Led Zeppelin were named winners of the Polar Music Prize.
The award, presented by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, is seen as music‘s equivalent of the Nobel Prize. The academy said Led Zeppelin were “one of the great pioneers of rock”. The Polar Prize was founded by Stig Anderson, the former manager of Swedish pop group Abba. The prize will be awarded by Sweden‘s King Carl XVI Gustaf at a ceremony on 22 May 2006
