ONE MORE CHANCE/TAKE YOUR FINGERS IS MY SECOND CHOICE...
I HAVE A TATTOO THAT I TOOK FROM FINGERS...
FIRST I GOT THE STARSHINE,MOONSHINE(STAR AND MOON)...
THEN I ADDED ALL THE LIGHT THAT SHINES ON ME TO IT...
MY DAUGHTERS NAME,LIGHTNING,THE SUN,AND A RAINBOW!!!
I THINK THAT COVERS IT...
I WAS GONNA HAVE THE WORDS: STARSHINE,MOONSHINE,YOUR
THE LIGHT THAT SHINES UPON ME BABY!!!
CIRCLING AROUND THE TATOO BUT IT WOULDN'T FIT!!!

In my hayday, of a pizza cook, many moons ago, I found several 45's of Zebra. I told the guy I would buy them from them, and pleaded with the owners of the jukebox to put them in. Needless to say, the jukebox company is gone, and I lost out on some collectables. It had "Who's Behind The Door", "Bears", "Tell Me What You Want", and I can't recall the 4th song. Have to ask Randy what songs they put out on 45's. I know it was at least 2 45's.

ZF- Good memory. I have a recording of Zebra playing "All of My Love", but it has a glitch in it. Another rarity...I have Zebra playing the Knack's "My Sharona", but it also has imperfections.
I wonder if I can use that as blackmail! That has to be the most "out of character" cover they ever played. I can remember seeing them play it, and wondering "are they serious"?

Greggco- Zebra did play "Four Sticks" and Randy has played it acoustically as well. An acoustic version is on My Play. I have Zebra playing it as well.

My husband told me that persia use to be called Royal Orleans.
We have not heard anything by them(I'm too young), I guess they sound like Zebra?
My husband ran into the guitarist in 1986 at The Firm's concert. He said he was wearing really tight leopard pants and looked like he thought he was a rockstar!

what do you think about China Rain's song Last Forever?
I think Zebra should include this in their set list.

mark
07-23-2002, 10:38 AM
I think Zebra Girl is right. Besides 'Light Of My Love' Zebra should regularly include other random China Rain tunes in their set list. While 'Last Forever' is indeed a awesome tune, I can see 'Your Only Lonely Today' fitting quite well into their standard repetoire.

OU812
07-23-2002, 12:37 PM
last forever a great song . I thought Randy should have played that song with zebra I think it might have helped move his solo cd more.

Sue
07-23-2002, 01:35 PM
I happen to really like China Rain "Bed of Nails". I know I might take some bashing for that, but I like it! I agree with Mark and Zebragirl...My 2 favorite songs on the album are "Last Forever" and "Light of My Love", I also like "I Loved, You Lied". Come to think of it...every song is good except "Psychedelic Sex Reaction". I think it's cheesey...thank god it's a remake. Randy does play China Rain songs at his acoustic shows sometimes. It would be cool to hear them more often though :D

Big Sun
07-23-2002, 04:48 PM
Yes Sue, That line in "Psychedelic Sex Reaction" is really cheesy when Randy says "now ya shoot my pinball, got my flippers goin" ow whatever. :)

I do LOVE pinball however, so I let Randy slide on that one.

I was working as a tennis clerk when i heard the china rain cd. i brought it to work to listen to it from start to finish. It's really hard to have an opinion on the first listen, and really liking the artist, being a young kid, etc. Then walked in the vending machine guy - he ripped on me. "what are you listening to?!" It was pyschadelic sex reaction. One other part that gets to me is the first words of before it's too late; he's sings real low, and i'm thinking, "what is that?" i agree with the previous post about "last forever" and "i loved you lied". Without looking at the insert, I believe those are mostly randy left alone. Please don't make randy write with other people, i don't like it. I wish zebra would take some of these scattered tunes, and include them in the studio releases = riverside, eulalie, children of the heart, last forever, etc.

OU812
07-24-2002, 03:58 PM

I wish Randy could get the old mix back on his vocals. The compression or something (especially on the debut albulm) I love the best. Seems like his voice may be changing a bit over the years (God bless him, he's sung in alot of smokey clubs) Wish the live vocal mix was as clean as the studio. Hoooray for the new album! How about the next one? I'm ready. Go diamond!

