Only seen three shows so far this year to date. Shit's getting to expensive anymore. Especially when you have to purchase several tickets each time you want to see a show.

King Crimson @ The Beacon Theatre
CSNY @ Madison Square Garden
RUSH @ PNC Arts Center
Have tickets for upcoming shows at PNC:
Satriani/Kings X/Dream Theatre @ PNC Arts Center
YES @ PNC Arts Center
Plus maybe any other shows that come around.

But I have to say this year CSNY was awesome. Seen CSN w/o Neil Young about 3-4 times before including a show where David Crosby was so coked up there was like a 10-15 minute intermission in the show cause he started busting up laughing holdinmg his chubby belly like santra Claus and he coulden't stop. At least I think he was coked up anyway.
Maybe on Mescauline or something.
But Neil Young revitalized them guys in my eyes. Brought em back to life!

Yeah, oh what's his name was playing it to loud, and I even noticed he was nailing it each time. You know how some just act like the know what they are doing, but he was hitting right on the notes. (we are talkin 4/4 time though.....hahahahaha). I'm sure if they were acting out Changes from Yes, it would be a whole new ballgame. Or better yet, the intro of Rush's YYZ.

That SNL skit was Will Ferrell playing the cowbell too loud, they were playing B.O.C. Hilarious skit, if you notice, the other cast members, Chris Kattan and Chris Parnell start laughing during the skit. Christopher Walken is one of the best guest hosts they've ever had. The last concert I went to was Pearl Jam several years ago at Mercer Arena in Seattle. I do plan on buying tickets to see Styx in October at the Emerald Queen Casino. I will try to win tickets to see Paul McCartney in concert at the Tacoma Dome that same month.

On the most part tickets for concerts have gotten too expensive for me over the past few years. So my entertainment dollars goes towards season tickets for the Seattle Seahawks and seaon package for the Seattle Mariners. I may get a Sonics ticket package this year depending on how much it will cost. Has you can tell I'm some what of a sports nut. At least when I go the the Seahawks and Mariners games I know where to park for free. Parking around Seahawks Stadium and Safeco Field begins at $25.00. Sonic games I just go ahead and pay the $10.00 to park unless that will go up this year.

Some of my friends stop going to the concerts at the Gorge an other venues due to high ticket prices and other high expenses there.

But as they say if there is a market for that price people will pay.

CINDERELLA New Orleans House Of Blues 07/24/02

Ok, I went to the Cinderella show (skipped the Axe Attack) and it was in one word: AWESOME! I was so suprised as I had never seen Cinderella live nor was I a big fan. I think they kind of got a bad rap with the first videos (those goofy chicks wanting to go to the Cinderella show & all in Shake Me) and Tom Keifer is an underestimated singer, songwriter and guitar player but after seeing them live I would say that I put Keifer right up there with Randy and even higher as far as guitar playing goes.

Cinderella sounded very tight from start to finish and everyone in the band looked like they were in great shape. I can't say enough about the show. If anyone has a chance to see Cinderella I definately suggest that you see the show. My wife couldn't go last nite because she had to work all nite and we almost drove to Jackson MS to see them tonite so she could see them too!

Also, the House of Blues was packed. You couldn't even move upstairs. This may have been due to the fact that Lillian Axe is a group with ties to New Orleans and there seemed to be many people wearing Axe shirts and caps.

Cinderella was pure rock and roll at its finest. I seriously would have to say that it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. I can't believe I am writing all of this the day after the show but I am pleasantly suprised that I am!

I also heard that Jay Bouche (some of you may remember him as one of the best metal guitarists from New Orleans, could/can play Yngwie note for note) was at the show last nite and also was very impressed even though he wasn't a big Cinderella fan before show but now he is. That makes me feel better as I know I wasn't just thinking about my youth and all of the hot chicks dressed in leather pants that were at the show didn't "cloud" my ears.

