Just heard I WANA ROCK BY TWISTED SISTER on the radio today. My god that song is so lame . It just goes to show you that who's behind the door is ten times better than any of the twisted sister songs.I guess it was the look of the band that made that song a small hit.

Yeah, I also remembered when he got his teeth sharpened like fangs. Twisted Sister was part of the movement to heavy metal with attitude. Heavy Metal was already out, but these guys just looked like bad asses. Lipstick, eyeliner, finger nail polish,.....freakin' tough. Who was it, Poison forgot their makeup, so they used permanent makers or something, and all broke out into hives, ha ha. The birth of the Hair Bands. I would have loved to have some stock in hair spray back then.

Twisted was actually a killer bar band in the late seventies. Totally different band from the kiddy music you heard on MTV in the 80's. They recently released two CD's that captures the early club music (Club Daze and Club Daze II).

J.B. is correct “Sister” was a killer bar band here in Long Island. They had a bigger following then Zebra. Zebra was always second to the popularity of TS.
I was the biggest Zebra fan in the world back then, but that is just the way it was. Long Island belonged to Twisted Sister.
I am sure Randy, Felix and Guy all know this to be true.
Zebra fans were way more knowledgeable about music and we knew the more talented band. Hand’s down it was Zebra, but TS dressed up and put on make-up and gave a real good show.
Zebra just wore tee shirts and jeans. But they played the best damn music and were so tight!
So Yhea, there were more people that wanted hard chords and flashy guys singing songs about transvestites then real music lovers in Long Island at the time.
But, those of us who look for talent and wanted to hear the best musicians Long Island had to offer…We went to see ZEBRA!
Bob,
Good post....and some of us went to see both!
Did I ever tell you about my recording of you whistling at the Voodoo Lounge, with some Zebra and RJ acoustic thrown in?

Less Paul,
I was only 12 at the time, but did they really play Adventureland? OMG!! It was just about that time I became a Zebra fan, primarily from hearing them on WBAB. I remember hearing a story that they also played a concert on the overpass of the L.I.E. @ Exit 53 - did you ever hear that story? Think it was the early 80's also.

Sue...I was only 13 at the time...I lived in Bethpage & rode my bike to Rt 110...I got there at 6:00 & the show didn't start til 11:00..as I remember...all I smelt was "Armpits & Reefer" , but it was Amazing !!...Yes I do remember the show your talkin about , yet I was young...
Less,
I didn't know Wickers had live music? I used to work near there. So, I see you were a young fan of Zebra also. Is it safe to assume you used to go to Sundance (what a slimy place, but many good memories)? Armpits & Reefer...that's too funny! Is it just me or do you smell less pot/weed/reefer when you go to a show nowadays? I saw Queensryche last fall, the guy in back of me was the only one I smelled smokin- and he was willing to share. I went to see Rush last night...the 2 guys in front of us were smokin. Am I getting older, or are people not partying as much? Hmmm....

BUT THEY DID PLAY AT GREAT ADVENTURE!!!
Less Paull,
What kind of music does your band play, covers or originals? If you have anything you'd like to share, I'd be interested in hearing it. The Homegrown album...I was so happy I finally found a copy at Mr. Cheapo's. Because of that album, I became a Zebra fan. I can't find the second Homegrown album though. Did you get to see the Reunion show at Speaks? It was awesome

My belief are that people are getting wiser in how they decide to party.
