Thanks for the info Johnny. Hopefully by the spring, ALL of our FAVORITE radio personalities will be back in NYC/NJ bigger & better than ever! Eddie has put together a strong following here and hopefully that will grow in the not too distant future.

from the Eddie Trunk newsletter:
1/28/03 5PM:
Well the end of more than four years of hard rock & metal have
officially come to an end for me at WNEW. The company has just informed me that
the forthcoming format at NEW would not support a hard rock / metal
show. After 20 years in the business, I have dealt with this many times,
and understand it's a part of radio, especially in the big markets. I am
not bitter or hostile at WNEW or the new management, they have been
very honest with me, and are trying to help on some other fronts, and you
can't really ask for more.
Looking back, it has been an incredible ride and one of the best work
experiences of my life at WNEW. I was playing and interviewing the
artists I loved and grew up with. After more then four years on Saturday
nights, and almost two years on Friday's, these shows had a tremendous
impact on so many levels, and had a big influence on several areas of the
business in the NYC market. From record labels, to concert promoters,
and the artists themselves, FNR & SNR were a vital part of the NYC area
rock scene. I'm very proud of what we created together in helping bring
this type of music back to some degree. So many great things happened
because of these shows. Just a few that come to mind include reuniting
Twisted Sister after 14 years, the sold out NY Steel Benefit with more
then 4000 people, Ace Frehley's always hysterical appearences and his
performance for my birthday, and so many of our great guests. The recent
Kissmass special is still making news, and who can forget people li!
ke Jim Breuer and Chris Jerricho, who added so much and were such fans.
Above and beyond all, there is Mike Piazza, who has appeared on the
show far more than anybody, and supported it in every way. Here's a guy
that is a major celebrity, but is as true metal as you can get. From our
all night guest DJing, to our recent Christmas party together, Mike
helped bring the shows to a whole new level and respect, and for that I am
grateful. Many thanks to a true friend who really cares about this
music!
I would also like to thank some of the people who have been so
supportive over the years for making the shows possible. Since you never get to
say goodbye and thanks in radio, I wanted to acknowledge these people
now. (sorry if I forgot anybody)
Garry Wall, Andrea Karr & Scott Herman (the original management team
when I first came to WNEW in 1998. Garry put the show on the air and gave
me the opportunity)
Jeremy Coleman, Craig Schwalb, Ken Stevens (the management team of WNEW
as a talk station, who kept the show and added a second night. It was a
great creative environment to do radio)
Earl Douglas, who has always been there to help.
All the promo staff for keeping me busy off the air.
All the sales staff past & present that I worked with.
Ginny Sanchez, Chris Hafer, Matt the intern, Maritza, Scott the intern,
Spazz, Rory and everybody who helped me so much behind the scenes with
phones and contests, thanks.
All the great talent that I worked with and their crews, that were so
supportive, expecially Ron & Fez (I will miss the late night hangs),
Opie & Anthony (who can forget me and Anthony doing a New Years countdown
on the air, with a 48 second delay!), Scott Ferrall, and all the past
and present hosts that were so cool to me.
I'd also like to say a special thanks to Fingers of WBAB on LI. He has
been doing metal shows about as long as I have, and is one of the few
guys who is also in it for the love and passion of the music. Fingers
has been cool enough to reach out to me and offer support regardless of
any radio politics, a true class act!
Most of all of course, I thank YOU! The support and passion from my
listeners has been incredible. As goofy and cliche as it sounds, I really
did feel like you were extended family. Loyalty & passion is what metal
has always been about. You all have stuck by the shows through all the
changes, and I can't thank you enough.
As for the future?
Well of course I want to get back on a NYC station as soon as possible
(I actually had a huge show planned this weekend!). Obviously there are
only a couple realistic options in NYC, and it doesn't take a genius to
figure them out. I will work extremely hard to get back on and play you
all this great music as soon as possible. Your support has already been
felt and truly helps. I promise to keep you informed in this space as
developments become available. Check back often.
Also, my shows outside NYC on our affiliate stations will continue to
air in their respective times and days. Those in NYC area or anywhere,
can hear them on www.KNAC.com. The show airs every Thursday & Saturday
9A-1P Eastern.
If you won tickets to anything recently, you will still get them, or
still be on the guest lists you won for. All other promotions and
appearences are suspended for now.
I can't thank all of you enough for the great years and support. I
REALLY hope to be able to announce a new place to hear me soon in the NYC
area. Stay tuned and thanks again!
Sincerely,
Eddie Trunk

I'm mailin' Q104.3 daily to ask them when is the premier of Eddie's show. Funny thing, something I ALWAYS wanted to do, and tried once from Orphan Annie's, was to call Eddie during his show while I was @ a Zebra or Randy show. (Couldn't get through that night) Let's hope he's back on soon and Johnny and I WILL make that happen.
