I thought this might fun especially for us who are in their late 30's and 40's.

It seems that these are a thing of past sadly...I think they helped work your brain more than viedo games! I was a total baord game addict and still am - although Stix doesn't like board games - he's part of the computer generation!

Now think back to really obscure games....not common ones like Monopoly, Life, Chutes and Ladders etc.

Some of mine.....

Mousetrap
Ker-plunk
Battling Tops
Johnny Lightening Race Track (yes, I HAD this- I was quite the tomboy!)
Hey Pa, There's A Goat on the Roof (one of my fave games)
Stratego
Risk
Sorry
Trouble

I"m sure I'll think of more.....

How about: Toppling Tower ( I think it was by Ideal)
Skittle Bowl (Aurora)

Skittle Bowl was great!! "I came to play "Wisconsin Skinny"! "
Pivot Pool, Stratomatic Football, I actually won Johnny Lightning Indy 500 on Wonderama for "Does Anybody Here Got An Aardvark" back on my 7th birthday, May 15th 1970. LOVED that game!
"Trouble trouble that's the name of Kohner's popomatic game...
move your men around the track and try to send the others back.." what was it's "cousin" again?....Headache?
Careers, Parcheesi, and I still love a good game of chess.
One of my favorites was Miles Bournes. Anyone ever play this?
Everything was in French.
"Open the door for your....Mystery Date!"

BTW....I just noticed that "Toys" were included.
BIG JIM poppin' the "muscle band"!!

My favorite all time board game is 1985's NFL VCR Quarterback. I still own this game and still play it. I also dig Clue and Connect Four as well...

Operation
Mouse Trap
Sorry
Battleship
Skittle Bowl
Twister
Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots
Monopoly
Life
Hot Wheels(both manual and the "charged ones")
Clackers(well...that was high school....got bruised a lot too)
Goat On A Roof
That game with the monkeys.......the one where you picked them up by hooking the tails....
Trouble
Risk
KerPlunk
Toss-Across
Trouble
Chinese Checkers
Yo'Yo's(and all the tricks)
Tops - especially the wooden ones when you could "spike" your opponent.
Slot Car electric racers - when the tracks were big and the cars were huge! Remember the places you could go and race against each other?
Many others.......can't remember them all.

Funny thing......go in a store and see how many games are still around(especially the ones when I was growing up in the 60's!) They must have been doing something right.....

chinarain62
03-22-2004, 05:16 PM

The monkey thing.....Monkey's in a Barrell!

I think it was called - Barrel full of Monkeys. I've been racking my brain over that one.

My favorites were Trouble and Parchesi.

I know it's not a board game but I loved etch-a-sketch and Mr. Potato Head. Wow, the things we did before computers. Even outdoor games, like hopscotch, jumprope, dodge ball, red light green light 1, 2, 3. Monkey in the middle. There goes that monkey thing again. Oh! I wish I was a little girl again. See what you started CR

Yep - miss those days.

I also remember playing Jacks with the metal jacks!

Crazy Foam which was for when you took your bath

love2sing
03-22-2004, 06:33 PM
My all time favorite board game was scrabble. I love words. can you tell?

I played with Jack once, but he wasn't made out of metal. Hmmm I think that's where I first saw crazy foam

chinarain62
03-22-2004, 06:53 PM
Crazy Foam was packaged in the cool cans like say the can was Spiderman's body and the cap was is head and his mouth is where the foam came out of.

It was probably just a modified version of shaving cream! It was fun though....

I was shattered when they stopped making it! But I thinkit's back - but it's never the same.

I used to get the clown and bird cans.

My favorite thing was watching "Winky Dink" and putting my "magic screen" on the TV and saving "Winky" from precarious situations by drawing a rope or a bridge.......
Okay, so I was too poor for the damn kit and used crayons and got my ass beat all the time for drawin' on the TV, but I still remember those days!
