Does anyone know what happened last night on the LIE in the area of Exit 60? I came off the train at 6:50 and my usual 2 minute ride home was 30 minutes. There were cops all over, but I couldn't determine what happened. Then I dropped my girls at McDonald's and got hung up on Portion Rd, cops all over there too. Headed back onto the LIE west bound and from exit 61 to exit 53 the east bound LIE was a parking lot.

I assume something bad happened, but couldn't find anything on the radio and when I got home, I came home to bad news (a friend passed away suddenly) and didn't get the chance to flip on channel 12 to see what caused all that congestion on the LIE.

Thanks Carl. I knew it had to be something bad. Unfortunately, I have to assume someone got killed.

Nobody was killed at the accident, the guy on the bike has serious head injuries. They had to close down the xpway to land a helicopter and do an accident investigation. There were 3 vehicles involved.

It's too dangerous to ride a bike here. My aunt gave me hers, I sold it. If I ever ride again it'll be when I move.

Saw in the paper today a 19 year old died when he lost control of his motorcycle Sunday night on the LIE service road in Ronkonkoma.

That's a shame. By the looks of the backed up traffic, I really thought someone must have died. I really hate some of these people who ride motorcycles, they play it too close to the edge, darting in and out of cars. Maybe this poor kid didn't do that, I don't know the details, but it's a very sad thing to hear.

I've been getting ripped on this just about my entire adult life. For some reason I always look at the obituary section in the paper. My friends thought this was hilarious on Spring Break. We'd get the free USA Today and they would fight over sections and I would grab the Obits until my buddies were done reading the other parts.

Last year, some woman I know at work lost her father and I noticed the announcement. I said my condolences and she said "how did you know?" I explained how I saw it and she said "you are a strange person."

Every life is important, and over 90% of people are generally decent folks. It's good to recognize other lives. Besides, until I see my name in there it makes me glad/reassured to know I'm alive and kicking!!!!!!

I read the obits too. I say "Bless you all and your families". Everyone has a story.

As for motorcycles, Louisiana is getting ready to pass a no helmet law again, giving riders the option of wearing a helmet or not. Now why the F&@K do people in a vehicle have to wear a seatbelt and a dumbass mother ****er on a motorcycle don't have to wear a helmet. MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. I have no sympothy for a motorcyclist who dies and was not wearing a helmet.

Just my little vent. Sorry.

I know so many bike accident stories I could fill a couple of pages. I know 2 guys that lost a leg. I know a woman who wiped out on a patch of sand and got ran over by her husband who was behind her (that one made Newsday). It took about a year for her to recover. I know a Border Patrolman that wiped out in a farmer's field not wearing a helmet (Arizona). He almost died, he was never the same after. Had a little brain damage. Heard about and seen a few deaths. There was a wreck on 112, the body was still lying in the road under a tarp when I stopped to see what happened. Bike hit a truck and caught fire.
