Just got the new TNT "All the Way to the Sun".
This is just my first gut reaction, so it may change after a few more listens.
This is a really good CD. It isn't knocking me over like "My Religion" did the first time I heard it. Although that may be tough to do.
Even after all this time, "My Religion" may very well be my favorite CD of any CD, album, or cassette that I have. It is definitely in my top 5 of all time.......yes, it's THAT good!
That being said, there are no "bad" songs on "All the Way to the Sun". Tony has great vocals as usual along with the typical great harmonies. Not quite as much guitar as I'd like, but still plenty to enjoy. I'm just a HUGE fan on Ronnie's playing. It has plenty of great "Tekro Riffs".
The songs are very good, but like I said, just not blowing me away like the last CD.
Highlights of the CD for me so far.
Ronnie using a voice box in "Save Your Love".
The song "Driving" is just simply a kick-ass song. Just great upbeat song. It should be released on the radio. I think it would do well.
"All the Way to the Sun" is another great one as is "Ready to Fly".
Most of the songs are just great mid-tempo songs. Nothing really too heavy. The opening song called "A Fix" is as close to speed as they get. Not one of my faves, but still worthy. "Sometimes" could be considered the ballad of the CD, although it's not really that slow. It is a GREAT song.
They also do a very nice job remaking the classic "What a Wonderful World".
"Mastic Pines" is a slow guitar piece. Probably not for everyone, but I like it because Ronnie does it. Simply put.
I wouldn't put this up there with "My Religion", but it's DEFINITELY worth a purchase. I understand that it is, or will soon be, available on ITunes.
Just so you get an idea of my tastes......
My personal ranking of the TNT releases?
1 - My Religion
2 - Intuition
(3,4,5 can all be interchangeable. I like them all about the same)
3 - Knights of the New Thunder
4 - Tell No Tales
5 - Realized Fantasies
6 - Transistor
7 - Firefly
I would rank this CD up in the 3,4,5 range.
Again, this is just off first hearing. I'll update my thoughts if they change after several more listens.
I'm just glad TNT is still putting out great music after all these years!
Just my 3 cents. :D
