I have a great non smoking remedy.

My husband has 2 kids, and a third not of his own, but might as well be, with profound allergies. 2 are in the process of being placed in the home with Daddy.

The mothers smoke in their faces, regularly.

Daddy and i are smokers, but do not smoke in the house, and do not get lazy when the children are not here, as to get smoke residue in the curtains, and furniture.

Really helps one to cut down, and not smoke at all when you put the kids first. :D

I got adult asthma from smoking and quit cold turkey about 16 yrs ago. And I AM one of those pain in the ass reformed smokers who can't stand smoke. I choke when it's near me!

I agree w/ you on that ChinaRain - I HATE the smell of smoke. Never realized how bad it was when I was a smoker though. This coming up Thanksgiving will be my 10 year quitting smoking anniversary - (I never smoked around my son b4 that) - I used the patch (when it was still prescription!) - I wore it for about 2 wks. till I ran out of spots to put it (you werent supposed to put it in the same spot for like 10 days or something like that, I don't know if its the same anymore) so, I took it off and went completely cold turkey after that. One of my greatest accomplishments to date - I still dream about smoking though - its really weird, (since I haven't had even a drag of a cigarette in almost 10 yrs. now) - I can't see myself ever going back to it. I think what they say is true, you have to really want to quit if you're going to quit for good - It doesn't matter what you use or do as a crutch to get over those first few weeks. :) More power to anyone with the strength to do it!!!

Well, I used to bitch about reformed smokers. But now that I have days where i go up to 10 hours without a smoke, guess what... your lungs begin to heal immedialty after about 8 hours of no smokeing (thus the coughing for some folks in the am after getting up in the moring and no cigs while you rest)

Not to mention... DAMN.... after a few hours of not smoking, the scent of an ashtray, or residue IS apparent to the nose.... GROSS.

I think most human bodies are repulsed, naturally to smoke, and those that quit, allow their bodies to heal, and "remember" this repulsion that is supressed by our senses when we are smoking.

I love my cigarettes, but not as much as my health or the kids.... cutting down on a schedule is working for me, as I was told with my Mitral valve prolapse, the patch or nicotine replacements are a danger more so to me than just fricken quitting.

So I bet people that had no issue or apparent allergic reaction to smoking while they were smoking, but after quitting, noticed a serious irritaiton in the presence of smoke... are not being hypochondriacs or reacting to a psychosematic manifestation coming from the brain, alone.... I bet most people ARE allergic to smoke.

I was in a resturant, not to many years ago before Ohio made smoking and non smoking areas.... A woman with a child about 4 years old were sitting adjacent to me and a boyfriend. I was smoking. The little boy politely got my attention, and said "Ma'am, would you mind putting out your cigarette? It bothers me." The mother immediately apologized, and told the little boy he was being rude. I interupted her, and said, No, that is OK. He has the right to not breathe in my second hand smoke. I will put the cigarette out, ans I apologized to the little boy.

Hey, to me, I feel that if you are asked to put a cigarette out, you should, and you shuold always ask...

"Mind if I smoke?" and non-smokers that do mind, should answer yes without the worry of wether or not they are being rude. :)

That's actually how I developed asthma - I was allergic to smoke and my doc said if I didn't stop I'd have emphysema by the time I was 30 - I was 22 at the time.

I don't know if he was just using scare tactics, but I really didn't want to take the chance and find out. It wasn't worth possibly risking my health over. I have no regrets about quitting - none!
