I was going to send the FBI my thoughts on what they should do, but I just don't know about the idea that if they came knocking at my door to investigate me. These are my suggestions:

1.) Have the gas stations post a special 800 number on all their pumps.
2.) Patrons with credit cards should receive a free cell phone to use, and have it only programmed to call special 800 number. When they catch the sick bastards, return the phones and get credit back.
3.) Have the gas stations do a survey of their area, and have 18 wheelers parked to shield patrons.
4.) It's obvious that this guy is not skilled at moving targets or equipped with night scope, have people fuel up at night. Lower lights for harder target.
5.) Obviously, they are not driving the white van around, they must be siphoning gas. Probably buying the gas from the same gas station earlier. Parking their getaway car, and commiting the crime, switch back to the car. Check all credit card receipts for possible match. Have agents at each parking lot, with binocs, reading all plates. This can easily be done, by making one entrance and one exit, at each station. Saving the information may show that the killers are buying gas at the same station the crime is happening.
6.) Check anybody who is buying more gas then is recommended for automobile size. Those may be filling containers for lawn mowers or boats.
7.) Check companies that deliver gas to fleet services.

Like I said, the have to get the gas too. The FBI should be flying copters to look for getaway van, hidden in wooded areas, since no one see's it on the road during the day. The are obviously moving it to the next location at night. It's taking longer for them to move the white van, due to high risk of being citied.

I hope that anyone in the surrounding area, of this message board is unharmed. My prayers go out to those who have lost a loved one, due to this *******(s).

What's your thoughts???

Interesting points and I'm sure the FBI an other law enforcements have been checking any an all pumps receipts to see how much gas is being pumped and who owns the card. I hope they catch the bastard who is behind this and that there are no copycats out there.

I"m sure the FBI and the local enforcement agencies are covering evey possible aspect here. I don't know that it's "obvious" that this or these gunmen aren't good with with a moving target. It is obvious that whoever is doing this is a skilled shot and probably finds it easier to hit a stationary target. Let's also not forget that gas stations aren't the only place where these attacks have taken place. Having people fuel up at night and surrounding gas stations with trucks will not stop him. If he's buying gas with cash there is no conceivable way to track him. The areas from Fredricksburg to D.C. must have 100's if not thousands of possible fuel up points. Until this nut is caught( and he will be caught) nobody in that area can really feel safe unless the lock themselves in their basements, and lets face it, that's not realistic. Lets put our faith with the people who are payed to protect that this madman will be captured or killed before more innocent lives are lost

Doc, anybody who shoots deer is a skilled shot. The use of a high powered scope is all you need, along with a steady hand. Why hasn't this guy shot at the pumps and possibly cause an explosion? Why hasn't the gas attendant been shot at? Plain view, sitting target. The woman he shot at the department store was not killed, because she must have been moving, along with the little boy. I think they should park some 18 wheelers around the pumps, and make it more challenging for this guy. I still think in running plates at every gas station would not be a bad thing to do. It gives a clear record of who might be buying gas, at the same station these guys are commiting the crime. It's possible that they might be on tape already. Set up cameras of all patrons paying with cash at registers. This problem is not going to go away. He'll probably go after children again, but I'm sure the amount of schools is less than gas stations. Gas stations are easier because of interstate traffic at certain hours of the day. They are hiding the van in a secluded area, within 5 miles or so at night, and driving a regular car to it. I guarantee you one thing, if I'm in that area, I'm looking for anything that is white, and I'll follow that sob, with my cell phone in hand.

Well it looks as though he bought the night scope. It was only a matter of time before this guy changed things up a little. I was going to reply and ask how many 18 wheelers would it take to surround all the gas stations and what would the 18 wheel owners do while they were not making any money doing what they do(drive the 18 wheelers). My point was and is that the FBI and local police forces are doing everything they possibly can to make people safe and to bring this guy in. Unfortunately, they haven't yet, but they probably do not need amateur sleuths phoning faxing and emailing their suggestions. As a NYer, my thoughts and prayers go out to the families of these victims, and hope that this carnage is soo brought to an end.
