I went on what was my LAST 5th grade field trip (thank God, middle school will have no field trips requiring parents) with my daughter today. Needless to say the first obstacle was the weather. We froze our butts off, (did anyone tell God it's May?), and of course it drizzled on and off all day.
Second obstacle was the fact that when we arrived on the grounds of Lady Liberty we did not have passes to get inside. Apparently, the school neglected to arrange that for us, (so glad I pay $ 7100.00 a year in taxes, the bulk of which is for the school). Third obstacle was the fact that all the children had a questionnaire containing 40 questions about the Statue and Ellis Island, which was also on the trip itinerary. Very hard to answer the questions when you can't visit the inside. The last stop on the trip was to hold over at South Street Seaport to kill time so we wouldn't get caught in rush hour traffic on the way home.
The other strange thing that always happens to me is that no matter when I go into NYC I am always asked by someone to snap their pic with a tourist attraction. Last month I went in to see "Lion King" with the class and somehow I got ****ed into taking pictures of people with the "Naked Cowboy". Today, there were 2 people dressed up like the Statue Of Liberty down by the Ferry and again I got stuck there taking pictures of tourists. I don't really mind though. I thought I should get a bucket and start making some money!
It was a very long day from 6:30 AM until 7:30 PM.
I am happy to be home. I just love those educational field trips that cost me $200.00 in food and souvenirs!!

Ya gotta love NEW YORK!!

Yes, I should have given the quiz to him. He definitely would have known how much vodka to put in the Lady's martini torch! 2 parts vodka, 1 part vermouth and then set it on fire!

You can have it. I wasn't ready to be this miserable until the "real" summer started.

Kind of reminds me of the Zydeco music post in another thread. Most native New Orleanians don't listen to Zydeco, visit cemetaries, go on swamp tours, and go to the Quarter unless friends are in from out of town. Sometimes Jen and I will call a "Tourist Day" and go do 3 for 1 drinks in the Quarter, but that's about it.

I never been in the staue of liberty. I use to look at it everyday from the top of the World Trade Center when I worked there. Empire state building either for that matter.

Sort of Oscar Madison. Native New Yorker and never been to these places.
