Just a note for any U2 fans that are going to see them on this tour .I went to see U2 last night in Philly. Me and my friend had faraway seats, even so, it was absolutly outstanding. They did some surprises, very obscure stuff. The light show was very high tech and is something to see, which you can't benefit from when your up close. My up close seats are coming up. We even got a wave from Bono as he was driving by us for sound check. I am so lookin forward to the future shows.

How was security? Tight, loose, half/half? Hope I never have to go thru anything like that at the Crue show again!

Security was ok. People in Philly seem to be polite. I was sort of surprised no cars tried to cut in front of me as I was leaving the arena parking lot. The place was sold out, even seats behind the stage high up. I didn't see anybody acting up. I would say half half, does that help?

Just curious. Some shows you go to, they treat you like a convict.

And this is like 15-20 years ago.

They wouldn't let me, my brother and a friend into the GSAC because we had grapes.

Made us sit on the side and eat the grapes before going in.
They were lawn seats so what I did was I wrapped one grape inside our blanket. When the guy searched us again he unfolded the blanket, One grape fell out and rolled down the stairs. He looked at me like I was a smart ass. I just gave him a **** you look!

I've got one to beat that Mark. Back in the late '70's, they used to have a "Day Of Rock" here at the Superdome in New Orleans --- Bands start playing around Noon and don't finish until the next morning....and national touring acts, not local stuff. The first one we went to, they allowed outside food, etc. We get to the second one......nobody told ANYBODY they clamped down on the outside food. My friend and I had a BOX of KFC. They wanted to confiscate it(and them probably eat the damn thing!). We told them kiss my ass, we'll eat it now! Proceeded to wolf down a box of chicken before going in. I often wonder how much a ticket to something like that would cost now.....probably a few month's rent!

My first concert ever, an all day event. Like 12 of us went in a group. Peter Frampton Comes Alive tour with YES (Relayer tour) and Gary Wright Dream Weaver tour back in 1975.
105,000 people in JFK stadium in Philly. Outdoor concert. They couldn't control the crowd. For every ticket checked at the door ten people pushed through. Actually it was like a drug fest. People walking up and down Isles selling coke, heroin, acid, opium laced hash etc.
We were allowed to bring coolers and food.
But the funny part was the group of us started a food fight amongst all 105,000. lol! Guy got on the speakers and almost stopped the show and sent everyone home. The way I knew we started it was because we held a long banner up from one end to the other of the 12 of us. We had 'DO YOU FEEL LIKE I DO' written on it. People behind us starting getting pissed because we were blocking their view. Next thing I new I felt a shower. Soda cans flying over head. Then a zip lock bag hits me in the back with sandwiches and oreos in it. Then the people below us got pissed and starting firing back. Next thing we knew the whole stadium was throwing food. Everyone even starting trashing the place afterward starting the plastic bleacher seats on fire in like 25-30 seperate parts of the stadium.

Antoher time, back around 83 at a Ted Nugent/AEROSMITH concert at MSG they were lighting off fireworks (sky rockets and block busters inside the stadium. When the 5 of us went to our seats theyre were these motorcycle guy gangs sitting in them. Shit I thought! We aint chasing them out of the seats so we just settled in somewhere else. Total Chaos!

So why do we need such tight security Nowadays? In some instances it might be for our own safety. Especially with all the terrorism and stuff nowadays.

My first Stones concert(1981) - 89,500 people general admission. Tight security. No camp outs before tix went on sale, they had special ones made up for the event. In the end, the scalpers took a bath. Once on the floor, so crowded....if you fell, you don't touch bottom. The floor looked like a supermarket for dope. Anything you wanted....you could get. Some fine blonde walked up to me wanting to "party". She produced a cigarette case tin full of joints...... Jeesh....they had acid heads, grass smokers, wine, beer and alcohol drinkers. Some had water bongs......wish I would have had a camera to get some of this! To top things off, to "cool us off", they put a fire hose on us. NO GOOD, just re-energized us. Ah.....youth!

First time seeing AC/DC, had to have one eye on the stage, the other scanning the arena for imbiciles shooting bottle rockets! Good thing the lighting guys were in cages, they would have gotten nailed.

