NY'ers get a little taste of Mardi Gras today

New Yorkers get a little taste of Mardi Gras today at the Irish-Italian Parade.....

Yes folks - today the Yankee Message Board Menbers
were exposed to one of our traditional parading events.

This one celebrates St. Patrick's Day and St. Joseph's Day
for the Irish and the Italian. Besides the traditional
items thrown like beads and cups and trinkets - people go
to this parade for the GROCERIES! Yes, cabbages, potatoes,
cucumbers, carrots, onions, apples, oranges, pasta,
lucky beans, etc, etc. are hurled through the air at those
attending this parade. You must pay attention or you'll
be unexpectedly hit by flying vegetables. (Most of us got hit.)

Maccca and I met up with Tim, Debbie, Johnny & Leslie, Maria,
Bungle, Clara and Andy.... Everyone had a great time!

Tonight - Bourbon Street?

As long as they keep it at the parade and no one throws it at the band while they perform, then it must be good!

I slept as late as I could, even breakfasted in bed, then went to the Quarter but only to Decatur and the French Market because I am preparing a NEW ORLEANS IN A BOX for my friends in NJ. I wanted to meet up with everyone but was feeling totally lazy and was enjoying the sunshine with a good paperback on a park bench at Jackson Square.

But...who's Debbie? And did Toni Anne go to the Quarter?

I'm glad Johnny, Leslie and Maria didn't throw all them potatoes and onions back at the people on the floats. After awhile you get tired of getting hit with the shit. Stuff flying from everywhere.


By the way, I'm cooking cabbage and potatoes as I write. UUUMMM UUUMMM.

yep....yesterday was not to be a day to be casually attending a parade. The groceries came from everywhere.....front, back, upper and lower parts of the float - cabbage, potatoes, onions, carrots, bannanas, oranges, and other assorted goodies. Maria got clunked in the head, I caught one in the chest, and Clara got nailed too. The upside.....we all had a blast and sure got enough to make a serious meal! I'd love to get the coward that dumped a drink on Debbie's(Danny's wife) daughter. After he dumped, he disappeared.

Was the throwing of cabbage a mardi gras thing or an Irish thing? I mean since it was an Italian and Irish parade. I thought that was kinda funny

That's an Irish thing, Chara. They started that in the St. Patrick's day parade...... ( It was the previous weekend)