For some reason I have never really cared for the Axe. To be fair though I have only heard Dream Of A Lifetime (which seemed to much like a "chick" song when I was a Sr. in high school) and She Likes It On Top (back when it came out an WCKW played rock and that song was about as cheesy as Psychadelic Sex Reaction) so I really don't know much about Lillian Axe.

I do know that Near Life Experience band seemed like they thought they were a big deal and a shoe in to win the '97 contest to open up for Queensryche in the battle of the bands @ Kenny's Key West and they weren't too happy when they lost it out to Rigid. It's like they thought cause they had some axe Lillian Axe guy they were the best.

If they were better than Cinderella last nite then I have REALLY been missing out!

Awesome show Gregg. YES still kicks ass! And Wakeman awesome. I especially liked the anderson harp/wakeman keyboardstint at the end. But so was that CSNY concert in May.
ZEBRA comes in last place for not getting their ass over to jersey for a show!Randy told me they'd be by central jersey soon. A year ago! Guess thats on the same calender as their album release date. Don't like to bash but hey! Stop playing with our pudds!

I wasn't all that impressed by Yes this time around. It's mostly the same old stuff over and over. South Side of the Sky was nice, but aside from that the first set was downright slow. The second half picked up a little bit.

I don't see why Yes-proper can't write some good tunes these days. The ABWH album was great and their tour was amazing. I think that Brother Of Mine is the best Yes-ish tune written since the 70s.

Best concerts 2002:
(1) Rush (did you expect anything else?)
(2) Paul McCartney

Nothing else has come close.

Randy's Electric Plant was fun the other day, not so much is an "Oh My God this is f*cking amazing" sort of way, but in a "Here we are with lots of other people watching Randy & Co play some great tunes and really enjoying it" kind of way.

Cant wait till rush comes around . NO SHIT i went to see that band that was on vh1 BANDS ON THE RUN CONTEST the name of the band was called FLICKERSTICK sounds like a shitty name for a band but all the songs were great. So after the show I bought a cd I must tell you its a very good cd all the songs on the cd are well done 12 tracks in all every song grabs you . In most cases 5 out of 10 might be good on the avarge cd but this one ranks high on my list , check it out.

You couldnt pay me to sit thru the Paul McCartney show.

Everyone was so quick to pick on Mick Jagger for his latest, but everyone praises McCartney for his crapola.

Dont get me wrong, I love freedom as much as the next guy, but one little song repeating "freedom" over and over just goes to show who had the talent in the McCartney/Lennon partnership, IMO.

Best shows I saw this year were the Radiators and Dirty Dozen Bras Band. Bra-less hippie chicks and all.

banterman
08-15-2002, 06:43 PM
No kidding that the last several McCartney albums are crap. That doesn't matter. He plays like 2 songs from the new album, and 0 from the last 5 albums. The rest is classic Beatles, Wings and McCartney tunes, so I couldn' t care less how crappy his latest album is.

I was/am highly disappointed in mccartney. He is a huge influence on me. Don't knw of anyone else who has written so many great songs. Sometimes when you pump out so many tunes, it's hit and miss, but this new stuff doesn't sound like it's the same guy. The latest album i have is "flowers in the dirt", and that grew on me. I haven't heard all of the new stuff. I saw one tune on a morning show where he's playing drums on the video, and that song freedom. It's funny how a couple of honkers can make you stop buying music from the artist. He's still tops on my list, but maybe he should wait for better/genuine inspiration, or take a break, etc. He may be writing for the wrong reasons now? For musicians, it's insulting if no one wants to hear your new stuff. I mean mtv bands cannot escape their hit, and lots of times, that's all the fans know. My niece bought the goo goo dolls and thought the whole cd would be like "name". ha ha. I read in the paper that vince neil stormed off stage cuz the audience didn't sing along with his solo stuff, but just wanted to hear motley crue. He yelled at them and called them a bunch of losers, and got on the bus.

