How great would it be if these two teams were to play in the World Series? One of them would have to win and the city would absolutely go insane. (You know, the usual celebratory activities like flipping cars, torching them, rioting. looting....etc....that's what I usually do when I'm so friggin' overjoyed!) The other city would be so depressed and miserable that they can NEVER win the championship that they will probably riot, loot etc...... Not that I'm advocating that sort of behavior or looking forward to a major riot, I sure as hell didn't "celebrate" when the Lakers won, or the Tigers or the......

I am a HUGE Lakers fan (even though I live on LI) and I am appauled at the LA fans for celebrating the way they did in 2000-2002. What a bunch of animals I tell ya!!! I may be excited as hell when my teams win it all, but I would NEVER go out and trash my city...that is ridiculous!

As far as seeing the Red Sox and Cubs in the World Series, it would be cool but man, if the Red Sox finish ahead of the Yankees in the playoffs, George Steinbrenner is gonna lose his friggin mind! But its possible...the Red Sox have good bats and the A's have good pitching but only 2 reliable bats (Chavez/Tejada) The Twins play the old school style baseball where hustle and defense is their key ingredient..so dont be surprised if the Twins/Yanks goes 5 games.

I would love to see the Sox go in ahead of the Yanks. I am tired of seeing the same old teams go in again and again and again. It gets really boring and is one of the reasons, I believe, that baseball is falling out of popularity so much. Cubs and Sox would be an incredible series!!!

The 2 biggest problems in Baseball are...

1. Bud Selig
2. High Ticket prices

If they lower ticket prices and make it affordable for a family of 4 to attend a ballgame without breaking their bank account, baseball would be popular again. Sports in general is not as big as it once was because most people are tired of the bullsh*t...

Bud Selig is a disgrace to MLB and we need a commish like Rudy Giuliani to run Baseball...could you imagine if he came in? Complete 360 I tell you...

Case in point:

Texas Rangers
The Ballpark In Arlington
Arlington, TX
Ticket prices $12-75 (yes, you can sit at the very top for $5).
Parking $8
Capacity 49,200
A. Rod - $25.2 million annual salary
Driving distance from my house - 50 miles

vs.

Frisco Roughriders (Rangers' AA Team - Texas League)
Dr. Pepper/Seven Up Ballpark
Frisco, TX
Ticket prices $5-18
Parking $3 (or free in the mall parking lot)
Capacity 10,000
Free game programs
Driving distance from my house - 10 miles

Sounds like a no-brainer.

Don't forget about:

Turner Field;
Beer $7.50 (That's $45 for a SIX PACK!!!)
Hot Dog $6.00
Nachos $5.00
Coke $3.00

At least they had some new teams in the Series last year.

Ya know.....think about how great that would really be for baseball. MLB LOVED the "Subway Series" and then last years "Battle In The Bay" was great and this year we'll see, but these two eternal "LOSERS".....would be interesting but they both ARE cursed!

malja316
10-01-2003, 04:44 PM
Yeah but that is their own fault they are cursed, they signed the players and now they gotta deal with it...

In the early 20th century, the Red Sox had Babe Ruth, then they had Ted Williams, Carl Yazstremski came, Roger Clemens came in 86, and now they have Nomar/Manny/Pedro.

They had NO QUALITY players built around their franchise players up until the last 2/3 years. So who's fault is that? That curse of the bambino is just a lame ass excuse for management because they only had a handful of players that were considered franchise players throughout their 100+ year history...

The Cubs....only 2 franchise players I can think of offhand...Ernie Banks and Ryan Sandberg. What players did they build around those guys? NOBODY! Another 1/2 assed organization with poor management thruout their history...

To say that Cubs/Red Sox would be a good world series because its been forever since these teams have won is fine...but in my opinion, to say that this world series would be cool because both teams are cursed is something that I dont like...because of the poor decisions these teams made in the past. But hey, to each their own.....whatever makes everyone happy.

I played baseball for 15 years. Baseball was my life. The future of baseball is headed for a crash. Former fans like me are NOT taking their children to the games like our parents took us. You couldn't go anywhere in my neighborhood without the threat of being hit by a tennis ball from the local street baseball game.
There are NO kids playing baseball anymore. The baseball leagues are beginning to combine because of the lack of participants. It's because the kids these days are not fans like we were. If they are not fans now, they won't grow to be fans.

Baseball is not for families anymore. It's for corporations and business outings.

One of the problems with baseball is the players.
When they went on strike many moons ago, they lost me. I was on the verge of coming back when Roberto Alomar spit in the umpire's face. That did it.
I haven't watched a game since.

Granted, the league has alot to do with it. Alomar got nothing more than a few games suspension and he was allowed to play in the playoffs. Had they really punished him, maybe I would be saying different. But they "dare" not go up against the union.

The owners aren't blameless, afterall, they are the ones that pay the outrageous salaries, but they're also in a no win situation. The players hold out for unrealistic salaries. The owner can either pay them and be the "bad guy" for letting salaries get out of control, or the owners can NOT pay and then get nailed by the union for Collusion.......

They're all rotten. F*ck 'em all...............

ok....I'm done...............Go Sox:D

Then to see them get by the Sox with that lazy grounder.......
I don't want to talk about it.

HUH???????????????????
The Mets should have never been there to begin with? How could you say that? The Mets had a solid ballclub that year, Keith Hernandez, Gary Carter, Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden...all in their prime! They beat the Astros in the NLCS that year in 6 tough ballgames and most of the players on the Mets that year were clutch...Wally Backman, Kevin Mcreynolds (one of the most underrated OF's of the 1980's) Rafael Santana, Sid Fernandez...they had the best team that year in the NL and beat out the Cardinals for the division...

I understand you are a Red Sox fan and that is cool, but to say the Mets didnt deserve to be there that year is something I have to disagree with. From 1983-1985, they built up that 1986 team so it took them 3 years to get where they did at that time.

Dwight Gooden's son arrested on drug charge

ASSOCIATED PRESS

TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 3 — Dwight Gooden's teenage son was arrested and charged with selling crack cocaine to undercover deputies.
Dwight Eugene Gooden Jr., son of the former star pitcher, was arrested Wednesday after selling $200 worth of the drug, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Lt. Rod Reder said.
Gooden, 17, of Tampa, was taken to the juvenile detention center, Reder said. Police refused further comment because Gooden is a juvenile.
The senior Gooden did not return a phone message left Friday with the New York Yankees, who employ him as a minor league pitching coach. It could not be determined if the son has a lawyer.
The younger Gooden was charged with possession and delivery of crack cocaine after being arrested in a sting operation Sept. 25, Reder said.
Deputies bought 2.4 grams of crack cocaine from Gooden and 19-year-old Kendon Rashid Davis, Reder said. Davis was charged with three counts of possession of cocaine and one count of possession with intent to deliver. Records show Davis was released from jail Thursday after posting $19,000 bail.
The elder Gooden was suspended for 60 days in 1994 for testing positive for cocaine while with the New York Mets. He tested positive for cocaine again while on suspension and was sidelined for the 1995 season.
Gooden, the 1985 NL Cy Young Award winner, went 194-112 with a 3.51 ERA before retiring in 2001.

ya think so? your not into Jorge Posada? Hmm...

Jorge's backup Wade Flaherty was decent this year in his limited role...

Joe G didnt really get too much playing time this year...though he did play in the Yankee/Cardinal series back in June at the stadium. The crowd gave both Tino Martinez and Joe Girardi standing ovations everytime they came up to bat...
