cost $800 million dollars. I've been a Yankee fan my whole life, but this is too much. Too extravagant and too self-indulgent especially in times like these. That money could have gone for so much better and more important things. What a waste of time, energy and dollars :rolleyes:

Its all about the luxury boxes ...thats the only reason theyre building a new stadium..the new stadium will have 60 luxury boxes that they'll be able to sell for for a million dollars each .. the current stadium only has like 12 luxury boxes so theyre missing out on alot of money compared to other new ballparks ... and with about 7000 less seats it'll be even harder to get a decent seat

I heard about this on the news last night and I think it's a shame that they are doing this. I agree with you Mark, LOTS of history in the current Yankee Stadium. I for one would love to see it refurbished and not have a new one built. They certainly can do something more useful with that $800 million instead of a new stadium. Another piece of history is going to be gone!

I agree Mark. I like the Stadium NOW. First time there, my 10th Birthday, Aug 13, 1977. Sitting in upper deck. 2 hour rain delay. They finally played. Chris Chambliss wins it in bottom of 10th with a home run which whizzed literally 2 rows beyond me and Dad's outstretched hands!!!!

I was at a game where Chambliss hit a 9th inning game winning homerun during 1977. But I thought it was a playoff game against the Royals. :confused: Sure it wasn't a playoff game Gregg????

Now I also read that the old stadium will be coming down to make a field/park to replace the existing space where they are building the new stadium.

They are also designing the new stadium to look like the old. So why tear down the old? Just upgrade it. Not like its so old that its architcturally unsound anymore!

Mark you're talking about 1976 when Chambliss won the ALCS against Royals to advance and sadly get slaughtered by The Big Red Machine :(

$ and winning!

But during the Babes Tenure as a ball player, the Yankees said to Babe, "If you like, we can afford to pay you an extra $100,000 a year more" would the Babe had said:
"No thanks, I think I make enough as it is".

I doubt it

Do the saints have that big of a payroll? Because they haven't been real competitive in a while. Spending cash and not being competitive is wasted $. George might spend it on the Yankees but they make the playoffs each year.
