Anybody going to this? Depending on how much tickets are, I probably will go, but they are playing Ozzfest 7/14 at Jones Beach...

Phil Anselmo - why does that nbame sound familiar?????

malja316
03-22-2004, 09:54 AM
Because Phil Anselmo is the former lead singer of Pantera. They have broken up and now, the guitar player (Dimebag Darrell) and Vinnie Paul (drummer/Dimebag's brother) are in a band called Damageplan and Phil sings for SJR...

I love Pantera and miss them incredibly...If I would have known that 2000/2001 would be their last tour ever (as of now...) I would have went to see them on their headlining tour of "Reinventing The Steel" or I would have seen them with Slayer the following summer. I saw them like 5 times in the 90's and they were some of the best shows I ever saw!

I have the Damageplan album and its pretty good, though nowhere near as good as Pantera. Worth a listen though....SJR is decent, I cant say I am a huge fan of them but I have both of their albums....it has some good tunes on each and a few bad ones. Nowhere near as good as Pantera...

Maybe they can all solve their problems with each other and reunite someday...

Yeah I know, I figured some of the people of the southern chapter of the msg board would at least know who they are or maybe could be fans of them....

I had an old friend who LOVED Pantera and got her nose broken twice int he mosh pit at their concerts!

UH, why is your friend who is a female getting her nose broken on 2 occasions in a Pantera moshpit? I dont wanna sound sexist or anything like that, but females should not be in Pantera or Slayer moshpits with a bunch of highly testoroned, sweaty, muscular, tough guy skinheads/longhairs.

These 2 bands have the most rowdiest fans in all of metal, if they are not the top 2, they are in the top 10 at least for sure...

That really does **** for your friend and please dont get the impression that I am discriminating against your friend or women for that matter in general....nothing ****s more than seeing females getting hurt at shows, I have seen it all, let me tell you...

Pantera with Black Sabbath at Nassau was a good show, the only beef I had with that show was that Phil would not shut the hell up in between songs. I guess as the years went on, Phil just kept talking and talking some more. In the early to mid 90's, it wasnt all that bad...but nonetheless a great band and its cool that along with the downtown, we have another good reliable place for rock and roll shows. I heard the Donkey is a very nice place and this SJR show will be my first one there.

Could Zebra play the Donkey or is it too small?

ZEBRA COULD PLAY THE DONKEY IN A HEART BEAT

THE DONKEY HAS A HUGE CAPACITY 1000 PPL

1000 PPL IS A LOT OF REVENUE, AND EVEN THOUGH ZEBRA AND

RANDY HAVE A STRONG LOYALTY TO GUS (ONE OF THE OWNERS

OF THE DONKEY, AND THE VILL PUB) (ALLTHOUGH ABSENTEE NOWA DAYS)

RANDY AND ZEBRA ALSO PLAY AT THE DOWNTOWN, WHICH IS TOO

CLOSE, DAVE GLICKER PLAYS HARD BALL AND WONT HAVE ZEBRA

AT THE DOWNTOWN IF THEY PLAY THE DONKEY. IF THERE WAS A

WAY TO MAKE THAT SHOW HAPPEN WE WOULD STILL BE POSTING

ABOUT WHAT AN AMAZING SHOW IT WAS.

ON A SIDE NOTE GUS IS ALSO ONE OF THE OWNERS OF THE VIPER BAR (WALL ST) IN HAUPPAUGE AND I HAVE SPOKEN WITH

HIM ON OCCASION ABOUT ZEBRA THERE AND ITS NOT ENTIRLEY

OUT OF THE QUESTION, THE PROBLEM WITH BOTH ROOMS IS

THEY ARE PACKED ON FRIDAY AND SAT NIGHTS SO THATS WHY

THE SHOWS WOULD HAVE TO BE ON WEEK NIGHTS

SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT THERE NEW CD IS GOOD (( ANY FEEDBACK))

malja316

The new SJR CD is pretty good, I wouldnt call the new one or the last one a great CD though. The last one sounds a bit Panteraish, with the new one, they break away from that and remind me of the Dirty Rotten Imbeciles (DRI) and some of the other sludge type bands. Its worth a listen, but Pantera blows away SJR...

The Damageplan CD (Vinnie/Dimebag) is pretty good too, it has its moments, but Pantera blows them away too...

I might have to pick it up.

yeah, if you can get it onsale, its a decent CD to have, but dont expect it to be great...its has some really fast songs on there, has a few slow ones, some of the songs sound really sludgy like Down and EyeHateGod and a few of them are hard to put into words...you can tell Phil is trying to break away from Pantera with this new SJR CD...

What a good show last night @ The Crazy Donkey with SJR. 90 Minute set of pure metal! Representing from this msg board were Jon Wakdood, JoelZboy, Wednesday, and myself. Great place to see a show, my 1st time in attendance at this great venue and would love to return someday for another show. Special thanks for JoelZ for taking care of everyone last night, I never seen anyone with quick hands and fast service at the bar before! But like he says "he is just that good." Glad to see everyone from the board last night at the show...Phil sounded good, I was worried he was gonna be a drunken mess onstage, but he was fine..wasnt exactly sober but I was satisfied with his performance. I was able to get the setlist from the stage (only got to meet Hank 3 and Kevin after the show, nobody else came out of the bus, so no I did not meet Phil) and manage to catch Jimmy's guitar pic.
