My friend Don told me about a band called Honeytribe which is led by Devon Allman, son of Greg Allman (The Allman Brothers Band). Went to check it out and found that it has some nice mp3's for download from their upcoming CD release. As a matter of fact, when you hit the link below a small pop up will appear and the mp3's will start playing automagically like a radio. A pretty good guitarist (not up to his Uncle Duane yet - but give him time....) and a fine vocalist, I think you'll like it:

Another relative of the Allman Bros. band is the young slide prodigy Derek Trucks (nephew of the Allman's drummer Butch Trucks and currently touring as second guitarist with E. Clapton in Europe (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/leisure_trucks_dc)). He's not as generous with mp3s, but you can sample his songs and watch a cool video biography. Been playing onstage since he was 12!

He happens to be married to the talented blues singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi (sings like Janis Joplin or Bonnie Raitt, plays like Stevie Ray Vaughan) whose album Hope and Desire features a version of Richards/Jagger classic "You Got the Silver" that puts even the Stones to shame. My friend Greg told me about her and I need to pick up some of her tune-age too!

Now, someone from outside the Allman mafia also recommended to me by my friend Greg (and my friends on the Jeff Beck Appreciation Society Yahoo Group) is slide guitarist extraordinaire, Sonny Landreth. He can slide and pick (sing and chew gum?) at the same time which is quite a feat! He is also an endorser for those amazing "Transperformance" guitars (http://www.transperformance.com/) that change tunings while you play just like Jimmy Page and Randy Jackson (of the rock group Zebra dontcha know)!! You can hear mp3 "samples" on his older albums. Canton, Mississippi's pride and joy to be sure:

Finally, the latest great guitarist to make the rounds at the JBAS (http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/jeffbeckappreciationsociety/) is Blues monster Joe Bonamassa. His site has a great video clip of him jamming "Bridge to Better Days" on some German TV show - maybe their version of David Letterman? It's also got several mp3's for your downloading pleasure.

I recently picked up some excellent local Fort Worth blues CDs by the late, great Robert Ealey. I was lucky enough to catch him at the New Bluebird Blues Bar in downtown FW with Don and his wife Sarah and at an outdoor festival that my wife Hester got to see as well. He was an extraordinarily good performer and a fine purveyor of the Texas blues. My friend Sumter Bruton, proprietor of Fort Worth's Record Town (across the street from Texas Christian University) and former bandmate of Mr. Ealey has some out of print CD's of Ealey that anyone in the DFW area would do well to check out. Here's a cool website celebrating Mr. Ealey:
