Hey guys, help me out, I wanna make a kings cake this year, Scott you told me about it once and I forgot, can someone help me out? Is it too late? You bake a plastic baby in it right? Does it kick off mardi gras, or what? THANKS

All you need is an over-sized donut, a glaze and some colored sugar. (just kidding but no really). Now to you Scott..
I'll tell you where I found the best ones at this year. Most folks don't drive too much on this side of town but on Chef Highway at Dong Phoung's Bakery they have an awwesome one. It was so fluffy AND flakey. The cream cheeze was baked right into the center where the hole in the middle usually is and it was cinimon with other stuff. I have tasted them all and this one blows them all away. I could have eaten one of them. I don't care who it is unless you bake it yourself that one was the best.

Rob that sounds awesome! Too bad its over 1200 miles out of my way, so unless I plan on being 4 days late for work, I'm gonna have to bake one myself, so cream cheese and cinnamon filling hun?......

Shoeluvr....it's not too late to make a King cake, King cakes start being made and served after the Twelfth Night (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelfth_Night_(holiday)) and continue until Mardi Gras day.
The filling can be any kind you like....cream cheese, strawberry, blueberry, etc. And usually the baby is not put inside the cake until after its baked and you are ready to serve. Remember...whoever gets the baby must bring a King cake to the next party! Good luck and HAPPY MARDI GRAS!!!!! :partytime:
PS. My favorite King Cake comes from a French bakery called Pouparts. YUM!
