Fortune Magazine published a great article of the outsiders assessment of New Orleans one year after Hurricane Katrina. It is a long read, but the New Orleanians should find it interesting. They hit the nail on the head.

With New Orleans having no intrastructure and no leadership for getting this accomplished, why would anyone want to rebuild in New Orleans. I am born and raised in New Orleans but moved to the Northshore eight years ago. I understand about tradition, family etc., but what kind of future is anyone there going to have and how long is is going to take to get back to a sense of normal if ever?

I too, live on the Northshore so I know what you mean. I don't think it will ever be the same again. At least not in our lifetimes. I remember New Orleans as a kid was a wonderful place, almost majestic. It had a certain mystery to it. Now it is so full of corrupt politicians and ghetto trash that it kills me everytime I think about it. Having said that, I still love it...warts and all. There is no other place like it. I guess you could say that it's like having a child who took a wrong turn somewhere in life. You know that they are living their life wrong, but you still love them anyway.

I read the whole article...even printed it out and have it in our break room at work. A good article...breaks my heart The truths are hard to swallow. I also love New Orleans....trash and all. I remember the beautiful times I have had there and continue to have. She will always have a very special place in my heart and always will. May she rise again.
