My sister, Julie, has this week, been diagnosed with leukemia.

She bravely battled cancer last year and won - now this turns up.
She is a single Mom of a wonderful 6 year old boy, who misses her
terribly. She has been in the hospital since Monday and will be there for a number of weeks. She is undergoing some intense
chemotherapy, in hopes of getting her into remission - then a bone marrow transplant would be performed. Anyone out there into prayer - please say a few for her.

She is a wonderful person, Mom, sister, daughter, friend!

She is creative (she makes decorative flower pots, vases, and stepping stones)

She is musical (she has a beautiful voice & plays acoustic guitar)

She has a great personality (& has many, many wonderful friends
who have all stepped forward to help)

She is kind & giving (offers help to those who need it)

SHE IS MY BEST FRIEND !!!!

Please keep her in your hearts and prayers.....
Thank you!

You know she will be in my prayers. Sadly I lost my first husband 7 years ago to brain cancer, so I know first hand how devastating this illness can be.

Your sister will be in my prayers daily, I have a huge faith in God and prayer can be a powerful thing. May God watch over you and all your family.

The more prayers - the better! My family & I appreciate all your
thoughts and prayers. I will keep you posted.

She had a mishap in the hospital Saturday night.
She got up in the middle of the night to adjust the temperature
in her room (she was cold), and fell and broke her leg in two
places....Just what she needed! She's in a cast now and
confined to her bed.

Lymphoma is what she had last year and leukemia now.
Thanks for keeping her in your prayers. You'll be in mine

Thank you again, Adam & April. I can't tell you how much
your concern means to me. I will keep everyone posted.
Tomorrow my other sister and I will begin to be tested to
see if either of us match to donate bone marrow. I hope at
least one of us is a match for the transplant.....

My sister has a few more days of intense chemo then has
to wait a week, get tested for leukemia cells - hopefully
none left - then possibly the bone marrow transplant....

Yesterday my other sister & I were tested to see if
our either of us could be a match for the bone marrow
transplant..... Keep the faith that one of us is a match!
Siblings have a 25% chance of being a match....

Her 6 year old son misses her terribly....and I have a whole
new appreciation for working Moms! I am living with him
as a "fill-in Mom" right now, and I am exhausted!!!

My Sis is being strong even though the treatment makes
her soooooo sick....It hurts seeing her go through so
much hell and I know it's a thousand times worse being in
her shoes.

She'll be tested on Friday to see if the treatment has
brought her into remission yet....Please pray for that.
She'll need a bone marrow transplant and more
treatments.

I'm still being a substitute Mom, living at
her house taking care of her 6 year old son....and I'm
worn out! I can't lie down & rest after work any more, or watch anything other than the Cartoon Network on TV, or go out
with Macca hardly ever.....but my Sister means the world to me
and I will do all I can to help out! Keep the prayers and positive thoughts coming in!!!

Thanks for all the support!

P. S. We found out today that neither my youngest sister
or myself was match for a bone marrow transplant. We
were certainly hoping that one of us would be. Now they'll
have to do a national search for a match, which could take
a while - wish her luck.....

My sis had a bone marrow test this week and got the results
today- the results were good! No leukemia cells...the
doctor said she is right in line where she should be with
her treatment. Much more is ahead, but she is making
progress....the treatment is terrible and makes her very
very ill. It's hard seeing her so sick. I'm still taking care of her
little one and he is being a real trooper. It's not easy for
a 6 year old (who only has a Mom ), to be apart from her for so long! I'm worn out, but would do anything for my sister!

Thanks again everyone for tall the encouragement,
positive thoughts, and prayers!!!!!

Sunday my sister had a high fever all day. Her "port"
(the hole in her where the chemo & other med.'s go),
was very infected. Today they took her to surgery to
remove it and install it in another place. She did fine.
Her immune system is down to nothing from all the chemo,
so we're praying this infection clears up soon. She is still
very weak, and sick from all the treatment. She has been hospitalized for three weeks now. Keep all the positive
thoughts and prayers coming!

THANKS !!!

I know exactly what your sister and you and your whole family is going through. My first husband also had a port installed. I had to flush it with saline everyday. I pray your sister will get stronger
every day and she will recuperate. Chemo is very powerful and really can wear a person down. If she can get through that, she can get through anything. You all must have faith, I truly believe we are nothing without it.

My sister is in need of a bone marrow transplant.
No one in the immediate family has been a match. We are
now sending out letters to aunts, uncles, and cousins
on both sides of the family to volunteer to be tested.

Wish us luck that someone matches.....So far the insurance
company will only pay for the transplant if a relative
matches. The cost of the transplant is $500,00.00!
Otherwise she goes into the national bone marrow
registry....

Her son had a nice visit with her in the hospital yesterday.
They allow her to meet him in a visiting room. He thinks it's
cool that he has to wear a mask & gloves - thinks he's a doctor!

Keep the positive thoughts and prayers coming! THANKS

My sister was feeling a bit better yesterday. They are waiting

I realize that the chances of a non-relative being a donor match for your sister are slim, but is there an inexpensive way for any volunteers to be screened on the off-chance they'd be a match? If there is, let me know... I'll gladly volunteer to be tested.

My sister is feeling somewhat better and has been home
for about a week now....of course she was with us when
we evacuated to Houston (14 hours on the road)...The
trip really tired all of us out - especially her. She has even
gotten out of the house a few times to go out to dinner,
visit a friend briefly, a short shopping run to Michael's
(the craft store), and to church. She is really enjoying being
back home with her young son, Jesse. He is thrilled to have
her here. More prayers are needed. She has a lot of
treatment ahead.....

Fundraiser Friday night (9/24) for my sister was a huge success !!!

