View Full Version : *Bad News* StiX and I had our house robbed

Well, I'm one of those people who always thought it'll never happen to me. Boy was I wrong. VERY wrong.
I came home Thursday around 7PM after running errands after to work to find that our house was robbed. They closed my dog off in the kitchen (thankfully he wasn't harmed) and then ransacked our bedroom, StiX's office really bad and found some stray things on the 1st floor.
They stole 98% of every single piece of sterling silver of jewelry I owned as well as all of my Tiffany jewelry that StiX had given me over the years, all my mom and grandmother's jewelry (they are both deceased) with the exception of 4 rings. My grandmother didn't have any real good jewelry anyway except for her engagement ring. Luckily my mom had her diamond reset in a ring which is one of the ones they left behind and they have the empty platinum setting. They stole all my watches (I'm a watch freak - especially Disney watches which I collected over the years going there so many times). And StiX got hit for portable and small electronic stuff; MP3, Mini-disk, Portable DVD, Portable hard drive, 2 notebook computers etc. In total we have lost close to $11,000 worth of stuff. And yes, it's just stuff - but for me - my mom's and grandmother's is the most devasting. I'm trying to tell myself it could have been worse and it could have, but I'm just not mentally there quite yet. I say the words..but they are just words.
StiX and I got a home alarm system yesterday, a new door since they destroyed our other won breaking in with a ***** driver and changed our banking info today.
I'm still numb and have been sick to my stomach ever since. The detectives tried to dust for prints, but they didn't get any at least in the house. They brought some things the crooks had scattered all over the floor and brought it to the lab in the hopes they may find something.
And yes, we do have insurance, but reimbursement is not nearly going to cover our loss. Have to get what we can.
Like I said, I never thought this would happen to me. It ****s and as an older friend of mine says...."Don't let the bastards get you down" and I'm sure trying to but it sure as hell is tough.

I am sorry to hear all this. It could have been worse though. Just be thankful that you weren't there. All we keep hearing about is all these home invasions and these lunatics don't care that you're home, they just come in and do what they want anyway. I am so glad you didn't come home and catch them in the act either. And yes, thank God they didn't do any harm to your dog. I've never been robbed, but my husband and his first wife were years ago and like you they had such an eerie feeling forever over knowing someone went through their things and took sentimental belongings that one can never replace. Keep your chin up!

I'm sorry CR! I know your strong and you will get through this. I know things you lost are hurtful, but these people will get whats coming to them, what comes around goes around. My prayers are for you , usually when something bad happens , something good is coming right around the corner. Thank God they didn't hurt your dog, the other things are sentimental, but they are only things and didn't hurt your pet, they spared his life . I'm praying for you and YOU WILL get through this. :(

sorry to hear about your loss. we have been robbed several times and i know how you feel. at least you werent home and werent hurt. i live in a high crime neighborhood ( not for long i pray) and robberies, muggings, stabbings, and shootings are common place. not to say that what you went through is nothing. my heart goes out to you guys. i pray they catch these guys but they probably have already sold your stuff. what a bummer. its scum like this that makes the world sour.

CR I am so very sorry that this happened to you and Jeff!!! It makes me so angry. Please let me know if I can do anything for you both. And as a firm believer in karma they will get theirs in the end . Try to take care of yourselves and as I am in the insurance industry plesae let me know if you have any questions etc..
That ****s! My house was robbed once before when I was a teen growing up in the family household.
Another time some fifteen years later the neighbors called the cops cause they seen someone crawling in through our kitchen window. Cops came and busted the guy inside our house. I wasen't around and found out 3-4 hours later when I got home.
Hope you had insurance. Can't cover sentimental things but it helps.
If I were you do this, Just keep an eye out for your stuff in local pawn shoppes over the next few months. The burglars have to fence the stuff one way or another. If you find something contact the police and I'm sure you'll be able to get back if it matches the description of stuff you put in police report. If your lucky the shoppe dealer might be able to give a description of the person who pawned it off to him.

CR,
I know how you feel. When i was a freshmen in college, my parents home got robbed. We were able to replace the computer, TV.s and tools, etc, they took, but they stole a WWI Russian rifle that belonged to my Dad's father, that passed when my dad was only 7.
Some things are not replacable. What is worse for me, to this day, is that The ONLY thin missing from my room, was one of my Trolls. They did not touch my bass, mics, or brand new amps. They did not touch the cash sitting on my little brother's dresser, either. My brother and I took that as a "signature" that it was someone that knew us, mainly me, which gives me a stomach ache to this day, ten years later. I am so glad you have your Mom's diamonds. beleive it or not, the police will probably catch the offenders. When unique items show up in pawn shops, often the items are traced to their origin. that is the good part.
Adam and I have an alarm system, and everyone, no matter where they live should have one.
Sorry about what you guys went through, but i thank God you were out, and not in the home.
However, just remember, they watched you to see you leave the house. I would bet my last buck on that. My parents home was only emtpy of people for a whopping 45 minutes, our routines were set in stone, and the perpatrators had to have known that.
Just be careful, and remember, you will recover from this.

