Hi all!

It's that time of the year again - time to bitch at the boss for the crappy gift. Time to drink at the holiday party until you make a fool of yourself. Time to cry over the amount of cash you have to spend.

Well, to help ease the tension, over the next few weeks I am going to post (in 3 parts) some Zebra that has never been heard by anyone that was not there at the time.

Some of you know that I go to a lot of shows and leave CDs running off the board during soundchecks and other odd times. Well that's exactly what I did on October 8th. It was a long soundcheck but not with a lot of playing. I was able to salvage a bit under 10 minutes of usable stuff.

Remember that these are soundcheck songs so they will not be perfect, not are they meant to be. You will hear band members calling out to the guys behind the board and off the stage to set and reset things. However, this is how I have always loved to hear a band myself. I hope you enjoy these. I will post one per week (-ish) suring the month.

The first installment is early on in the soundcheck when nothing was set up properly yet and the board wasn't even sending stereo yet. This track was a single take, 2:32 in mono 64k mp3. You will hear that only Randy's vocal mic is working for the first 2 minutes of the song and Felix's does not come in until the end.

The other two are not up there yet so don't go hunting for them!

Thanks. I was hoping we'd get to hear that...and I'm sure it wasn't easy for Rush to create it in a file format that he despises soo much

It has some benefits though. MP3 is leading when it comes to portable use and ease. If you are looking for less compression, just listen to the original wave. To a serious audio buff, you can hear the difference between an original wav to a 128 K MP3. But to the basic listener on cheap PC speakers, your not going to hear the clarity either.

Took 5 tries just to get my finger to hit the OK button. I f***ing HATE lossy CODECs. All of my personal stuff is in flac these days and SHN for the older stuff.

Definitely, when i record my friends band and when recording at home i always record and edit in wav, then i can put it in any crappy format anybody wants!
