I am trying to put up my Christmas tree right now, but my heart just isn't in it this year. I've had my share of real trees. For the last 11 years I've had an artificial tree. I just replaced it with a new one this year. I downsized as the tree I had was huge! I do have a big house, but I decided to buy a smaller artificial tree this year. I do miss the smell of pine in the house.
Maybe I'll just by a can of spray!

I thought this was a thread about boobies :( .

Since I'm here I may as well opine. We've had the artifical tree for as long as I can remember. When I was a wee lad there were a couple of years where there was a real tree. But they are a pain to clean up after.

The smell is the only thing I miss, too. Do what we do. Get one or two of those car fresheners and hang 'em in the middle somewhere. Hey, if yer gonna be weird, ya gotta be original!

Well, I TRIED to put up my new tree last night. It was one of those pre-lit trees. I have never purchased one of these before, but I threw out all my lights last year as they were as old as the hills and I decided I would buy all new this year. Needless to say, as is my luck with EVERYTHING I do, there was one strand of lights that did not work. I tried everything to figure out what the problem was. I came to the conclusion that the tree was defective. I brought it back and with a little skepticism, exchanged it for the same style tree. It's up now and looks beautiful, but I didn't have time to decorate it. This is all putting me behind schedule!!!!

What area code would that be? And would a good time be involved?

When I was growing up we only had artifical trees. Apparently long before I was born, there was a small house fire in my house due to a defective light strand which caused the real tree to catch fire.

Then after I got married for the first time, the ex and I always got a real tree and then StiX and I always got a live tree! Then last year, we decided to get an artifical tree. I was VERY reluctant - the trees they had when I was growing up were nothing short of horrible! Much to my surprise, the artifical tress have come a long way and they are actually quite nice. We bought ours in Target last year - not pre-lit, I still want to keep some tradition - and I have to say it's much more conveinent expecially for most of us who have such busy lifestyles!

I do miss the smell of the real tree, but here's a trick someone told me.....

When you pack the artifical tree, buy a bunch of the Yankee Candle potpourri burners in Christmas Wreath scent and pack them with your tree and when you open the tree next year, it makes it smell like a real tree! It really does work for the most part.

Happy Holidays!

I grew up with an artificial tree all my life I swore when I had my own house I would only would buy a real tree. Well I have kept that promise to myself and it has become a tradition eaxch year for my son and husband to go out and pick out the tree. I do agree it is a mess but I buy those huge tree bags and its not so bad anymore. So real it is...

one year after Christmas, to prove a point, my dad lit a live Christmas tree branch on fire in our yard, after I saw that, I WOULD NEVER have a real tree again. It went up like flash paper! But then again, I am psycho saftey!!!

p.s. if this was about boobies, artifical would have to win

i always grew up with an artifical tree, ever since my hubby and i have
been together its been real - i almost talked him into a fake one this year
but we are going to cathedral out our ceilings in the dining room and living room so his logic was why buy one now, b/c in the next year we will have
cathedral and will be buying a fake 10-12 ft tree - made sense
in any event a real tree is a real fire hazard but a fake one could be just as much if the lights your using are old.

l2 i was on the fence about buying pre-lit or not fake tree,
but your story combined with the fact that i like white lights,
but if/when there are children i'd like to do color - or 2 or 3 different colors,
i will not buy pre-lit - thanks !

I like my trees like my boobs. Real, please. Nothing wrong with fake (for either one), especially if they're done right (again, for either one), but if I get to choose....real every time. ;)

I wonder if that should be a new poll, or if it would even be allowed. I'll just keep it here. But, as far as "bush" goes, I'm all for neatly trimmed or shaved. No au naturale or Hitler 'stache. :D

Heh, never heard it called a "bacon strip" before. That's a new one on me. Well, depends what's considered a strip. If it looks like a piece of electrical tape running down there, I'd say no to that. I don't like the thin pencil line looking thing either. At that point it's useless, go all the way and take it all off. Shaping is ok, but I think it should be just a cleaned up version of it's natural triangular shape. Or if you want to be fun, make it into a heart, or Christmas tree for the holidays, shamrock for St. Patty's day. That's cool too.
