April has decided she needs to make a new home studio. OK. it is not workable for her to work a normal job with the recording and band where they are. plus when she is not out of town she is a full time step mom.

so what does she do? she gets a parttime job working construction.

i watched tearfully as she loaded my spare set of power-tools, hammer, wrecking bars into her car. last job she was running the chainsaw all day! can you imagine?

i know she can handle it, but... but... YOU ARE A GIRL, I tell her.

ha ha.

I am proud of my wife.

April here..

Sorry about the confusion. I use my husbands log on. I try to sign my posts...

BTW, thanks hubby,

It is finishing work. Not like I am leveling concrete or framing in new walls.. even though I know how.

My mom and dad were not the richest of folks, and we bought a house in Lorain County when I was 11. We got the place at a reasonable price off my Grand dad, and it needed an overhaul! See, I hit a growth spurt at 11 I was the size I am now. and even funnier lookin.

I was 3 inches taller than my mother, and probably heavier. So, I got put to work. My mother and I sided the house, hung a lot of the drywall. My dad showed me how to do heat ducts, and electrical... so when I found out I could make sone dough patching and replacing drywall, painting, cutting up brush and trees, sanding floors, fixing tile, removing wall paper, tearing up old flooring and carpet tack.... I though... what a breeze.

I cannot take on full time work with the music, and my step son. (thank God he is old enough to travel with April) SO this was perfect. I am tired of office exec jobs, sales, admin work, suits, panty hose, pumps... Over it.

I get to put on a doo rag, old clothes, swear, sweatmk excersize for the upcomeing shows, and stand back and admire my work.

See, the company is run by a friend of my aunts that used to so construction. She is unable due to physical complications to perform the labor. However, a saleswoman and forman, she is! A lovely lady in her 50's named Grace.

She is in the business of rehabing and refurbishing homes for the elderly that wish to sell their properties at top market value, but have been unable to maintain the property to sell at the best retuen on their investment. Most of these folks bought their homes over 40 years ago, nice houses. Their children have moved away, and spouses not able to do the work.

The lady's house we are working on is a gorgous five bedroom colonial, full of her memories, and some. She is a retired nurse, and works parttime at Micky D's. She is not been able to keep the house upgraded, as she is alone. She is preparing to move to AZ with her children, and would like to get the most for her home sale, here in OH.

Unfortunately, she tried doing this on her own, and has been ripped off by contractors, and actually had items stolen from her home.

Grace is a sweet woman, and came to the rescue.

I am doing the work. And I love it. Plus talking with the old lady between rehearsing and recording is sure refreshing.

That is what I am doing. SOme of my time, and materials are donated. I have refused monies to compensate for the tools, and materials I provide for the job. Only for my labor.

Well Adam, don't piss her off.

HA HA HA ... I scared the shit out of him, the other day.

remember the story about me buying the chainsaw for my mom on Mother's day?

Well for my first day on the job, I went to my mom's to borrow it. My step Monkey went to work with me and our first job was to clear the back yard of Brush and tree limbs. I needed the chainsaw. Long Story SHort.

My mom let me keep it for a couple weeks, as I need to clear some stuff out of my yard.

last week, Wed, I was mad at Adam, who knows why... i was flamed that is all I remember.

He was in the kitchen doing whatever, and he hears me start up the chain saw and go at my HUGE lilac bush that is getting into my cable wires and blocking the walk way to my deck. He comes running out of the house arms a flailing in the air.... "HONEY!!!!! PUT DOWN THE CHAIN SAW..HEY!!!! HEY!!!"

He knew better than to get close to me as I wacked away all the bothersome long branches.

I stopped to go get a drink, and he says to me... "April, I don;t want to see you running the chainsaw" I told him, "thank you for Sharing, this work needs done"

SO needless to say, he grabbed his ladder and cleared tha back yard for me.

See, girls.... go grab their tools and start the job with them at home. All of a sudden, it becomes important to get what the wife wants done... DONE... LOL :p

Your hired! :)
I too can do some handy work such as you mentioned. Was never shown. So alot of times I **** it up the first time and learn by mistake. Then it ends up costing as much as if you just had a contractor come in and do it for you. But its a good lesson learned.

Automotives? I learned by watching brothers and working at a gas station while going to college. My oldest brother broke down his 1971 Harley sportster to nothing, spread pieces all over the garage, got pieces rechromed and such, then rebuilt w/o even looking at a manual for anything other then torqueing specs. Amazing!

No. However... when you complete a project they were supposed to do.... the guilt factor comes in nicely, and you don;t even have to bring it up again... LOL

Just kidding. My hubby is a perfectionist. When I can get him to actually start a job, he takes his time and does it to the books to a tee. He just needs to be prompted by my running a power tool.. he takes it away from me as he feels there is a better way, boom he is tricked into doing the job! :p
