I've seen them a few times but I wouldn't go so far as saying I was a "fan".
Only Meat Puppets song I recall hearing is 'Backwater'. Didn't really like that tune enough to warrant buying their CD.
How does that song rate amongst others they play?

actually i hate to say it but i dont care for backwater either,
its really the only song that got any radioplay which is a shame
because they have got a plether of much better music!
in my book it rates horribly compared to alot of their other tunes,
they have got some heavy punk (earlier days)
and some really good songs thereafter i have got like 8 of thier albums/cds whatever and i can never decide which is best but "too high to die"
is a real good one to reccommend.

I saw them at "Zephyr Fest", "CPR Fest", and "Jazz Fest". Zephyr and CPR were local radio stations of the day who put on 2 and 3 day concerts.
I'll have to go listen to some MP3 clips.

whats your opinion of Van Hagar?
Have to later. These speakers at work have wo settings. Mute and blast. Theres your usual adjustment scale but once you undo mute, its always loud.

if you try it that would be great to me even if you hate it
and with the puppets you either love them or hate them pretty much right away

The Sammy era is pretty good. Not as heavy as the real Van Halen. However, Edward does have some great guitar moments in the post-Roth recordings.
As far as comparing the two, I'll put it to you this way:
I went to the Woodlands, TX to see the "Sam & Dave" tour. DLR came on first. I was glued to my seat for the entire show. After Roth left and Sammy came on, I hung out by the beer stand and drank. I was content to just listen to Sammy from the beer booth.
Sammy is vocally a better singer than Roth, but Van Halen had ATTITUDE when Roth was behind the wheel.

hey, i forgot i had these samples. we used to cover "backwater", but i had to change key because that guy sang so low. I believe the sample is just the lead section (no sound card here). Also, there's a sample of "crosstown traffic", "s.a.t.o." (ozzy), and "turning japanese" (the ending)

hey pretty good!
as a novice guitar player (that guy - Curt Kirkwood) amazes me,
ever try to play coming down the mountain?
hell thats fast!
id love to hear it if you do!
p.s. i'd love to hear Randy play it, he plays the Beatles with such ease
i cant see him struggling with coming down the mountain!

I don't think there is too much that would make Randy struggle, unless it is a serious difference in playing style. He is definitely one of the best I have ever seen.

are there any depressing songs done with a banjo? I've yet to hear a depressing song on a banjo, or a steamboat organ, for that matter
ah heh heh...organ
