Good points malja. I'd give it somewhere between a 3 and 4 myself. To preface, I've been a HUGE fan of Queensryche from Queen of the Ryche up to Empire. I also agree that the albums AFTER EMPIRE had a few good songs but nothing too brilliant.
One of my fave ALLTIME albums is the Original Mindcrime, after purchasing it on it's realease date I have honestly listened to it AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK since then, it never leaves my CD shuffler. The story line is awesome and easy to follow.
On Mindcrime II , agreed Malja, not the guitar play of Wilton/DeGarmo. Now, Mike Stone is impressive but "a little different" than DeGarmo, "a little more Wah Wah" effects....ok the story line starts somewhat easy. Nicki is released from prison, trying to assimilate into society, wants/needs!!! to kill Dr X, still is missing "Sister Mary" and regrets how he killed her... Standing out for me is the song "Signs Say Go", its like a song when you're determined to do something, nothing will hold you back, very inspirational!!! Nikki is determined to kill Dr X no matter what the cost. ....
Also, The Chase Dr X's line "While You've Spent 18 years watching TV, I've watched my fortune grow" almost daring Nicki, "Come and get me, convict"!
and the classic back and forth dualing vocals (opera like!) of DeGarmo and Dio.
But the the rest of the CD puzzles the sh*t out of me.
Does Nikki ? :
kill Dr X??? :confused: Overdose on heroin and die?
See of vision of Sister Mary while in a drug induced stupor?
Actually die and become reunited with her?
OR is everything just an insane illusion?
Will there now be an OMC III ????

With 5 stars being reserved for classic status and 1 star being garbage, I would say, after listening to the new QR album for the 1st time, I will say 3 and 1/2 stars...I think it falls short of 4 stars because there are maybe 2 slow songs I do not like all that much, while I did like the other or others...all of the more rocking songs were very good to excellent....I do not have a track that stand out to me as being a favorite as of yet, but my god, Ronnie James Dio and Geoff Tate on "The Chase" is awesome!!!
I feel this is HANDS DOWN the best album since Empire, but is not as good as their 80's material. I thought all of QR's albums in the 1980's are 4 and 5 stars so this new album is not as good as those...but this new album has restored by faith in this band after hearing the last 3 studio records which I did not like at all......
Lacking on this album BIGTIME is the dual guitar solos of Degarmo/Wilton who made Operation Mindcrime a 5 star album, imo. I feel the dual solos of Mike Wilson (?) and Wilton are decent, but they do not compare to the magic years of the Degarmo/Wilton era of the band....but dont let this deter you from buying MC 2, its still a decent album anyway.....
I am not disappointed at all with this album, I expected it to meet my expectations of being a decent album and it definitely met that for sure...if you like QR and dont have this yet, its worth your time and money...but dont expect the greatness of the 80's....
