Hemispheres
I can't pick just one! That's like picking just one Led Zep, Beatles or Zebra song. Impossible...for me, anyway!

Each Rush album has it's own character, it's own personality if you will. They are what attracted me to Zebra. There is nothing better than a band not afraid to explore different sounds, different types of music. No matter what the critics say.

**** Critics, they are bad guitar players most of the times.

You said it, that's why our bands can make it, and make a living with sort of a grass roots following. Radio ****s too, too much hip hop bullshit, not real music played by real musicians anymore.

well, i dont think much of hip hop but i wont deny any music its right to be here, i have the right to shut it off so i do.
We all know that once Fm came alot changed. One thing that changed that i have always feared was the Single from a band.
When FM became cool it wasnt cool to release a single...Hell, the Beatles released some of the Best stuff there.
In time it faded away. I think in one way, Rock sorta killed itself trying to be cool.
If you look at certain things, even when it wasnt cool, Paul Mac would release Singles just because he has done that with the beatles and Wings, The Stones released Singles.
that was what they knew. The Who did it. Kinks. Whoever.
Then MTV came. So now you had to have a video.
Insane thinking.
This world is now controlled by ingenious idiots. Some of it is our fault. Then again, alot is by design. If you rebel against stupitidy eventually, it will fall.
The Design of the Music world is to get out as many fast selling singles by as many people they can rip off.
Zebra never succumbed to that nor would they.
I have alot of faith in alot of artists like Zebra, pearl Jam, the boss, and others that refuse to give in to Record Companies.
Whether you like Bruce or not, he has been a pioneer in artists rights to record what they wanted, and when they wanted.
Not Only do i admire what the BOSS has accomplished i admire more his decision to say what what he wants even in the fear of record sales loss.
I admire other artists speaking up also,
I could care less about Politics, i think they all ****. But i know this for Sure,,,they cant soft soap me (john lennon)

Yes, exactly...you are right on all counts! So many rush songs strike me in different ways. I have to say...when I watched rush in rio and they zoom in on the crowd singing along to closer to the heart- it gave me the goosebumps and i got teary eyed. music is so universal!
closer to the heart is one of my faves...not because it was one of their more popular tunes, but because of the instrumentals and words in the song.
has anyone read neil peart's book "ghost writer?" ive been trying to find a copy to read...

i cant stand that song because of Bob Buchman, alot of us wanted rush on Wbab at the time and thats what we got...What?
We wanted ( we knew we werent getting 2112)
Any quick Fm song would have done like Passage or Farewell or Circumstances, but Buchman wouldnt play nothing but Closer coz...( i quote loosely) He couldnt stand Geddys voice
So...once again..LI loses out because of this idiots opinion.
He has killed WBAB and Now he is killing the Q he needs to be erased.

Whether it's '74 to '82, or '82 and beyond, the best thing about Rush is every album sounds different, they are not afraid to explore new sounds, and different styles. I have been listening to rush for over 25 years, and i have to say that I love all rush. whether it's the harder concept stuff of the '70's or the more progressive stuff of the '90's and 2000's.
sue, i believe you asked about the book Ghost rider. Excellent book , read it cover to cover, there is also a song on Vapor Trails of the same name. Go to Rush.com and order it. It's Neil's story of going on the road on his motorcycle to clear his head and think about his life after the double tragedy he had to live through, losing his daughter and wife in the same year. I encourage all to read it, and buy Vapor Trails, it's a great cd.

Thanks, Rushfan...I know it was a song off of Vapor Trails. Although I have been listening to Rush since the early 80's, I only got to experience my first Rush concert at Jones Beach for the Vapor Trails tour. It was amazing. What I didn't know was that Natural Science was an "old" song. It was one of my favorites from the Vapor Trails tour. I've been trying to find Ghost Writer. I'll check out the website ( I didn't think of that!).

Sue,
As a lifelong rushfan, i can honestly say that natural science is my favorite song. Neil peart's lyric writing on that song is off the charts. Take away the music, it's a poem. Much like most of his stuff.
speaking of Ghost rider, he wrote another pretty cool book before that called the masked rider. He bicycled across Africa and wrote of his adventures.

why did they rip caress of steel apart Rushfan?
RUSHFAN
10-26-2004, 11:12 AM
the critics panned it because they said it was too one dimensional, too basic , no depth. their anger over caress of steeel spurred the aggression in 2112.