The song was indeed recorded by a band called Babylon A.D., on their 1992 album, Nothing Sacred.

I once saw this song requested at a Randy Jackson solo show, and he stated that he couldn't remember the lyrics! (He gave it a brief try, though.)

About the best Zebra song: It'll be on the new album.

Search Google.com for Randy Jackson - There's a good recent interview.

Also, Randy says "No album title yet." Let's think of one. I came up with a list of some.

Well I guess no one did manage to request "Lullaby" on 8/3! I'm glad I did manage to generate a movement for adding "Mind's Open" to the setlist though.

I'm pretty jealous hearing about some of these live and rare versions of songs people have. The Rover? NFW! I need to hear some of this stuff!

Is it possible that someone who knows the band personally could ask them if they mind if folks from this forum put together a live rarities CD combining varioius tracks people have, just to share amongst ourselves?

banterman
08-11-2002, 08:27 PM
By the way, am I alone if feeling that "Hard Livin' Without You?" is one of the worst Zebra tunes? I don't get why it's on "Best of" and why it's touted as one of the better 3.V songs on the website. That song just sounds to me like something some pop star who never in their life heard Led Zeppelin would sing, and I love the rest of that album!

RockinRob1970
08-11-2002, 10:00 PM
I guess Mind's Open is one of Randy's favorites. Just the guitar in the beginning is so emotional. As soon as I requested it at his acoustic show, he jumped on it. It's like he said in the interview (search for it on google.com) The first few chords in the song make the statement. That song is timeless.

About "Hard Living Without You": Very emotional. Not so much the instrumental part but the lyrics and vocals. Very touching and like reality.

I asked Randy about where did people get all those tracks of live performaces. He said alot of people have them from 1980. Some have come from more recent shows. If you have questions about file sharing or whatever, I'd just email him and ask. He's a friendly guy and does answer his emails.

OU812, re: your idea about posting mp3s, I think the server for this forum can't handle the file size. But maybe we could start a thread where people say what they have available and someone could make a master list and somehow try to compile a CD by mail? Or at least it could be a way for people to swap recordings.

I don't know what winmx is, but if it's some illegal place to rip off music from artists then I don't know why they'd have rare recordings of Zebra playing "the rover" in 1980, and I also don't want to patronize them and encourage unauthorized theft of music "like everyone else."

RockinRob1970

winmx is like napster. I asked Randy at the show where people got all those old recordings from the Madhatter and stuff. He said everybody had those. You won't find many from real albums though. People bring digital recorders into concerts/solo gigs Randy said. Mp3's aren't that good anyway. If your a real fan you'll buy the album anyway. Ask OU812, he knows about that stuff (right ou812?)

China Rain had some good songs on it like "Last Forever" The songs were written some time ago. Some sound like 80's bedroom metal, like "I Loved, You Lied". Still good though. I had the same first impression the first time I heard it too.

banterman
08-15-2002, 08:37 PM
Well, let me ask y'all this: if I like Zebra as someone who comes from the angle of a Led Zeppelin/Rush/Yes/Moody Blues fan, and I don't like "Hard Livin' wo/You" because it sounds to me like REO Speedwagon and Toto whom I don't like because they are too poppy for me, and I don't like China Rain because I think it's too much jumping on the bandwagon of hard rock bands that decided they wanted to see more chicks at their shows a la Bad English, Damn Yankees, etc...

would I be more likely to like the Sign CD over China Rain?

The only tune I like at all on China Rain is "Only Lonely Today." The rest of it I can't see how anyone could possibly think it is worthy of the guy who wrote all those timeless songs for Zebra, and I have to agree with whomever it was who said that Randy should not co-write. At least he shouldn't co-write with people who are trying to cash in on a stylistic fad when he is capable of writing true classics on his own. The only Randy co-write I like is "But No More" Maybe Guy should get in on it some more! (not to be opinionated or anything!) :-)

BY THE WAY, is the Zebra chick who was praising China Rain a few pages ago the same woman who was selling their merch at the Downtown show on 8/3 and who was telling me how great that album is? (don't worry - I won't retribute ;-) )

RockinRob1970
08-15-2002, 11:50 PM
I WOULDN'T MIND MORE CHICKS AT THE CONCERT.