The Who and Robert Plant at Jones Beach was great and my favorite of 2002. Plant's band was not as strong on the Zeppelin covers and he did a lot more Zeppelin then I heard he was doing in prior shows with The Who. Plant's voice was in good shape - great version of Hey Hey What Can I Do.. As for The Who, excellent show, they sounded great.. Zack Starkey did a great job on the drums and their stand-in bass player was solid. Played all the classics and played for over 2 hours. Pete and Roger were great. Opened with Can't Explain instead of Substitute... Too many highlights to list here.. I still feel Plant & Page at Jones Beach two years ago was the best show at the Beach that I have ever seen, but The Who came very close to topping that.

banterman
09-07-2002, 12:34 AM
I saw the Who w/RP at Jones Beach, too, and felt that the Who were really giving it their all so as not to disappoint the fans who might have been let down by John's absence. I was having somewhat of a religious experience, remembering when I first heard a lot of the songs in my youth and thought how incredible they were and it really affected my life in a profound way and made me really want to play music.

Robert's band mostly wasn't trying to recreate Zeppelin even when they did do Zep tunes, which was wise. They were really great on the acoustic tunes, and again, it brought me back to when I first heard those songs. See Randy J. afterwards made the evening all the better, esp. with all his Zep tributes.

The only other show I saw this year that comes close was Rush, but also the new band Eyes Adrift, who I saw in a club in Boston, really kicked ass and are worth checking out!

I'm going to see NEKTAR this Friday at Town Hall in NYC. Just picked up PETER GABRIEL Tickets for November. So I can't decide yet. But so far of the shows I seen this Year (outside of Zebra and Randy shows) and the order from best to worst acts:

1. CSNY
2. Dream Theatre/Satriani/Kings X
3. YES
4. King Crimson w/Jon Paul Jones
5. RUSH

I hate to Diss RUSH but in my opinion this last tour totally ****ed! RUSH is usually totally awesome in concert but I begged to differ with this Vapor Trails tour.

Peter Gabriel show next month should be interesting after not seeing him since his last US tour almost 10 years ago. Thats US as in us, not US as in USA. The top five concerts I have ever seen, and I've been to hundreds spanning close to 30 years, Peter Gabriel owns the top spot and another show in the top 5.

Ok, here's my votes for 2002:

RJ, New Orleans Original Daquiris (beautiful night with a full moon , RJ acoustic with Veterans Blvd as a backdrop and best of all: free!)

Geoff Tate @HOB,

TOOL with Tomahawk opening @UNO Lakefront Arena

That Geoff Tate show, wow, great set. That would have to rank 1st of them all with RJ's musical perfection right behind.

And since I know Rolando, I'll refrain from joining the RIGID pokes:)

To this day I've never seen TOOL, but heard they put on a really good show. Was kind of pissed cause I love King Crimson and never miss a tour. When they were out west there last tour, they combined with TOOL to do about a dozen shows on that coast. That would have been awesome to see. I had gotten to see them after they returned to NYC and had Jon Paul Jones open up for them. JPJ was damn good in his own right, but the sets were short, about 1 hour 15 mins for each band which is why I diden't rate the concert real high in 2002. I've seen King Crimson do a lot better shows in the past. The whole concert you never seen Robert Fripps face? He sat in the dark and played his guitar and Frippertonics. Its a shame cause after the concert I had to pull out a picture of the band and say to my sweetheart, there's the guy you never saw during the entire show.
Tonite its on to see NEKTAR at Town Hall Theatre in NYC. Seen King Crimson there some 5-6 years ago and they kicked butt!

Almost like this past Friday, 10/4. My Girlfriends 11 year old son went to see NEKTAR at Town Hall Thetre in NYC and he liked em better then Rush or Dream Theatre/Satriani shows. Of course he was a alot closer to the stage this time then with the other shows, but he enjoyed the show much more. These guys originally disbanded like 15 years before he was born.
I think I'm turning him into a progressive Rocker.
