I want to know what will happen to the SOB who threw the water. Some of these idiots who go to games think they have carte blanche on doing whatever they want to do.

Macca I agree with you as the fans enticed that fight and got what was coming to them.

Unfortunately, according to an article on MSN"s page.......the league is more worried(and mortified) by the reaction of the players. Some will be suspended for an indefinite period.

I thought the rapper/ball player was so tired from cutting his album that he needed a month off from NBA. I guess he wasnt too tired to try to fight 16,000 people.

Some of the fans(and players) need their a$$es kicked. I'm really surprised something like this hasn't happened earlier.....and on a bigger scale.
Before we had our minor league hockey team(dissolved a few years ago), they were worried that the fans here wouldn't understand the physical nature of hockey(especially checking) and a mass riot would break out.
Back in the '80's or 90's, my uncle went to Boston Garden for a Celtics game and came back with LOTS to talk about. He told me: you think the fans here are abusive towards the players, you should go up there and watch a few games.
Something needs to be done...especially on the fan 'participation" end of things. Just because you buy a ticket(or just go), that don't give you the right to play the fool and cause a fight.

Earl,
You know good damn and well that "people" is not the noun used in that saying. LOL, we're just too politicially correct these days.
Hopefully, justice will prevail and the guilty fans and players will get their just do.
Just because you can afford a $250 sporting event ticket, does not entitle you to call some a ...... "people" (note comment above).

While i fully agree that there has been some stupid crap from some races, its not a race thing when you look over the last 25 yrs of sports and music. Its a stupid PEOPLE thing.
The Rap awards the other night was a frightful reminder of Montery....Dont ever Forget that...

One needs to remember that Artest is the latest "problem child" of the NBA. He didnt get what he wanted when he was "so tired" from being a rapper, so he was just a fuse waiting to be lit.
As far as the fans, as much as they have the right to heckle , to toss something at a player with the intent to cause harm is inexusable. However , if a player cant take the heckling, he needs to change careers. Its part of the game.
Lets also keep in mind that Artest and jones both attacked fans without provacation in the melee. The video tape clearly shows that.

Whos perfect? Not me thats for sure.
Just so you know, just becayse I live in the South, that does not make me a racist. I take offense to that remark. Racism knows no boundries. As many times as I have visited Michigan to see family there, I have seen in the Northern , Eastern, and Western states as well. From San Diego (where I'm originally from if you must know) to Washington DC, it's there......not just in the South.
I stated what I saw in the video. To recap, Artest flagrantly fouls Wallace. The two of them shove , push, yell, scream, etc. While Artest is away from the fracas, some fool tosses a cup of ice at him . Artest and Jones jump in the stands and start pummeling people. Artest then goes back to the floor and swings at anyone in his path. Fans and the palyers involved, mostly Pacers, are in the wrong.
If theres a racist comment in there, let me know.

I still can't believe the comment the idiot made after the fracas: Well, I followed my friend onto the court......That moron is lucky he just got punched. Pete Townshend hit Abbie Hoffman with his guitar when he walked on stage. Remember this: At a concert, the stage is the artist's "office". Sports --- the field, court, ice, etc. is their office. You deserve anything that comes your way when you tresspass. I just wish the NBA would take the blinders off and realize that more than the players are to blame for this mess.

Well.....now WE are the minority. The city is about 85-15 and the blacks WANT IT ALL. We finally have a business man for a mayor(who is black) and they hate him cause he won't "play the game". Maybe one day...before I die, I'll see the city run other than business as usual or the "good ole boy politics.

Only thing missing is the judicial side of the verdict. Maybe that convict Artest will see jail time too(along with some of the fans). Naturally, he's bitching about his suspension. Tough....he's no choir boy and if you do something stupid, you pay the price. With his past skirmishes along with this one...he should be BANNED from the league. Maybe then these hoodlums will realize they can't hide behind their "jobs" for special treatment.

