View Full Version : Live Version Of Rock Candy
There's a radio station out of Dover NJ - 105.5 WDHA who play a variety of classic rock along with a lot of new rock of upcoming local rock bands.
While flipping by channels a few weeks back, I heard a LIVE version of 'Rock Candy'. Besides Felix solo album does anyone know of another version of this song going around? I've seen Zebra do this song numerous times in concert before. I'm wondering if someone got a recording of it from one of their live shows and distributed it to the DJ or if the band may have forwarded it to the radio station?

Chances are, they got it from file swapping. Maybe a friend of a friend, said, "here listen to this". Hey, if they are fans, tell them they can advertise "TheDoor.com", probably get some new members in here.
WDHA have a pretty cool rock link to their website.
Maybe if Zebra gets the new album out we could get them to do some airing and insert THEDOOR into their rock link site.
Are you talking about the original "Rock Candy?". It was first done by Montrose/Sammy Hagar. Felix/Zebra do a cover of it.
No Sue, This was Zebra doing this one! Sounded exactly identical to versions done in concert. I've never been a big Sammy Hagar fan. Just my personal opinon which I'm sure a lot of people will attack me for this comment. I think sammy is just a noise maker with a loud mouth.

MARK. I GUESS I'LL SLAM YOU ON THAT HAGAR COMMENT, FROM MONTROSE TO VAN HAGAR, PRETTY GOOD STUFF IN MY OPINION, ESPECIALLY THE LATTER YEARS OF VAN HALEN. SOLO , O.K.
STILL A VERY GOOD VOCALIST!!!!!!!!!!
I liked Van Halen in the DLR days. Some VH tunes Hagar sings are ok but I think his voice is annoying when he screams at the top of his lungs. Like in his solo song 'I can't drive 55'.

THE ONLY RECORDED VERSION OF ROCK CANDY THAT EXISTS IS ON FELIX'S ALBUM, HOWEVER, THERE WAS A LIVE VERSION BY FELIX'S BAND, ROCK CANDY, WHICH WAS PERFORMED LIVE ON WDHA. WDHA PLAYS BOTH VERSIONS.

Zebra performed Rock Candy on the 2001 Mardi Gras radio show. It might be the version from that show.
They also did 6 songs from the new album during that broadcast.

Zebra was on WDHA-FM's "The Tour Bus" in December of 1999, if I recall correctly. The website for The Tour Bus states that Felix appeared on the show in the Fall of 2000. The site includes audio and photos:
