I did the same thing, I bought a bunch of cd's in 2004 that were not released in 2004...but since this post is in respect to the cd's released in 2004, figure I would just put the 2004 releases that rock my car stereo (u should see the looks people give me when I am stopped at a traffic light, for once, no hip hop coming out of someone's car) and my cd player at home...

I hardly bought any 2004 cd's last year. Actually, my cd buying has gone way down in the last few years. Just not many bands that I like put out albums on a regular basis anymore (which is ok with me since they're so damned expensive these days). I don't have as much time to LISTEN to them anymore either. But I'm doing my best to listen to them and keep up with my favorite bands as best I can. I don't have the last TWO Seal albums, but I want them. Always liked his style and voice. But, for the few 2004 cd's I did buy, I liked them all. Here are the ones that I can remember at least right now.....
Dokken - Hell To Pay
TNT - My Religion
WASP - The Neon God Part 1
Tesla - Into The Now
Scorpions - Unbreakable
TSO - The Lost Christmas Eve
I want Part 2 of The Neon God.....yet another I haven't gotten around to buying yet. But, of all those, Dokken is definitely my favorite. Their best album since the 80's. Jon Leven fills the gap left by Lynch better than anyone who tried to replace him (and I love John Norum). Actually, I'm glad Lynch isn't in Dokken anymore. His playing these days does nothing for me, and he does even less for me as a person. Last I saw him with Dokken in '97, he hardly looked at or even faced the crowd. And I saw Lynch Mob in 2003, and they "Nu-Metaled" all the old Mob and Dokken hits. Worst show I ever saw, hands down. I don't think he'd be doing anything positive for Dokken now. But Hell To Pay......definitely worth getting if you haven't yet.

For me, musically, 2004 was mostly consumed by the aquisition of live and unreleased recordings of a dubious nature.
I did, however, enjoy some store-bought music as well:
Smile - Brian Wilson
American Idiot - Green Day
Me and Mr. Johnson - Eric Clapton
velvet revolver ~ contraband
duran duran ~ astronaut
U2 ~ how to dismantle an atomic bomb
rush ~ how to dismantle an atomic bomb

I'll even take the 90's
There are still some good CD's out there. Just lots more contemporary garbage to weed through nowadays.

Considering the lack of "new" music, there must be a bunch of old hippies on this board. I can't remember the last new CD I bought...outside of the Velvet Revolver one......

This is true....you just have to REALLY search for it. It's certainly not mainstream.

can't wait til their non-christmas cd comes out,, they've been working on it for a long time.
forgot to mention the new collective soul cd, 'youth', which i bought most recently! yes they are still around and they still have GREAT hooks!
hey EV, all of seal's stuff is awesome. he voice IS amazing!
i like his new cd the best though, it's got the most variety.....little of everything and then some.
i also got the new hoobastank and got bored with it pretty quick, but, some of the stuff is cool.
but seriously, try some marillion if you aren't into the mainstream crap that's out there.

Yeah, I mostly buy the latest from the bands I grew up on that are still around. There are a few other things i buy that don't fit into that category, but I can honestly say I don't or haven't bought anything from any band that's come out in the last 10 years or so. No StainD, no Creed, no Limp Bizkit, no Godsmack, or anything else that is or was huge in that time. Not that none of it has been good. I've liked a song or two from each of them. But, after a few listens on the radio, I've had enough of that song, and actually have no need for anything else from them. Nothing sticks long enough. I think Nirvana made me that way. I bought Nevermind, liked it, listened to it for a couple months at the most, got their first one, listened to it once, and got In Utero, and I don't think I've ever even listened to that one. I was done and had enough. Ever since then, all bands that came out had the same effect on me. Pearl Jam, same thing. Bought "Ten", listened once.....done.
As for TSO, I saw them in Hartford. They're always amazing. Always. Took my sister this year. She's been a country (blech) fan since forever. Something like TSO is alot for someone to process, especially a fan of music so different from that. She'd be the first to tell me if she didn't like it. She can't honestly say it. I can tell, deep down somewhere, she really liked it. She's just trying to process it all. She's talking about taking her husband next year because she thinks he'll like it (but I know something in her wants to see it again as well). Next year, I'm taking my nephew. He's asked me about them for years, and had a guitar teacher that talked to him about them. He's been unable to get someone to go with him. I told him a couple years back I'd go with him, but never planned anything with him at the time. This year, he asked again, and said he couldn't get his g/f to go with him. I said "OK, done. Next year, we're going". He's gonna flip.

You don't want me in Vegas. I drink non-stop from when I get on the plane until I leave.....If I were there with you, I might be a bad boy.......................:D
I'll be there the first weekend in November (give or take a weekend).

david, check yer pms! lol!
goin the last week of april.....i'm REALLY psyched! i'm house-sitting for a friend this week and i have comp access.....YAY! call me!
EV......i tell everyone to go see TSO, they do NOT disappoint and they have something for everyone. i was wishing i could afford to buy tix for a buncha ppl this year for the garden but i got the $60 seats and obviously could not afford it. i think i'm going to get them as christmas presents next year and get a group together. i actually spent more on tshirts and christmas ornaments at the show than the actual ticket!
and......what pisses me off about most of the new bands/singers on the scene is that they all sound alike....especially their voices. they have no staying power! but i hafta say, i became a huge linkin park fan this past year......never thought i would say that!
*blushes* :D

i WILL pass on the new album, however, with all the jay-z extra rap stuff on it.....not my style.
