Carl & I have been happily engaged for 1 month & 1 day & we can't wait to be "official." It's very exciting when you have finally found the right person to spend the rest of your life with. He is my absolute best friend & soulmate!

Congratulations again!

So how did he propose? There was no surprise for me. We picked up the ring together, so I knew my husband was carrying it around with him all day. He basically tossed it to me after we watched a Mets game together. We had talked about actually having him propose to me at a game. They put you up on the diamond vision screen for the whole stadium to see. Then he wanted me to say no ,throw it at him & storm out of my seat!! Too bad we never did it.

I've been engaged 3 times, married twice and I have never been proposed to,(marriage that is), nor have I gone on a honeymoon! I do have a VERY nice collection of diamond engagement rings though!

seems like you got it - many people say theres really no big
change after you marry (especially if you lived together first)
but thats just wrong, and i feel bad for those people, yes -
a lot stays the same, yet you can't put into words
what changes and how you have a whole new dimension
(a wonderful new dimension) to your relationship - its
wonderful!
all the best to you both!

we haven't set a date yet. but maybe summer 2006. just a small wedding

i'm all about the small wedding, actually i wanted just
parents siblings/spouses of siblings and nieces and nephews!
(about 20 people total)
hubby had to have 200 invited guests - lynn 'el tell ya
im not bride material and hate being the center of attention !
HATE IT!
but it was a big deal for him, so it became one for me (i just
grinned (and bitched) and bared it!)
turns out - after that day i was real glad we did it that way.
i'm so not a girly girl - yet i think every woman should try it
(at least once!) it was fun having everyone you come in
contact with kiss your ass - no matter what-
(and what woman doesnt deserve that?)
its the only day you can say the earth is a square and everyone will agree!
ahhhhh-haaaaaaaa!

congrats again to you both - its all about you guys!
enjoy it!

Funny, I look at it like 3 strikes and you're out! As for the diamonds......one of them,(a near perfect 1 carat solitaire), I lost. DON'T want to talk about that. (The rest of my jewelry is now insured). 2 others ,(one was my mom's), I made in to pendants to give to my daughters when the turn Sweet 16. And the other is from my soon to be ex-husband. It is a beautiful pear shaped stone about 1.25 points and that will become a pendant soon too. You should never "cash in" jewelry. You will never get what it's worth.
Always hand it down to someone else!

That's not always true! My jeweler gave me a really great price on my diamond when I got divorced! So much so that I went on vacation! He also gave my mom a really great deal on hers too! And unless you have children, handing it down to someone else just wouldn't have the same sentimental meaning in which case I say cash it in!

I proposed on my knees in the same Bar/Restaurant we had our first date. Heck, we got several rounds of free drinks from the bartender and servers.

My wife knew something was up. Because they have a billboard they post daily near the highway. I had them post 'Congradulations Tracy and Mark' on it so she knew something was up before it happened.

We had like a 100+ people wedding and went to Mandalay Bay in Vegas for a week for our honeymoon. Actually all the combined money gifts we got paid for our out of pocket cost for the wedding and reception. But the wedding and reception itself was enough of a pleasant gift. There were also other gifts that weren't cash too.

I agree with L2S on this.
Bottom line is, like a car dealer a jewler is out to make money. If no money could be made why be in the business? I can attest to this because my wifes uncle is a jeweler.
A good scale is this, cash it in and expect to get no more then about 1/5 of what you paid for it.

your right about that, (never getting your full worth in $$$$$),
its a great idea to give it to your girls,
but you didnt pay for it so it wouldnt be a total loss...............
i'm just not a jewlery gal - i've got a perfect
2 carat ring and i think its a waste of money,
its beautiful but............. i dont know - a waste!
if it was ever lost or stolen i would be devestated,
because of the sentimental value - it could be a bubble gum
machine ring and it would mean just as much ya know?
i've already toyed with the idea of selling it and say buying a boat
for hubby and i (lynn thinks i'm nuts) and the only thing holding me back
is the sentiment - i know down the road i'd probably miss it !

there was no real suprize, i saw the setting and the diamond but not put to gether, we all had planned to go out to dinner for ian's mom's b day and ian invited my parents, cause i wanted my parents to be there, so i knew it was going to happen , when he did it, it felt as suprizing as if i didn't know and when i open my ring it was so beautiful, i got all teary and so did his parents and my parents ,and then we got drunk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess it depends on the jeweler?? My jeweler is a family friend for over 25 yrs. and I know I certainly got more than 1/5 of what my ex-hubby paid. I was with him when he bought the ring!

And who cares how much $ you get, if you have no one to pass down to, I'd rather cash it in and get what I can rather than have it go thru some estate sale or whatever.

Looking to redo our vows for our 20th. Since Disney is where we had our honeymoon back in 90, it seems that we will be having a 2 week vacation this time.....one week at Disney....the second on the Disney Cruise ship.

We haven't set a date yet, but it will be 2010, probably around May or June.

I wonder if I could talk to Randy about going..hmmmm.

Your ring is beautiful, but the picture shows it on the wrong hand.

i have to wear it on my right hand because, when i was 7 had an accident with my left ring finger and pinky finger, and when i went to go get them fixed ,the doctor f-ed them up and i almost lost them , so now they are really ugly and disfigured so i want my ring to look good on the normal hand and not the bad one,