The first fundraiser my for sister, Julie, was jammed-packed
with well-wishing, money-spending people! The second one
will be held next month....

The event was a lot of fun, too! There was music, a ton
of good food (donated by local restaurants and caterers),
a huge table full of awesome desserts, soft drinks, beer,
wine, and daiquiris. About 50 door drizes were awarded,
about 80 raffle prizes, and 50 silent auction items- many
nice pricey items... There was also a 50/50 money raffle.

The place was all decorated for Fall with centerpieces,
pumpkins, balloons, Fall leaves, etc. Everyone there said
they had a great time and a lot of money was raised to
help my sister. The outpouring of support was overwhelming!
There are lots of good, caring human beings in this world!

After 2 1/2 nice weeks being at home with her
6 yr. old son, my sister is back in the hospital

Thanks for the ongoing prayers sassy1....

After this round, she is supposed to have 3 more rounds
of chemo....then eventually(if a match is found), a bone
marrow transplant....if no match is found, they will
harvest her own bone marrow, while she's in
remission and she'd supply her own marrow - only
problem with the self-donated marrow is more chance
of leukemia recurring.....

My sister is doing well, right now, being home and all...
Her immune system is down right now (white count)
from the chemo, so she can't be around a lot of people
or eat out. When her white count goes back up, she'll
be allowed to mingle with people again.... She should be home for about three weeks....

My little nephew (6 yr old) is going to be on stage this
Saturday at his school fair. His Aunt KK (aka "Ziggy")
will be there, front and center with her camera. Let's
hope they don't get rained out!

Tomorrow night (Friday 10/8/04) we'll probably go see
Penny Lane at the Blue Moon... Saturday night, we're heading
to the coast to see Johnny Rivers (Macca surprised me with tickets!) Have a great weekend everyone. Can't wait
for H2H's Party next weekend and Zebra at the Oyster Fest!

Jesse stole the show. Dressed in baseball attire, the 1st
grade boys danced to John Fogerty's song
"Centerfield", in which they pretended to hit a baseball,
danced a little, and stood in place playing air guitar.
During the "air guitar" parts where all the other little
boys just stood in place strumming their
imaginary guitars - Jesse dropped to his knees and then
on his back wailing on his imaginary rock guitar! It was
so funny....(His Mom and I have definitely influenced him
with rock-n-roll !) The crowd laughed and cheered at
his performance!!!! I wish I had it on video....I only took
photos ....

P.S. he knows the Jack Black movie
"School Of Rock" by heart......

My sister got to celebrate Halloween with us
and her son for a few hours. She was in the
hospital, but let out on a 4 hour pass. (Halloween is her
favorite holiday)
She got to come
to a party our youngest sister had and got to go
trick or treating with her 6 yr old son (who was dressed as
Elvis). He said "thank you, thank you very much" each time
he received some candy.

Yes, Johnny! Her spirits were low that weekend
and thinking she was gonna miss Halloween didn't help.
She was so pleased when the doctor agreed to spring her
for 4 hours Halloween night. She decided to go out in
costume - she went as a patient. She borrowed a
hospital gown to wear. She also wore a mask and gloves.
My other sister went as a cute Pumpkin,
brother-in-law -- as a Crash Test Dummy,
and I went as a Witch w/ purple hair.....
We tried to make it fun!

A second bone marrow testing drive will be held in hopes
of finding a match for my sister. Her life depends upon
getting a bone marrow transplant. Please consider being
tested if you can.....The testing is all free, thanks to
generous donations. A blood sample is taken to
determine if you could be a possible donor match.

My sister went back into the hospital on Monday 11/22/04.
She had another high dosage round of chemo. So far - it
hasn't made her nearly as sick as the first high dosage
round did. (Keeping our fingers crossed that it stays that way)

She missed Thanksgiving, but we are very hopeful that she
will be back at home for Christmas! She needs to be with
Jesse (her 6 yr old son) and he needs her to be home with
him. His Aunt Karen does everything she can, but is NO

BDS,
Thanks for asking, but nothing more has been scheduled...

They have put my Sister's info in the National Bone
Marrow Registry (actually it's worldwide). The hospital
even had my Mom, my other sister, and I
go in for further blood testing last week - not that any
of us matched - they said they needed to better study
the components in our family's blood....

Continue to keep my sister Julie in your prayers....

She found out today that her leukemia is back.

She is leaving for M.D. Anderson in Houston on Thursday
and will be admitted on Friday. I wish I could be in two
places at once - to be there with her and to be here
with her son Jesse. Since I can't do that, I will be staying
on here at her house indefinitely, being "stand-in" Mom
for Jesse. One of my Aunts is driving her to Houston and
will stay on there for a while with her. She'll probably be there
for several months, which will be very hard on Jesse.

This hospital is supposed to be the best, so that is where
she should be....

It is exhausting working & taking care of a kid, (doing homework, ironing uniforms, making lunches, preparing meals, dropping off/picking up from school, etc. etc. ) whenyour my age and you've never had kids....but I do whatever
I can for my sister and my nephew. She'd do

...thought my Sister was gonna be admitted into
M.D. Anderson (Cancer Hospital) in Houston when she got
there last week. She (so far) has just filled out tons of
paperwork, met with several doctors, had many tests done,
etc. They told her they decided to treat her on a
outpatient basis for several weeks. So she living in a
hotel and going daily to the hospital for treatments.
She was told that her type of leukemia is the most
difficult kind to treat and has the least amount of
research available. The treatment they have is experimental.
Still hoping God (& the doctors) have a plan to cure her!

No one needs to respond.....I'm just trying to keep
everyone posted....and get things off my chest, too.

P.S. Jesse got all A's and B's on his report card!!!
I'm so proud of him! My little nephew ROCKS!
