I finally got my DirecTV system setup again after moving last year and I have just discovered the new VH-1 Classic channel. It's awesome!

It's probably the only channel that will ever show the old Zebra videos. In the past week since I have had it I have seen: Rush -Subdivisions, Time Stands Still, AC/DC -Sink The Pink, Dokken -Heaven Sent, It's Not Love, Just GOt Lucky, Megadeth -Peace Sells, Deep Purple -Nobody Home, Rainbow -Can't Happen Here and many, many, more!

My wife Zebragirl and myself watch the Rock Show every day. If you like rock/metal you HAVE to get VH-1 Classic. It's worth the $35 per month for DirecTV just to see all of the cool ass videos. Somebody told me that they also play the old Headbanger's Ball episodes too (as well as 120 minutes).

I'm waiting to see a Zebra video. I'm also capturing the video with my capture card and plan on burning the videos to SVCD's later on to archive them in case they stop showing them because believe me, right now it's too good to be true. I thought I would NEVER see these videos again.

OU812,
we were there, but didn't have time to find anyone to chat with because we went backstage to meet Randy & take pics with him.
See you at the Oyster Fest?

OU812, we got there kinda late and right after show went backstage so I didn't really see anyone I knew.
I did see this one guy I went to hi school with though, he's the brother of former Shaw & LSU quarterback Mickey Guidry, his name's Ched Guidry. He used to go to Zebra show's back in the late 80's when we were in hi school so it was cool to see someone else over 30 but under 35 that I knew @ a current Zebra show.

Hey Big Sun???? Did you play in a band called Big Sun a few years back?? Did you play wth a dude named Joe Tullos?? He's an old friends of mine, just wondering

Yes Eddie, I was in Big Sun. I use the name Big Sun sometimes on sites like this as it's always available when I sign up for an account.

I was an original Big Sun member in 1989 along with Joe Tullos, guitarist Perrin Isaac, drummer Kevin Aucion and my lifetime friend bassist Rolando Chicas. Kevin used to be in another band from Laplace before hooking up with Big Sun called Exit 209 (named after the LaPlace exit). We also had some other members from LaPlace that played sax (a guy named Fly) and on percussion this guy Beaver (also in a LaPLace band called 30x90, the longitude & latitude coorinates for LaPlace). You might know some of those guys as well.

We used to play some pretty good gigs back in the earl 90's. Lots of people from LaPlace would follow us around the clubs like Jimmy's, Tips, Walt's, Nicks's etc. Those days were very cool. Rolando and I were in our late teens. We lucked out playing with Big Sun and getting good gigs early on in our musical careers. We got to play on the WWL morning TV news show & Jazzfest in addition to playing the cooler clubs.

Joe is a good songwriter. I just made WAV's and MP3's of my old Big Sun recordings the other day before the tapes are ruined. Looking back at that music even though it is kinda "pop" there were quite a few really good tunes. The last time I saw Joe was @ his CD release party for his solo CD The Scoundrel's Waltz five years ago @ The Howlin' Wolf. If you don't have his solo CD you should pick it up if you can find it online. You can get it from Amazon for $6 on CD: http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/ts/exchange-glance/Y03Y5235391Y6731110/qid=1032744593/sr=1-3/002-3782317-5504822

I always knew that when Big Sun would get signed that they would prob drop all of us and just sign Joe since he wrote and sang all of the tunes. His solo CD may have done better but his label Dinosaur went under right after his CD was released. Mike Nepalatino produced Joe's CD. That's the guy who produced the hit Squirrel Nut Zippers CD. It was record @ Daniel Lanois' Kingsway studio. I heard that CBS used one of Joe's tunes for some TV show and paid him some nice royalty $$$ and that he has written some country tunes in Nashville for some really big country stars. I'll have look him up one day and catch up with him.

When I was Big Sun we had this guy roadie for us named Mike who was also a roadie for Zebra. He was supposed to hook me up with meeting Zebra but they never came around for him to do so. I did just meet Randy and Zebra last week though @ the H.O.B. show thanks to my wife emailing Randy.

I played keyboards in Big Sun and play guitar now. I jam with friends but that's about it. I'm a network engineer and I really don't have the time to play too much music anymore. I really miss playing clubs. My friend Rolo plays bass for a local band Rigid and I jam with him sometimes. Rigid is a really good band. Their last show was @ the H.O.B. in July opening for Geoff Tate of Queensryche. Keven Aucion used to manage Tower Records and left that job recently to tour with some guy from Lafayette that's on a major label and Kevin is touring the whole country and I think overseas and he said he's having the time of his life.

It's nice that someone remembers my old band. Thanks. :D

Hey, nobody replied about VH-1 Classic? Am I the only one watching that channel? You guys have to check it out if you love rock music. It's the best.

They just showed Sammy Hagar's Three Lock Box. I never thought I'd see that video anytime soon.

Plus they just showed Twisted Sister's You Cant Stop Rock N Roll. Funny video.

I also saw another local New Orleans band on VH-1 Classic called Lillian Axe. The video was Dream Of A Lifetime.

I bet VH-1 Classic plays Zebra videos. I just haven't caught one yet.

I Don't know what it is about CT, but I'm wishing right now we had VH-1 classics!!! I cannot believe they have shown ANY of the videos you mentioned, and I can remember them all, except the Lillian Axe one. I discovered them only after they broke up from and ex-girlfriend. I had a hell of a time getting all their cd's, but I finally did it. If I ever saw them on MTV all those years ago, I didn't know who they were, and probably only saw it once and it never sunk in me enough to catch on to them. Ah, but I remember all the others so well. I have some of those on different video collections. Too bad they're all on VHS, as most, if not all, will never be made on DVD. I'm just still in awe....all those classic videos. If you ever see "Lunatic Fringe" from Red Rider...let me know....I haven't seen that one in almost 20 years. Man, when MTV was young and new, I'd love for it to be like that again. They can say what they want, I'd still prefer a music channel that played videos 24 hours a day. I'd watch for hours and NEVER get bored!!! The videos of the day were cheap, and even cheesier than they were economical, and it was GREAT!!! That's what it was ALL about, and I miss it!!! If you ever want to make copies of some of those videos and sell them, I'd be game to buy some from you. I'd be indebted for life.

Phil

OU812,
I knew a guy named Steven with a "P" last name but I can't remember his name. They called him Beaver though and he was from LaPlace or Destrehan.

I didn't remember seeing anyone backstage with a camera bag. We went backstage about 10 minutes after the show. Right when Guy came out after changing and taking a shower.

Hey Big Sun:
I've got it on right now. It's actually VH-1 Classic that got me back into Zebra after a 15+ year hiatus. Totally addicted to the channel. So far I've caught "Who's behind the door" a few times and "Bears" once. I'm hoping they play the China Rain vid sometime. It's so entertaining to see all these 80's and 90's videos to make me think....."I'm how old??"

That's why I ended up going with DirecTV, besides a few channels of HD material it's so great to see music on television!

Since I was in the 6th grade when MTV was born I do feel quite a bit older myself thinking that watching my childhood videos now is like what seeing a musical from 1962 would be like in '82!
