I am a HUGE Band fan and you're right - Danko was a terrific bassist! What a great, pensive voice he had too. The Band was Da Bomb and they have a great website (http://theband.hiof.no) full of bios, concert samples, reviews, etc.
I have not heard a lot of Jack Casady (it's spelled that way according to hottuna.com), but I know he was very influential in the 60's and 70's. His playing in Jefferson Airplane on Surrealistic Pillow (the only one I've actually heard all the way through) was pretty cool. Thanks for the reply!

Most people dont know that Hot Tuna wasnt just a blues band. from 74-77 they did 3 heavy rock albums even they refer to those years as the Heavy Metal Years ( americas choice , hoppokorv, yellow fever ). Which brings to mind Bassist Lemmy who started out in the band " Hawk wind " possibly the first heavy metal band in 1968 !!!!!

 Lemmy - now there's a guy with a long pedigree. I always joke with my wife when we see a Motorhead video and say "He's probably the handsomest man in Rock today!" Hawkwind was HUGE in England and they colloborated with one of my favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy authors (Michael Moor****) on an album or two. Hawkwind, Blue Cheer, & Steppenwolf were all pretty early contenders for the HM tag.

Levin is great. Not to mention he has the same hairstyle as Mark
a ha ha ha ha ha ha
Bald is Beautiful. I can cut my own hair every Saturday. Save on shampoo. When I want your head covered, I throw on a hat. Lost all my hair by the time I was 21 years old. And I don't want it back!

I'm surprised Les Claypool hasn't received a vote.
He's pretty good.
Gotta go with Stu Hamm.
Nice pick, JENNBO!
We MISS you!

What about the Bass player from Humble Pie he was actualy very solid. He was known for always holding his bass in an upright sort a way and bent strings frequently ( like a guitar bass player )

I HAD to vote for Geddy, but Metallica's new bass player - Robert Trujillo - is totally the bomb. Check him out on Infectious Grooves' Violent and Funky!!!

It's definitely John Entwistle. The only one that even comes close is Geddy Lee.
Billy Sheehan is the man. Although I was never a fan of Mr. Big, I saw him when he played in Talas and I was blown away. He plays bass like it is a lead guitar, just amazing.
