I would imagine the Redbook story is legit. Else they'd get their asses sued off....I remember Val's interview on Lifetime or some bullshit show. She had Ed there with her when he was sober. He looked like shit. He was really thin and he admitted he was an alcoholic and that if he ever drank again" he'd be in trouble"....My read on that was totally Valerie laying down the law...If you don't give it up...I'm leaving.

I think we can all read between the lines. Eddie was and is still an alcoholic.

Val didn't wanna bring a child into the world under those conditions (so it must've been bad - you know half a case a day...Bottle of Jack a day) They went ahead and had a child anyway.
Ed calmed down a bit but heads out on a world tour for the **** album. Hagar said in his book that Ed was drinking like a mother ****er in Japan. He was so drunk he didn't think he'd be able to play. Makes sense from an alcoholic's POV...I'm halfway around the world away from my wife...She'll never find out...So, the tour ends. He comes home and says he's still sober...I'm still on the wagon. Then he gets a huge DWI...Faces jailtime.

Val draws the line.
(which the whole affair thing is a joke...It's more like MULTIPLE affairs...Don't tell me this guy hasn't got caught numerous times with his pants down. This may have just been the only broad who had a NAME)

She tells him he cleans up or she's out.
He checks into rehab again and actually cleans up.They record Balance and hit the road..He slips a little bit on the road. Seems determined but shit statrs going bad with Hagar while on the road - STRESS - maybe a few drinks..

Hagar cruises - STRESS - maybe a few more drinks. Roth is in - STRESS. Roth is out STRESS.
Cherone comes on board..New album - STRESS. Cherone ****s. The album dies....STRESS...He fires Cherone....STRESS....He fires Danniels - STRESS....Guess what - the guy is definitely
drinking again - but he has tried to hide it as much as possible from Val. She finds out (they always do) and busts his chops. He keeps it under control.

ROTH comes back around - STRESS....Roth is in ....Roth is out...STRESS. He's drinking a little again.

He gets cancer - STRESS. He beats it...Valerie
tells him "you gotta change (drinking and smoking)or you're gonna be dead.If you love me. If you love your child - you'll get better and be around for us"...It works for a spell...

Then WB fires them - STRESS...He's drinking again...Maybe heavily this time...He's also still smoking...Like most alcoholics, he possibly defends his habit one last time..." Get off my ass...I just had a bout with cancer...My career is dead...I just lost my record deal. My fans are turning against me. I'm not hurting anyone here It's just a few beers." But as any alcoholic knows - it's never a few beers..Two or three a day turns into 5 or 6...Then 10-12...Then you've got morning drinks prior to the beer officially starting at noon.It all builds..

Finally Val gives up..."You can't save someone from themselves."...I'm sure her life over the past five years has been hell...She's watched him go through some of the worst times of his life and I'm sure he's dealt with it the way all alcoholics do...Numb yourself from the pain.
Nothing feels right without a cigarette and a beer in your hand...

Quite honestly, the guy has probably TOTALLY fallen off the wagon right now due to the divorce. Probably why those pics look so bad...He's probably drowning himself in booze, painkillers or whatever else just to numb the pain.

She probably still loves him but refuses to watch him kill himself...And in the end, I'll bet you money that's exactly what will happen...If it's not tongue cancer, it'll be lung cancer or liver failure...

The question is - where the **** is his big brother through all of this...You need family to step in when you're ****ing up..Maybe Alex is too ****ed up to help either....Sad.

So there's my perspective...When you spell it out like that. It almost starts to make sense why we haven't heard anything from them..When the pain hits an alcoholic, the number 1 thing is to stay ****ed up cuz that's the only time you're happy.
Compound that with a bad manager, no singer, pissed off fans and a wife who is threatening to leave you - you start to fall in your hole....Some people can crawl out of it..They can say "hey I'm ****ing up. I need to change" Others will see the whole world as being ****ed up and
"nobody understands me. I'm fine....I need this fix to be all right...I'm not hurting anyone. It makes me a better person" So you keep doing it because you're convinced that you're OK...In the end, you've lost everything...It's really, really sad.

Very true, very true. I'm glad he doesn't feel the same as Cobain did, with all the hype and all, just couldn't handle all the fame and fortune. Ed has watched this group fall after Balance, due to years and years of control, slowly slipping away with age. Did he honestly think he was going to stay on top forever.

Either 2 things will happen, you choose which one you want. Either he will continue to slip away to oblivion, or he'll snap out of it, and gig with Dave and Sammy, and feel important again. I mean, your an artist by profession, not by birth. No one is born a musician or a scholar. It's something you WANT to do. Right now, he doesn't WANT to do anything, but eventually will. He'll wake up and ride into the sunset on a good note. They'll do a huge tour, once he see's groups like Led Zeppelin rocking next year. Perhaps an album with all the singers. It will sell big time, and then a farewell tour. He'll get his life back, become a producer, and a husband again.

Relax folks, VH will be back. There is way too much talent left in their minds. And Alex will be there, pushing him along very soon.

As far as DLR goes, it sounds like he's a handful to deal with, but I doubt he's as bad as people make him out to be. It's just after awhile, it all builds up and you need to get away from the guy, or else he'll get on your nerves and you snap. A lot of people are like that, some are just better and quicker at it than others. Dave seems to be quite good and quick at this!!! But just because Eddie is known around the world as THE rock guitar legend, doesn't make him an angel. He's not making enemies of his singers, family, and friends because he's the quiet, humble guy he always claims to be, but nobody else really claims. They just say he's a great guy, and leave it at that. From all I've seen, being a huge VH fan for 20+ years, it's ben clear for several years to me now that Eddie had a bigger part, if not the biggest part, in all the downfalls bestowed on the VH camp in recent years. To me, it just looks like a guy that had a quick rise to fame, fortune, and glorification the world over by fans and peers alike, and that for a long time, no matter what he did, it wasn't only great, it was worshipped. He could have farted on tape and it wouldn't have only sold, it would have been idolized, revered, and picked apart by everyone to study just "how the hell did he fart with such style???" That mixed in with all the problems mentioned in that amazing summary above, and getting older, growing as a person, tastes changing and all the other things that go with being a musician for years and years and making many, many albums where diversity is inevitable, I think he just got lazy and used to being able to do anything he wanted without regard to anything, even his fans or band, and started putting out subpar songs expecting the same results as always. And when it didn't happen that way, with all the problems he was in the middle of, and the only way to get out of it was with using a clear head, he just didn't have it. No matter what happens now, I think it's too late. Yes, he could get Dave and Sammy back, and the tour would be successful, but would anyone care about anything beyond that? Wouldn't it just be the nostalgia we were going for? Would anyone want the new album, or care if they even made one? I doubt they'd have another hit song. Would they even care about that? Probably not. I just think right now, it would be too little, too late, no matter what they did. It would just be another novelty act coming back, and that's sad. Because they were always so much better than that.

Some good points made hear. He NEEDS to clean up. Alex no help. VH fell from the face of the earth. One of my fave bands but I'm hoping and praying that EVH doesnt end up like Hendrix.....Come on Eddie, the so called music industry NEEDS VH!!!!
