Anyone know how to convert a cassette tape to either a cd or download to itunes? If so I may have a little treat for all of us!!! I know they make a turntable that connects to a computer to convert vinyl but havent seen anything for tapes.

I have a JVC Cd recorder hooked up to my receiver. I burn songs directly thru the receiver from my tape deck.

OK so there is hope. I will look into that unless someone knows of a device made specifically for that.

I know they sell some gadget in the $400 range that converts LP's and cassettes onto CD's.
It's an all-in-one type (may have a radio) that plays as well as converts.
This link is for the LP converter. I get these magazines all the time advertising items like this. The cassette converter may be from Heartland or Crate and Barrell or another. It's up to you to see if the $400 is worth it.

Radio Shack also sells something that connects your receiver and PC together. That is how I was told to get it done. I actually bought the connectors but never attempted to actually copy everything. Someone I used to work with (a very cheap fellow) copied virtually all of his cassettes and LP's this way. He also was a tech dude so he knew what he was doing.
Last time I'm editing this. Found this one at Heartland for $299

and yet another for $99 (it's not a name brand like the Memorex above)

"IF" you have a cassette walkman, purchase a 1/8 male to 1/8 male, plug one end into your walkman and the other into your pc input. Download a free program called "audiograbber" (I got it from www.download.com). This program allows you to save any thing that you are able to hear from your pc. Fairly simple to use, then convert it to MP3 or WAV, then bring it over to iTunes and let it save it as an MP4.

I have a recording program on my computer and have converted many cassettes and vinyl albums to cd. It's quite versatile, moreso than a straight recording device like soundwave or audiograbber. You can edit by the millisecond, clean up the track by removing hiss and pops and clicks, and a lot more. It's what I used to put the three Zebra vinyl albums onto cd's. I already had the cd's, but whoever came up with the idea on here of converting the vinyl to cd, I did it, and it's awesome!!!!

Is the program available to anyone? How do I go about getting it.

DO NOT use the sound card in your PC for any recording where you care about quality!!!!
Either use a standalone CD recorder or record it to DAT and use some sort of digital input card.
Computer sound cards add all sorts of noise to the recording.