Sue
08-16-2002, 12:54 AM
Yep Banterman, that "chick" was Chinarain62 and she said she was at The Downtown show on 8/3 selling the merchandise at the booth.
I don't think I can fairly answer your question though. I happen to like China Rain/Bed of Nails. I saw The Sign once at The Village Pub last fall, and it was "soso". Although, I was impressed with Terry Brock's voice. Maybe if I had the CD or saw them live a few more times, they would grow on me. I believe alot of Zebra fans were disappointed in or didn't give a fair chance to China Rain/ The Sign because they were expecting to hear Zebra. Sometimes these musicians go off and do solo projects to expand their musical horizions, take their talents to different levels. Just a thought...

RockinRob1970
08-16-2002, 11:26 AM
I thought the China Rain was pretty good. It wasn't my favorite, but I bought the CD and there are some good songs on it. From what I heard, the CD was released kind of late and the songs had been written long before the CD was out.

The Sign, though (Randy's "For Hire" project) I thought sounded kind of drab and too 80's. That's just my personal opinion. Randy said the label was an 80's label. (I was right about the 80's thing). Now If they could get a hit like the Damn Yankees did, that would be cool.

That's funny. I thought China Rain sounded too 80s! I'm afraid no one will be able to convince stubborn old me that China Rain or Damn Yankees or any music in that vain is worth a hill of beans compared to the 'bra, hit or no hit.

Yeah, that version of Hard Livin' is really fast. How about those handclaps too? I haven't heard my copy in over 10 years but I kinda remember some cheesy, mid 80's drum machine handclaps on the track.
I bought that tape @ the old record store in the Esplande mall in 1988 for $0.99. It sure was hard collecting that kinda stuff before MP3's!

My friends and I thought that the Back In Black cover was kinda goofy. It doesn't fit Randy well to me........

Randy is awesome but as Randy, not Brian Johnson. :)

banterman
09-22-2002, 02:27 AM
interestingly, David Crosby also has a group called CPR with his son whose last name is Raymond (b/c he was adopted and met DC as an adult) and whoever P is.

I'm skeptical about Randy singing BIB but gotta hear it. Speaking of AC/DC, did any of you happen to see the Zebra shows in '89 that were recorded for the live album at which Cannon opened up, along with Razor White and Deljuidice? That Cannon band was hilarious. All their songs seemed to be about hell, and then they covered "Highway to Hell" among some other ACDC tunes.

I agree, it is kind of goofy sounding. Way over the top for Randy.

I heard Randy do B in B years ago with his MIDI show. I thought he did a good job. If that is really him (on the CPR album (not Crosby), Somebody verify that? That was a killer album.

Randy told me via email that Mike Dejuidice is now starring as Billy Joel in a musical about Billy Joel, and then I happene to notice that also he seems to be doing billy Joel tribute shows at the Downtown club in Farmingdale, LI where Zebra often plays. I think the band is called Big Shot.

I have the CPR CD and think Back in Black is good but not as strong as some of the other tunes. My favorite is Zakk Wylde's "I Wish"...Randy did "Shook Me All Nite Long" at his MIDI Show. I thought that was a better cover.

Randy had played the studio version of "Why" for me when in Florida in November. If there were no other songs on the new album besides this one, I would still be ecstatic. "Why" is the culmination of all Randy's influences and questions he's had about life. I hope you all enjoy this one because it's "all that".

Well since you went to SO MUCH trouble and since you mentioned ME SPECIFICALLY...how could I not try to answer. This as we all know is a bit of a difficult question to answer (with ANY band). For the looongest time I absolutely loved Tell Me What You Want. But of late..'Children At Heart" has become one of my favorites and I still can't believe that IT was the song removed from 3.V. The record co. removed it 'cause it sounded like another tune on the album. Anyone know which song I'm referring to?

This is really tough, because for me I have three Zebra modes. I get in different moods for "Zebra", "No Tellin' Lies", and "3.V". All three albums have a different feeling to them. Of course you can listen the the "Live" or "Greatest Hits" album and get a taste of it all.
With that said, I would still probably pick "Take Your Fingers From My Hair" . . . ANY version
