If this is true, this is not as good of news as it would have been if DLR was back in VH, but its still really cool that Sammy would be back in VH. I thought the F*CK and 5150 albums were GREAT and I am sure this new record will be just as good, if not better, than those two. I hope this is offcially announced real soon...

Ok, all opinions here folks, don't shoot the messenger:

Dave quit the band, after 1984, to pursue a solo career. Ed begged him not to go, but did. Dave left the band for greed. Once his solo career took off and began to die, he went after the "Van Halen" name. Took Eddie and Alex to court, to fight for the name. This is all truth folks. Now, would you let this guy back into your band? Dave needs the band, the band doesn't need Dave.

Sammy on the other hand felt that he wasn't a musician, just a vocalist. Eddie let him write the material, just like Dave did. A singer has a tough time singing someone else's songs because of the feelings in the song and why it is written. So, Sam did that. Ed created the music around it. But with bands like Rush, who are still around today, you have to change your sound, you have to create a new direction, to keep up with today. Sam wrote music on current topics (Suicide, Drugs, Abuse, etc.). Dave wrote party tunes and beer drinking sex driven songs. During the times, those were some f'n awesome tunes, i'll definately agree. But the music changed with Sam. His voice wasn't the issue, it was his style and words he used. Now Ed had the final word as to how and what Sam should and could sing, but allowed it. He is at fault for any musical mistakes as Sam was. It is his band, not Sam's. So Sam felt he was doing the part since they made 4 studio albums with him.

So which ever singer is your favorite, look at the facts on who would be better for the band. Ed has always said it is not the money he does this, it's for the fans. I'm sure the Dave fans out number the Sam fans, but Ed feels that Dave can not hit the notes anymore and having him puts the spotlight once again on him and not the "band". Sam doesn't take the spotlight, he just does what Ed tells him to. Frankly, I prefer Sam's work, then Dave's. I guess because my favorite bands are Rush, Yes, Zeppelin. A more progressive type of material is what I favor.

this is what i think. I have heard for years that VHF wanted to do a tour with Sammy and then do a tour with Dave.

I did hear the same. That's why Sammy and David did the duo thing. I think that if those two ego's could put up with each other, then Ed would say, "What the fu@k". That would be the "Best of Both Worlds" tour.

I hope you're right on that one. I saw Van Halen with Sammy a ton of times. When I saw the Sam & Dave tour, we watched Dave and then hung out by the beer booth for most of Sam's show. I like Sammy and would go and see them again, but I would just like to see the original once more.

I saw the Roth Hagar show in Los Angeles... what an honor as mom and dad would not let me go to my first concert till I was 17 in 1991!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Metalica / Queensryche)

WOuld it not be the bomb to have three big sets

set one with Diamond Dave
Set two with Dave and Sammy together
Set three with Sammy

Encore with the two of them!! that would rule!

I know a few of the techs that may be on this tour... I will get all I can! And share

These are simply my opinions as well. I have to disagree with Ylee on 2 things. I don't think VH has to, ever had to, or ever did write music that kept up with the times. I think they always did their own thing, and the only way this reunion would be even minimally succesful, is if they made a stand-out effort of a record. Also, I believe there was a time Eddie did it for the fans, as well as himself. I'm not sure where or when that changed, nor do I know why he still does it (even though the last album was over 5 years ago, and was just plain awful), but I know it's definitely not for the fans. All I know is what I've seen. And all I saw at the end was a band that not only lost lead singers, but had them leave bitterly (barring Cherone, but he was only in there a couple years. He was still grateful to just ever be part of it all), while Ed was angry and bitter in ever interview, and did nothing but blame everyone else and their mother for everything. So he's Eddie Van Halen, I think I still would have run screaming, too.

EVHFV, one thing I have noticed is the music has developed more over the years. I guess with any band, they learn their craft with more feelings into it. Even though VH III failed miserably, I think the reason is Ed wanted to get it out before Sammy released his first solo effort after the divorce. Everyone complained about the new Rush album, not having keyboards and sounding to raw. Even with that said, the tour was one of their most successful to date. I guess it's their statis as a rock n roll icon that keeps them coming, same for VH. I think the album will perpel them back to an image, but not of the greatness that they were (in your era of choice). I think this album has the making of a breakout album. Who knows, if Dave can smarten up before then, he can have a part in it. I don't agree that if Dave would come back, it would be bigger then Sammy, since Dave has been touring the small venues. Again, a matter of opinions. Why put a 1972 Ford Pinto up against a 5.0, unless the pinto has a serious upgrade, you know? Sam has brought them to this point, if Dave came back how would he handle Sam's tunes. I heard during the duo tour, that Sam thought it would be cool to swap tunes, Dave told Sam to "F" off.
