From the David Wayne's Metal Church website

On behalf of David Wayne's Metal Church, we would like to express our deepest sorrow in the passing of our Metal Brother, David Wayne. This is not only a loss for us as a band and his family, but also millions of “Metal Heads” throughout the world. David died due to complications from injuries he sustained in a head-on automobile accident several months ago.

David Wayne was the patented scratchy vocals of several Metal Church albums and was in the process of returning to the metal scene with his new band lineup. His goal was to return to the sounds of Metal Church’s albums released in 1984 and 1986. We will always remember the burning words and vocals in “Gods of Wrath,” “Watch the Children Pray,” and “Start the Fire.” David and his current band had just completed several new songs and were ready to head to the recording studio after their European tour dates this summer.

Along with David’s family and friends, we would ask that cards, letters, and flowers be sent to the below address. Additionally, donations are being accepted to help David’s family with funeral expenses.

Wow, that really ****s. When I first saw the thread, I thought "damn, he's still pretty young, so what the hell happened, or what did he do?". That's way too bad. I wonder if he ever regained conciousness or what he went through in the last several weeks. Pain, surgeries, infections, whatever. Not a great way to go.

I always loved this band. Well, I like the band overall, but the newer stuff just doesn't compare to the first two albums. Those are classics. I couldn't believe it when I saw on Headbanger's Ball that he had quit the band. He was half of that bands' sound, at LEAST!!! I always thought he made a very bad decision on that one.

I always grab a handful of CD's every Monday to bring to work for the week to listen to. Oddly enough, this week's included the first Metal Church album.

I agree with you EVHFV, the 1st Metal Church CD is a CLASSIC. I thought The Dark could have been better if it wasnt so overproduced, but nonetheless a fine offering from the band. If you never heard it, 1989's Blessing in Disguise is a very good Metal Church CD with Mike Howe on vocals...

I tell ya, I have their latest CD "Weight of the World" and its not too shabby, if you can, you might wanna download a couple of tracks and check it out, especially if you are disappointed overall with today's metal scene. Their new singer isnt all that bad, but I do prefer Wayne and Howe for sure...

It's very sad what happen to David, he will sorely be missed...

I actually loved the production of The Dark, and thought while it was still definitely Metal Church, it made it a bit different from their first album to me...in a good way. Especially the drum sound, even though they sound a bit like an electronic kit, I think they're very punchy and driving. And the guitars are very crisp and crunchy. Ah, but that's me.

For whatever reason, as I have yet to replace all my cassettes with their respective cd, Blessing In Disguise is one I haven't replaced yet. There are many songs on there I like, but it didn't quite grab me as much. The Human Factor was better for me. Yeah, Mike Howe is a great vocalist, but like many other bands, there's nothing like the original. Maybe that's just because I'm such a creature of habit. I don't have Masterpeace or Weight Of The World yet, but they're on my "to get" list. CD's are so expensive now, I do most of my buying on eBay these days. I'll get them soon, I'm sure. Hanging In The Balance was a real good album, too. Yeah, Mike Howe is real good, but I prefered David just a bit more. To me, he's like Udo or Brian Johnson. A guy that people think only scream, but there's so much more going on there, and a whole lot of talent to back it up. Not only is it hard to sing like that for more than one song, I just like those really gritty vocals, as well as a guy that has a high-pitched wail. To me, he had a really great voice. At least he left some great music behind. We still have that!!!

Masterpeace is ok, nothing special, a few good songs and the rest are ok. If you can find it used, that might be better value wise. Weight of The World is pretty good, if you can you might wanna dwnld a couple of songs before you buy it though, just to be sure...

Oh yeah, forgot about the Human Factor! What a great CD! A Date with Poverty is a cool song!

I think the majority of MC fans would agree that they prefer David over Mike on the vocals, but I thought both of them contrbuted something real positive to the legacy of the band...so I have David slightly ahead due to the 1st record being so great!

Yes, David left behind some great music and will always be remembered by the underground fans....maybe a retrospective DVD can be put out and maybe proceeds can go to a charity or something...just so the fans can have the memory of David's time in the band while at the same time, maybe doing something positive for the less fortunate? I dont know, just a thought....I wouldnt want the band to capitalize on his death......

Don't forget Watch The Children Pray and Fake Healer.....and Beyond The Black, and the most kick-ass cover of Highway Star you'll ever hear. Oh yeah, and Ton Of Bricks.

Very sad news indeed. Too many people exit early from the Rock-N-Roll highway and a lot are from accidents like this.
