Just for the record...the DOORMAN's NOT a gambler!
I look at the horses 4 times a year if 'm lucky...Today, Preakness, The Belmont and The Breeders Cup...that's it.
That being said, don't go by my picks, but here they are....
The last time the country was in a "funk" like it is....(economy, etc)
a little darling came along by the name of Secretariat to bring her back. Could this be the year that we've waited for? 30 some odd years since Secretariat an 25 since the last Triple Crown Winner.
The heavy favorite this year is Empire Maker. Empire Maker....The Empire State....New Yorkers gotta love this horse. I hate going with such a heavy favorite for odds reasons...(6-5).
Peace Rules has a nice name and couldn't be more appropriae with all that's going on. This one may have a shot, but the distance could prove to be to far. I liked Sir Cherokee but a late scratch has now brought the field to 16.
For the odds I like Atswhatimtalknbout just cause thats what my father-in-law says. My triple pick is the 4-5-8.....
"Atsa", Peace Rules and Buddy Gil (with Gary Stevens).
Another horse that is runnin' that is tough to throw out is Ten Most Wanted with Pat Day. Pat Day is often there in this race but bck spasms have been bothering him recently. Should come "in the money".
Peace Rules and Ten Most Wanted for fun...There ya have it.....

Well my friends.....The whole "New York theory" came through.
"Funny Cide", a NY bred horse ended up in the Winners Circle on Saturday. "Empire Maker" placed in 2nd and "Peace Rules" held on, in spite of the distance for 3rd. Nice payout for the exacta and trifecta..... The 6-12 ex paid $97 and the 6-12-5? tri paid $664.
"FUNNY CIDE" is the first NY bred horse to win and the first "gelding" to win in 74 years. "Empire makert" will NOT be running in "The Preakness" in a few weeks......and they're off and runnin' at Pimlico !!!!

A funny story. My wife's name is Kim, and her mother was in the Republican Womens Commitee like 15 years ago. For a dinner function, they held the dinner at a fairgrounds in New Orleans area. We got to the dinner late, about the 2 race. As we were eating, they were showing the upcomming race and I looked and yelled out loud "Number 6 to win". Some people smiled and the race began and number 6 won. As the crowd came around me, I hit 3 out of 4 races. I wasn't betting much, so I didn't win much either. The last race, was the point on this post. There was a horse named "Kim's A Winner". Well...............

(AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)

Damn thing came in last place.