As far as I see it, Artest wanted the time off to promote his rap career. He got it. Shut up.
Now some players and player reps are saying the fines are too excessive. Hey, even tho the fans were wayyy out of line, the players are expected to uphold a code of professionalism. They failed miserablly to do that.
Clemson and South Carolina did the same damn thing on Saturday, but luckily no fans were involved. Punish those guys too.........
Pro atheletes should be held accountable for their actions.....no matter what.

Just got finished watching Sportscenter.....INCREDIBLE! Artest is either mentally deficient, or a certified basket case. "I'm a man and I can do whatever I want WHEN I want". Get a clue.....it is basketball season.......THAT IS YOUR JOB. Do your rap album/promotion in the off-season. Its very apparant he doesn't respect authority. Maybe he needs some quality time in a maximum security prison for a long spell.
The players association is crying foul(as usual). They should meet with defense lawyers and compare notes on how to be slimeballs. If these fines/suspensions are modified, you are seeing the end of the NBA. They've already priced themselves out of many people's pocket, and now they're condoning brutality no matter what the circumstance. True, the players were provoked BUT......the players are "professional" and sober. They have a reputation to uphold. This gang just isn't doing it.
And just think....this is what they want our children to model themselves after.........

No doubt. I long for the days when the sport was a TEAM game and not showtime. Cousy, Maravich, Baylor, Wilt, Russell(and the other greats), I'll take these guys over the clowns now ANY DAY.

Heres my take;
Why was Artest, who is a walking time bomb, still in the game with less than a minute left and 15 points ahead. Coaching failure.
The season ticket holders that had courtside seats had already left and the drunks from the cheap seats had found their way down to courtside where the crap came from.
The Pacers are pretty much gutted for the rest of the season.
The guy that Artest went after in the stands was not the one who threw crap at him. His reaction was, "oh look a player is coming up in the stands to get someone, damn hes coming this way and Im gonna get to watch, crap hes coming after me"
Too bad that player slipped when he went to cold **** that ass on the court or else they would still be peeling his face off of the score board.

He gets PAID to be there thats why....If he cant control himself he will get punished as he did...
Still...Fans should get the same sentences...you cant keep letting the fans off the hook....if they arent involved NOTHING happens but 2 teams bitching at each other. Its time for every league to step up and enforce ALL rules....
I really think the season is way too harsh no matter how nutty he is...

I thought the game was close in the final minutes. Therefore , he would have been in the game. It wasnt a blowout for sure.
Artest has a long history of suspensions and anger issues. Either put him on medication or get him out of the league.......

15 points with less than a minute left, the game was pretty much over.
I wouldnt call the people who were throwing crap and going down on the court to get in a fight a "fan" Thats what I call a Jack Ass.
But with the Brawl in Detroit going on, no one hardly noticed that bench clearing, brawl for all between Clemson and South Carolina on saturday. Or the pregame brawl between Pittsburgh and Cleveland the sunday before.
I think someone owes Vince Mcmahon some royalties cause the WWE couldnt put on a show this good.

I saw that one too. One player even said it was no different than what happened in Detroit.

The county DA up there says charges may be filed against him.
macca

The party has just started. Numerous people are suing both the players and the Pacers, Players Association is filing a protest against Stern. The county is asking for help in identifying the moron who threw the chair into the crowd.
Punish the parties involved(make the suspensions stick!, prosecute the rabblerousers in the crowd), increase security at the arenas. Worse case scenario....put a cage around the court like they did back in the '30's. Something needs to be done. "Fans" are too accessible to the players. I'm surprised something this bad hadn't happened before.

May 25, 1994, RANGERS vs. DEVILS New York trailed New Jersey three games to two in the Eastern Conference finals, with Game 6 the next day at the Meadowlands, but Rangers captain Mark Messier declared of that match, "We will win it." Then he backed up those words with deeds. After New York trailed 2-0, Messier assisted on a goal in the second period and scored a hat trick in the third to lead the Rangers to a 4-2 victory.
