Are there any songs that you thought was one artist, then you find out it was someone totally different and it surprised the sh*t out of you???
I always thought
Smoke from a distant fire (Sanford Townshend Band) was Boz Scaggs and
I Can Help (Billy Swan) was Ringo Starr!!!
Any others you can think of???

Great thread again!!!!!
Mott the Hoople - All The Young Dudes
I used to think it was John Lennon!!!!
But if you listen to the lyrics you can tell its David Bowie lyrics. Straight from his Rebel Rebel and Suffojet City days.

Very first time I heard Queensryche Silent Lucidity I thought it was Pink Floyd. But then I was like, Who the heck is on vocals. So I figured it wasn't them quickly enough.

Me too!
The first time I heard Badfinger's "Come and Get It" I thought it was The Beatles. I was almost right.

When I was much younger, I thought it was Kiss who sang the songs "Jailbreak" and "The Boys Are Back In Town." Soon enough, I found out that it was Thin Lizzy who sang those songs....

Definitely realize that now, but when I was a kid, I didn't know any better!

Great Badgfinger tune. Good reason for it to sound like Harrison on guitar - it was him! Had a chat with Joey Molland about it one time.
Here is some info about that tune: http://www.superseventies.com/sw_dayafterday.html
If you don't know badfinger and like Beatles or Wings music and want to hear something refreshing, get this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004X0Q5 the Very Best of Badfinger. Some of it is truly amazing. You will recognize Harry Nilsson's "Without You" in its original form. What? You don't know Harry Nilsson either? Well, that's a topic for another day.

Study that Trivia Greggo. Rushtrader gave you the answer a couple posts earlier.
Here's another piece of trivia for you since we were talking The New Cars and The Beatles .
Todd Rundgren and George Harrison Produced most of Badfinger's major label material. :)

...and speaking of Todd Rundgren, did you know that Utopia was the backing band for Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell?

Thanks so much Rushtrader and Mark. Awesome too! I always knew the tune "come and get it" :)
If you say so. That would sound about right. Same time frame. Same style of music although Utopia had a bit more quirkier sound.

From http://www.apex.net.au/~bill/batoutof.html
Steinman and Meatloaf pitched their album to Todd Rundgren. Fortunately Rundgren was one of the few people in the rock industry who saw some potential in the songs. Although Rundgren doubted that the music would be commercially successful he agreed to be the producer. He also played lead guitar on the album and his band Utopia were involved as session musicians.
I thought that was pretty common knowledge.

Did you also know that the female voice on "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" was Ellen Foley who played Billie the District Attorney on the first season of "Night Court"

Actually the Beach Boys covered this as early as 1964 on their "Beach Boys Concert" album. I also seem to remember their being a studio version of it on the "Spirit of America" double album that I bought back in the 70s.
So you may have actually heard a Beach Boys version of it.
Man - I am a source of useless information today :)

No way? I have to go watch those now.
I do know that the voice of the girl on "The Wall" who asks Pink "Wanna take a bath?" was Toni Tenille from The Captain & Tenille.

Thats news to me. But I was fixated on Markie Post during that shows tenure. She was hott!

Personally, I can't think of my own right now. But it brings to mind some songs that many people confused for a time. The latest Tesla album had a song "Caught In A Dream" that many people said they thought was Aerosmith. Another is Accept "Balls To The Wall", many people think it's AC/DC (to the point one of my friends had only heard that Accept song and kept saying to me "So, they're a lot like AC/DC, huh?". I'd repeatedly tell him "no", and he'd ask me over and over again. Drove me nuts, so I popped on Fast As A Shark, and he never asked again!!!!). Old Krokus used to be confused for AC/DC as well. Oh, I have one of mine. That song "Black Velvet" from Alannah Myles....I thought for a long thime that was Pat Benatar.

I always loved the begining of "Fast As A Shark" with that record of the German polka band and the girl singers going "Hi Dee.... Hi Doh..... Hi Da.....Hi Dee.... Hi Doh..... Hi Da.....Hi Dee.....Hi Doh.....Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha" and then Udo F***in' Dirkschneider scratching it loudly and screaming "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Pretty klever kraut der!

First time I heard PLUSH by Stone Temple Pilots I thought when did Pearl Jam put out a new song as they sounded just like them.

I had the Farrah poster too......and 1 of Cheryl Tiegs. Same age prolly.
Markie was cute but I always had the hots for Samantha Fox and had her poster. Now I heard she swings the other way......go figure.
