During Christmas time we all get into the spirit. I find that christmas music doesnt have to always be soft and sissy. What about the rockin man/woman that wants some heavy crap. The trans-siberian orchestra is great for the heavy christmas you have always wanted. Put in the ear muffs Santa, the TSO is taking christmas music to a new level.

I've seen TSO 3 times now. There is such an energy, you have to keep going back. Savatage is recording a new album, as is TSO. Also, Chris Caffery is recording a solo album that is due out in the near future. It's going to be a double cd, so there's going to be alot of new Savatage related material out soon. I still wish they'd do a live album and dvd (TSO, that is). Their albums are amazing, but nothing beats their live experience.

I have not heard this.
Are you sure?

A little trivia:

Does anyone know how Savatage came up with their name?

As far as the Savatage album...I'm pretty sure. I think all that is going on as the TSO and Chris Caffery albums are also being recorded. But hell, it's been a long week, maybe thinbs are getting jumbled in my head (yeah, like that's not a daily occurance already under normal circumstances!!!!). As for the Savatage name coming to fruition, I believe the story goes something like this. The original name of the band was Avatar. But, there as another band with that name who had legal rights to it. So, as they were completing recording of their first album and had to decide on a name the night before the tapes and artwork were to go to print, they sat down and had a brainstorm. For whatever reason, someone said "put an S in front of that", and then decided to take of the R, and stuck a GE at the end. Hence, Savatage was born....something between savage and sabotage. At least I think that's how the story goes. When it comes to rock band names, you can never tell. Anyone ever hear where ZZ Top got their name???

Wasn't that the name of the rolling papers they were using?
It's a bit foggy, but I think it had something to do with that.

When it comes to bands and their names, anything is possible for it's inspiration. And then, even if they explain it, you never know if they're telling the truth. But, the answer I heard was from a VH-1 special a few years back. They gave "the answer" to their name, but it sounded true enough and actually made sense, so it sounded true to me. It had nothing to do with rolling papers. Keep guessing.

hmmm....had to do a little research on this, and here is what I came up with.

1 - "According to Gibbons, their odd name came from one or more of the following: the two brands of rolling-paper, Zig-Zag and Top, a tribute to blues legend Z.Z. Hill, and/or Gibbons seeing the two words running together on a dilapidated bill board."

2 - • ZZ Top. According to the ZZ Top Web site, Billy Gibbons wanted the band's albums to be at the very back of the record stores, hence the name that would guarantee them end-of-alphabet status.

Who knows?