Honestly, the whole thought of it makes me so sick to my stomach that I have no comment.
Just so sorry that it had to happen to two great people that are friends.
SO undeserving!

This ****s! And makes me so mad! Personal story....my grandmother passed away almost ten years ago...her beautiful jewerly was passed on to my mother and my aunt. My aunt's house was robbed a couple of years ago and yes...my grandmother's jewerly was stolen. I cried for days. There are many pictures we have of my grandmother wearing her pearls, her aquamarine pendent and rings. Now...that is all we have. They did catch the SOB's...one of the A**HOLES was wearing one of my grandmother's rings when they caught him. :) Glad to hear you are safe. Keep ya in my prayers.

Thank you ALL so much. I'm getting a little better each day but I'm still very jumpy.
I'm hoping they catch the A$$holes too. I'm hoping that some of "unique" stuff will show up in some local pawn shop and trace it back to the seller - how cool would that be.
If I ever find out who did this...I would be one of those crazy people you see on Court TV who go after the perp!
I will feel more at ease when our alarm system is put in - which will be 12/11 or earlier.
I know that they were watching me to get my schedule down and that creeps me out most of all. The cops think we won't have a repeaat performance. If we were rich and lived back country, there is a higher possibility since they could go out the next day and replace everything in one shot. It'll be a few yrs for us to replace everything especially my jewelry and of course, I can't replace all of it.
Again, please know who much StiX and I appreciate all of you as our friends and extended family and for all your prayers.

Yes, we certainly all have been thinking of you both. I wish there was something we could do to help. This one of those horrible experiences that we all hope never happens to us. Just know we are all with you.

Gina- I'm curious...what kind of dog do you have? Ususally a dog is a big deterrent to would be robbers. It makes me wonder if maybe the slime that did this is someone who knows that your dog would be harmless.

I have a Scottish Terrier. He's always been a lover and not a fighter. I think if he was a nasty and bigger dog, they would have harmed him.
Plus he's an old man - he's 11 yrs. old!

Awww, the poor little thing. I'm glad that none of you were hurt. Maybe you should get him a friend, say a doberman, rottweiller or pit bull?
I was freaking out during the rash of robberies here on LI. I don't have a dog or alarm system, and my husband works nights. My bedroom is on the 2nd floor so I put my old baby monitor on the first floor so I'd be able to hear anybody downstairs. It really makes you paranoid. I can't imagine what you guys must be feeling.

All I can say is it's like no other feeling I have ever felt.
You know - you're home is suppossed to be the safest place and now I just feel so invaded. BUT, I'm not going to let them push me out of my home.
And like I said, if I ever find out who did this? All I can say is...God help them!
Need to get yourself a puggs like me. Friendly, Lovable when he needs to be. He'll rip the shit out of a robbers ass. Believe that and I'll tell you another. He'll try but a robber could just punt him like a football.

Got a phone call from a dectective last week and trying to make an appt with him so I can look at an "array of pics" (as he put it) regarding my robbery on 11/17.
It's got to be of jewelry they may think matches the descriptions of my things because I wasn't home so I can't identify any perps thru mug shots.
I'm really hoping that this will turn out to be good news.

I certainly will keep you all posted. Tried the detective again today, but he's still not in. Wonder if he's off until after the holidays. Well, as anxious as I am, I have a gut feeling it will be worth the wait.
Then the stuff remains as evidence until a trial!

Whatever they took from you, they will lose threefold that in their miserable lifetime (if not more). Count on that. Even if you have nothing to do with their "payback" - they will get payback one way or another. That's just the way karma works. I truly believe that. Good luck CR!

Ok, here's the latest. I spoke witht he Det. yesterday (he was indeed on vacation) and I said to him I hope you have some good news for me and he said I don't, but I need you to come and take a look at some photos. So, StiX and I are going on 1/2.
I can't figure out why he said what he said because if the pics are some of my proprty, that would be good news. Maybe he just didn't want to get my hopes up.
We'll see. I'll keep everyone posted!

Hey Gina,
Sorry to hear what happened. I know how you feel, I was robbed a few times. Worst was when my coin collection from my grandma was stolen. She used to show them to me when I was little and told me they would be mine when I grew up. I got them after she died. She got them from my great grandma so they were in the family a long time. I was crushed. Some things you just can't replace. I knew who did it but couldn't prove it, but he's dead now so he got his. They'll get theirs too.

Well, I never got a phone call from the Dect. yesterday. Perhaps he had the day off and didn't realize it when we spoke initially.
I'll see how the week goes and if I don't hear from him by Fri, I'll give a call and see what we can do!

The latest....I heard from the Dect. yesterday and he will be coming to my house on Sat so that we can go thru all of the photos.
I'm hoping there is a light in this dark tunnel I've been in!
