Where is Guy in terms of drummers from our era? I mean where does he rank in comparison to Peart, Bonham et al. Are there any drummers in a class of their own. Am not a drummer so I don't know but feel that Guy is excellent is great timekeeper and doesn't waste any motion or movement. I don't see where he could be considered unique however. Lot of very good drummers.

If we had a poll to let us know this was a poll then the poll would be an interesting poll. So where's the poll?

Guy is a great drummer, but the greatest drummer on the planet is clearly Mr. Neil Peart. He drums for a band very close or should i say closer to my heart, RUSH.

Rushfan. Clearly Peart is great. What insights or musical background though do you have to back up your claim? Are there any drummer's out there that can verify Rushfan's claim. Am talking about technical stuff that I am not even aware of. I feel drumming is a very close to call and there are many "excellent" drummers.

Mckoy, use your ears, if you can hear, you'd hear the difference between Peart and just about anyone out there in his own way, and style.

Guy is a very good drummer as is Neal Peart. Why compare the two, I wouldn't want to hear Neal Peart with Zebra or vice versa. They are both very good with the bands they are with, enjoy it as ti is.

I think Guy is unbelievably talented. There's no wasted movement or motion either. Superbly efficient. Lots of great drummers I even think the guy from Dream Theater is superb.

I think Guy is a fantastic drummer, I think the Zebra studio albums dont do Guy justice, except for Zebra IV...you must see Guy live in order to appreciate how good of a drummer he is...As far as Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, and Carl Palmer, those three are definitely 3 of the greatest drummers of all time, no question about it. It also is a different style of music as compared to Zebra though....I also am a fan of Dave Lombardo of Slayer and Scott Rockenfield of Queensryche amongst many other drummers who influenced me with my playing...so basically, it all comes down to taste...Do you prefer the prog rock drumming style of Peart/Portnoy/Palmer or do you prefer the 70's/80's Rock crossover style of Zebra? That's up to you.............

You're welcome. Now let's try to think of a drummer who's name actually ends with the letter "P".

old school session man - mostly known in jazz circles, but has also recorded with many significant rock artists
played on some Steely Dan (check out the song Aja - he reportly memorized the drum charts in once glance and recorded his take after one run-through) and Paul Simon records, had quite a few of his own side projects (Stuff, Gadd Gang)
tours with the likes of Clapton, Simon, Al DiMeola, Chick Corea among others
a legend

I have to go with Rushfan on this I have always said Neil was the Best and I have yet to see anyone prove that assumption wrong.. Jason and John Bonham,Alex Van Halen,Vinnie Paul, yes even Guy are great in their own style but they are not NEIL..Neil has pioneered Wierd ass time sigs and he can absolutley Split his arms and feet and be playing something totally different with each of the 4. that is VERY difficult...... Good example Listen to Rush the first Lp( wow now I am really showing age with LP..LOL) anyways then go to lets sayMoving Pics or even Permanent Waves or even Fly By Nite...There is a total difference, one because John Rutsey Played on Rush and quit after that then Neil joind it just totally intencified Rush's sound....By the way No I am not a drummer I am a Bass player but we have to play with drummers so I believe I earned the right to elaborate on this..lol...Besides I am a bass player that always wanted to be a drummer just never did become one..lol....

I am not a professional musician (and a very rudimentary drummer), but I know what I think sounds good. I have listened to Guy on album and have seen Guy in concert over the years I feel that he is a very talented drummer. Since Zebra is a trio, his style stands out a lot and you can tell that he propels the band. He is not an overly flashy player, but he can do the rolls, flams, paradiddles and any other drum breaks needed and keeps Zebra trucking along. Like most musicians, I feel he's better in concert than in the studio (most of the time the drums are laid down without a lot of interaction with the other musicians - just the way recording has been done in Rock since the 80's - so there's not the same level of organic feel in it).
Look he's not Peart, Palmer, Bonham or Moon for chrissake, but he is a very excellent player. If I was a musician and wanted to start a band, I'd be VERY HAPPY to have Guy on board - 'nuff said.

Guy Is A Great Drummer, Who Can Play With Anyone, He Has His Own Style.
I Saw No Mention Of Guy's Major Influence, And That Would Be Hendricks Drummer Mitch Mitchel (spelling) A Great Drummer.
Neal Peart Obviously One Of The Greatest.
Portnoy, Great Technical Drummer But I Think He Tries To Do A Little To Much In The Music.
Palmer Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
However The Master Of The Sticks Is The Late Great John Bonham, No He's Not Flashy, He Just Plays And The Rythm Section Is Always Overlooked In My Opinion, Its Hard To Beat What Bonham And Jones Did: Solid, Solid, Solid, They Just Have That Groove That I Cannot Even Think Of Anyone That Comes Close. The Drums Just Fit Every Song, If It Needs To Be Simple It Is , Complex It Is, Nothing More Nothing Less.
Bonham In My Humble Opinion Is And Always WILL Be The Greatest Of All!!!!!
