It says a very "subjective" point of view. Check out the honorable mentions towards the end and especially the "Top 10 Rock Songs"

Nirvana and Outcast?!!!?!!?!?!?!! BWAAHHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Another problem with music today.....lumping different styles into categories they have nothing to do with. IE - Respect is a SOUL song, not a ROCK song!

Also....Outkast a "rock band"? GIVE ME A BREAK. I know....lets make a crap category and see what'll go there. Any takers?

yes subjective indeed - whose going to argue the Beatles?
but your dig on Nirvana?
you cant deny that David Grohl (of Nirvana)
is one of the best drummers we've seen in this lifetime!

Sorry sis...by your avatar, I see that you are a fan.

However, we do agree on one thing. Dave Grohl is, without a doubt, the best thing to come out of Nirvana. Foo Fighters rock!!!!

BEING A DRUMMER MYSELF, I DON'T THINK DAVE GROHL IS ONE OF THE BEST DRUMMERS IN ANY LIFETIME!!! THE BEST DRUMMER "IN MY OPINION" IS MIKE PROTNOY FROM DREAM THEATER (NEW CD SOON AS PER MIKE ON THE EDDIE TRUNK SHOW THIS WEEKEND- BONEYARD (XM)___ WE SHOULD DO A TOP 10 DRUMMERS POLL... THERE PROBABLY IS ONE AND I DIDN'T SEE IT
DON'T GET ME WRONG SIS... DAVE GROHL IS AN ALL AROUND GREAT MUSICIAN!!! BUT TO LABEL HIM "ONE OF THE BEST DRUMMERS YOU'VE SEEN IN THIS LIFETIME" JUST TELLS ME YOU HAVEN'T SEEN MANY GREAT DRUMMERS!!!

hey freak i havent heard you, so maybe if i did i'd change my vote.
so taking into account that your a drummer (and therefore know more about
drumming than me) were just gonna have to agree to disagree on this one.
im a leo, therefore stubborn and headstrong,
Dave is my fave! (and definitley the drummer i'd want for my band!),
im glad you recognize his ability as a musician/songwriter in general,
never heard anything Dream Theater but i might
check them out and get back to you! :)
peace!

I think Dave Grohl is a decent player but you cannot compare Dave Grohl to Mike Portnoy as this is 2 completely different styles of music....I am not into Nirvana at all and maybe a couple of Foo Fighters' tracks, but for the type of music Dave plays, he aint too bad. Dave is especially good on the Probot CD in which he wrote and recorded songs with numerous 80's metal stars like Lemmy and King Diamond.

The Ramones are a huge influence on Rock and Roll, maybe they are not a "top 10 band" but you cannot deny the contribution they brought to Rock history. They came out at a time when prog rock bands ruled the land and made Rock and Roll fun again. They have some really good tunes and are definitely a positive contribution to Rock. Rocket to Russia is a CLASSIC album and that is my argument why the Ramones are at least a top 15 band as far as best overall bands.

chill- im joking! haha!

316 thanks for your comments - are you familiar
with Nirvana's "Bleach" ?
its been touted as one of the best, you can get a copy real cheap!
p.s. the drummer on that one is not David Grohl but
Chad Channing. Give it a try! Please?!

This appears to be one persons choices. Not really a consensus poll.

SHOELUVRSIS
06-07-2005, 11:42 AM
yea yea
everyones list would be different for sure
it would be interesting to see how many
people would agree on the same bands
why dont you start a new thread?
i would but you guys are all heavy rockers and i'd
be laughed off the board! :(
if you start it ill put my 2 cents in!

mark
06-07-2005, 11:52 AM
Not all heavy rock. Though from that list I think alot of bands like Genesis and YES got totally dissed!
Metal is sometimes ok.
Progressive rock is where its at.
But everyone likes slow stuff sometimes.
Mix it up.

Just don't say Barry Manilow, thats all. Then you just might get laughed off the board. My ex loved him. I bought a pair of tickets for her once as a gift for her. I orginally planned to attend the show with her. Then backed out as a friend she worked with liked him just as much as her so we gave her the extra $100 ticket. Her friend was so thankful. I was like
"Oh please! Thank you so much for sparing me the misery of having to endure him in concert!"

Yes, I am very familiar with the Nirvana Bleach CD, unfortunately for me personally, I cannot get into Nirvana. I only dig one song of theirs and its "Come as you are" but other than that, I was never a fan of them. But hey, if you like them, that's cool!

I like all kinds of Rock,Metal, Punk, Hardcore, but for some reason, I cannot get into bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, NIN and most of the "alternative" rock bands over the last 15 years. But I know there are a few fans on this board of this type of music and that's fine...

glad your accepting of me warts and all ! haha
pearl jam sux! (sorry fans)
so sorry to hear you just dont dig Nirvana but to each his own,
ill still rock to them!
i guess you dont like The Vines either, i'm not sure what
"alternative" is actually - i like all kinds of music too - i like it or i
dont, the only thing i like to label some music as is "devil music"
but its all in jest! ah-haa
someone once said music is a gift from the Gods and its a wonderful
thing we all enjoy - people who dont like particular music/bands
(my husband) annoy me!!!!!!!!!!!!

peace!

I like Nirvana.
I listened to them when they first came out with Nevermind.
My niece was in like 9th grade.
She says, 'Uncle Frog, what the heck you listening too?' with a displeasing look on her face.
She went back to school. I seen her a few weeks later. Listening to the Nirvana CD.
Talk about peer influence.

Barry Manilow, huh? He has done well for himself. I think that all music has it's place and everyone is free to chose what they will and wont listen to. I like just about all types of music except for Twangy Country (the "tear in my beer" type) and Rap. I'm sure that both types have their place and both appear to be hugely popular, but the place that I have in mind for them are not nice ones. :D

As far as Nirvana goes, my thinking is along the same lines as Malja. I like a few songs, but that's about it.

Of course, these are just my opinions and everybody has the right to agree or disagree accordingly. The only musical opinion that should matter is your own. Isn't America great!!!!!!

What amazes me is that no one said Dave Grohl the guitar player.........everyone just labels him for his work as drummer for Nirvana. How about adding the title somgwriter beside his name as well......

That being said....this being a top 10 thread.......if this is an informal poll.....I would have to add Lillian Axe's name for contention. The lasr 2 CD's that Stevie and the boys wrote were quite prolific.

What exactly is the criteria for this thread?

Since I started the thread I will elaborate. This was not started as a Top 10 Poll, merely to point out the strange choices of Nirvana and Outcast as top 10 ROCK bands in the article that I linked to.