At a Nugent/Aerosmith show(didn't make this one), somebody told me some moron spat at Ted. WELL.....lets just say he was light-years ahead of body surfers, slammers, and Axl Rose with his antics. He's lucky Ted didn't kill him!

True, we need tight security. BUT....its still comical how much stuff STILL gets in.......

had a weird experience at a foreigner show a few years ago. i was in a wheelchair at the time. a girl was standing in front of me blocking my view so i gently placed my hands on her hips and tried to move her. well, she gave me a real hard time. after the show she came up to me with 2 cops and said i physically abused her! she then told me i should watch my back goin to my car as she had relatives in the mafia that were watching me. had to get a police esacort to my car.

Wasn't by chance a foriegner show with Joe Walsh opening for his CONFESSOR tour in the mid to late 80's was it? I was at that show.

Just goes to show. If you still had foot movement you probably should of just givwen her a swift kick in the ass!

Had a similar experience at a Tom Petty show. Reserved seating on the floor. 2 songs in, this "woman" decides she can't see so she stands on the seat. I looked around, she's the only a$$hole standing up. I tapped her on the back and kindly asked her to sit down. I got the reply "I can't see sh*t". I told her, "Well, look around. You're the only one standing. Besides, I didn't pay $35 to look at your a$$". Had to flag the security guy down. She gave him sh*t. She almost got thrown out.

Wow! Thats sounds like a identical experience my brother and I had at a Duran Duran show about 5 years back. This guy and his friend, the only two standing, and rejected everybodys claim to sit down. The people in the 2 rows immediately behind him got up and moved. We were like, We paid for seats in the center. Were not gonna move to the side because of these two aholes. So what did we do, crunch paper beer cups, pages to programs etc and started pelting them. Then the people behind us were getting pissed too. They started actually handing us stuff to nail them with. They were getting pelted in the back but would not even turn around to look at us. They never sat down either. We wanted to go up and beat their asses but then we would of got thrown out and probably gotten assault charges.
So meanwhile these ignorant morons spoiled the show for a bunch of us.
I can understand the alot of people standing near the front on who are on the floor, during the better tunes or encores but we were in the second section back. These guys would of had no problem seeing the show if they sat there butts down. They were just being jerk offs! So we treated em as such.

I just would have gotten up and gotten security. Unless the band keeps egging on the fans to stand up, if a few isolated morons are standing up, either sit your a$$ down or get tossed. A good way to get the guards attention.....fire up a lighter! They'll come running. Then tell them about the "disturbance".

Just letting you know. That I tried waiting for tickets for last Saturday's U2 show at Madison Square Garden that may be released at the box office the day of the show, and they released hundreds of tickets about 4:00PM. I could have gotten up to four tickets. So if I could get into that show, I'm sure I could get into any one of them, this show was the highest in demand. I got seats right behind the soundboard facing the stage. Nothing is impossible.

how much did they rip you off for those tickets?

Chara is the most die-hard U2 fan I know. I'm sure the tickets were expensive, but I'm sure to her she wouldn't consider it being ripped off. Just let her enjoy herself - it's all about rock -n- roll!

Tickets were face value, I just seen U2 in Boston in their last show in the US on the first leg yesterday. We met Edge and Bono as they went into soundcheck, i got two photos of Edge and a video on my camera phone of Bono as he waved to us.. it was Great :) It was worth it to me anyway.

Maria, I was there too! Gotta say, although the light show is way better than the Elevation tour but, Elevation 2001 was slightly more uplifting. Have you read "Bono In Conversation" yet? I'm not a reader but this book is pretty (in Bono voice) "extraordinary"! I also have every show on cd, so if there's any shows (bootlegs) you want, let me know, and I have opening night on dvd as well.

Hi, yeah I loved Elevation, I was way up front for one of those shows. I like this tour too, because I really love the new album. I also like how they did the Actung Baby block. Obviously, I'm a fan of ZOOTV. I didn't know you were there. My friend who lives in the Boston area told me she wanted so bad to go to last nights show and I just got an overnight bag together and drove down, we luckily got tickets. I'm glad I went and don't care about how much money it cost. I loved the atmosphere with the fans over there. And we had a great time partying there in the city all day yesterday. If you can get a copy of last night's show on CD , it would be great !!!
