holy crap! celtic frost. i had the album of that trio, with black circles under their eyes; wish i still had that record. it sounded great back then. we covered "dethroned emperor". Is hawkwind a classic group? i have a tape that's a homemade copy, and there's a band on there = "hawkind". he may have spelled it wrong. the tape is roots of metal, and the song is "silver machine". luv it. sounds a little like kiss to me. one of these days, i'm gonna get some king crimson. I hear alot about 'em, but don't think i've heard them?, and can't hear shit from this webtv.

Ryank...I could go into the whole History of Hawkwind.
Its a long one.
I have collected more Hawkwind on CD, Vinyl and Videotape than anything else.
That is a good song you mentioned...but they have a million more good ones too! Check out the Album 'Quark, Strangeness and Charm' sometime. Excellent stuff!

If my Main Computer hadnt met with the Angel of Death...i could burn a Copy of that & send it to you! BUT...it will be a while before i can build another System an do that.

Celtic Frost are still active.
I talk to Michael sometimes through Email or the Voivod Forum.

U.K. are GREAT! Love that stuff!
I really dig Terry Bozzio on Drums and all the Music of Eddie Jobson. Do you have the EJ & Zinc 'Green' Album, Mr. Van Halen?
I really miss that Album.

what about "riot", not "quiet riot", but i had these two tapes - "narita" and "fire down under". great rock n roll. kinda like the cult. After these albums, it was sort of hit and miss. I like the simplicity and the singer on the narita album, but it's very rare, and i can't find it. Somebody swiped my narita tape.

Mark - I like your list, very cool! I understand what you are saying about Billy - I have to be in a certain frame of mind when I listen to him. Are they having a Dream Theater/Satriani/Kings X show at PNC? Ours is scheduled for September 14th @ Jones Beach. Hopefully I'll get tickets for my birthday...I'd love to see that show.

OU812,

Why the change of heart on my grade? Did it have anything to do with me throwing Stryper in your face? If you think about it...going from a B+ to an A is a big jump!

P.S. Are you trying to butter me up?

mark
08-05-2002, 04:57 PM
Yep. I'm going to see that Dream Theatre/Satriani/Kings X show Sept 13th at PNC. Got some really good seats.
And left a few off my list like:

Queen
Collective Soul

OK.....I'm not going to contribute to this thread......but way early on in the thread, there was some Celtic Frost going on.

I just had to chime in because - at this very moment - I happen to be wearing a Celtic Frost shirt.

Hey....does anyone have that rare recording of Celtic Frost covering "Making You the Fool".......or Zebra's cover of "Circle of the Tyrants".

It's nice to see 2 completely different styled bands have such respect for each other.

(this has been a joke......only a joke......if this had not been a joke, the planet would have imploded)

Well Charlie, you seem to have good taste! But seriously, to each his own. I actually thought of more groups for my list afterwards(like Mark said). For those of you who like Zebra and/or Rush and haven't listened to Dream Theater- give them a try, I think you will like them. They are a band influenced by Zebra and even give them credit in their liner notes. Anyone interested in hearing them, let me know and I can burn some CD's for you.
Less- To be honest, I'm not really familiar with Stryper. I remember in high school that they kinda took a religious stance on their music and that they wore black and yellow. I'll dig out my "Monsters of Rock" tape, and give them a listen. After Ou812's comment about Billy Joel, I just had to find a band from his list to retaliate with.
OU812- I didn't grade your list because there are a handful of bands on there I never even heard of!

I've got a confession to make....I own "In God We Trust". Yes, I know it was Strypers 2 or 3rd album, but the christian thing was happening. I actually like Billy Joel. Seen him with Elton. The King and Queen of pop tour. He definately puts on one hell of a show. Own a few albums, (running for cover). Lets see, my catalog contains: Kingdom Come, Giant, Cinderella, Bonham, Jude Cole, Extreme, Duran Duran, Bryan Adams, Cher, Celion, Kiss, Zep, ZEBRA, Rush, Dream Theatre, Marillion, Genesis, Collins, Gabriel, Mike & Mechanics, Yaz, Triumph, Survivor, Toto, Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, David Lee Roth, Yes, Whitesnake, Page, Plant, Boston, Aerosmith, Ac/Dc, Adam Ant, Def Leppard, Eagles, Foreigner, GTR, Inxs, Journey, Kansas, Men At Work, The Outfield,

Thats a short list. Around 400 cd's last time I check. Some have been destroyed, (accident and on purpose).

Grading isn't really necessary anyway. Everyone has a different taste in music and I respect that. As a matter of fact my favorite Billy Joel tune is: 'She's Always A Woman'. 'The Stranger' as my second. Poppish songs like 'Allentown' and We Diden't Start The Fire' & 'Uptown Girl' I can do without!

I'll have to come back here when I have more time and give a list of my favorite bands. Too many to put on here right now. But it's cool to see people into some of the lesser known bands that I like...like TNT, Giant, and Lillian Axe. Another one of them would be Zebra....but you all know about them already. :-) Another good one is Vandenberg (before Adrian joined Whitesnake). Great stuff!!!!

the meat puppets, what a coincidence. I happen to have a wav file of me playing some of the outro solo to "backwater" > try this > http://www.angelfire.com/indie/damiankidder/backwater.wav ; Those guys made like 9 cd's before anyone noticed. True musicians if you ask me.

well for anyone who likes the Meat Puppets, get psyched for Eyes Adrift, the new band feat. Curt from the Puppets on guitar, Kris from Nirvana on bass and Bud from Sublime on drums. They don't have an album yet but have been touring around playing their new stuff, and they are great. Great tunes, great performers. They played an amazing jam to finish off the show I saw. Most of the tunes are like Meat Puppets b/c naturally Kurt is the main writer, although Noveselic sings some oddball country tunes w/some good melodies. Their album will smoke.

it's wierd, though, that Nirvana had Kurt and Kris on guitar and bass, the Meat Pups had Curt and Cris on guitar and bass, and now Curt and Kris are guitar and bass in this band!
