Sammy Hagar has posted the following to his website: "Hola! Welcome to another New Year! As 2008 gets underway, I wanted to send a personal note thanking you all for another incredible year and for all your support and enthusiasm for everything we're trying to do. We have an amazing team assembled at RedRocker.com and there are tens of thousands who have been coming here over the years for information about our shows, music, and new projects.
It is with that in mind that I'd like to clarify a few things about this site and some of the other new efforts. First of all, RedRocker.com is the official site for all the things we're doing and will continue to be the central meeting place for all of our efforts. As you know however, besides the music and concerts, there is Cabo, the Cantina, Cabo Wabo Tequila, and a few other surprises on the horizon. Our latest major effort has been a personal passion of mine for years. I have always dreamed of having my own radio station, a place that would be a showcase of the most exciting new artists and new rock in the world. I also wanted it to deliver the same "feel good" energy and excitement we try to bring to our live concerts, but do it 24 hours a day.
We are so committed to it that we built studios right next to the stage inside the Cabo Wabo Cantina. We launched CaboWaboRadio.com on New Years Eve and I'm thrilled with the way it's going. As for the programming, I'm not interested in having another typical Classic Rock station. I don't want to get stuck in the past. We want to include great rock from the past but keep the focus on today...on what's new and exciting...on what's happening everywhere.
I've learned from doing concerts in countries all over the world, there is a huge renaissance in rock happening right now and no traditional rock stations are addressing it, and neither are the satellite services. We want CaboWaboRadio.com to be the one place to experience it...like “listening to the future.” If we are going to evolve we need to be vital and on the cutting edge of music. If we are going to discover the great new artists of the future, we can't stay stuck playing nothing but the same old music of the past over and over.
As happy as we are with what we've accomplished so far, everyone is committed to continue making it better in the months to come. We will work on the mix, do more research, get input from the audience, connect with correspondents around the world, and continue to listen and refine. I hope you'll listen too and give us your input and suggestions.
CaboWaboRadio.com has been designed to be a companion to RedRocker.com and not to replace or compete with it. RedRocker is about the music I create, the concerts and the experience. CaboWaboRadio is the expansion of my passion for music beyond what I personally create and my passion for the Cabo San Lucas experience.
The Cabo Wabo Cantina was created as a desire to have a vacation rock club in paradise and CaboWaboRadio.com is an attempt to bring the Cabo dream vacation experience to the world through great music. Plus we'll be broadcasting live concerts from the cantina and have exclusive interviews with huge stars and stars of the future.
I should also mention the VIP Subscription program of CaboWaboRadio.com. We set this up to give as many people as possible the opportunity of having an extraordinary vacation experience in Cabo. The subscription revenues allow us to create the benefits programs and return those benefits in the form of discounts in Cabo. It has to be self-sustaining in order to continue to grow and we want our members to get huge savings on everything from resorts to deep sea fishing and golf. We want this membership to be completely rewarding in every way.
This radio station has been built from the ground up using all my resources. I've made a considerable investment without the help of sponsors or affiliated radio stations. If I didn't love what we are doing; there's no way we would be carrying on. It's not a “fan club,” it's a “subscription service” designed to bring you as many benefits as possible.
Trying something new is always a challenge but I believe in following my passions. Check out the station and see if you like it; I know you'll dig the energy! And I hope you'll come to Cabo and experience the escape from worries in a place dedicated to having a good time. We're going to do everything we can to help make that happen for as many people as possible.
Happy New Year!! Sammy Hagar."

great. Now if this a huge success, will it start a trend with the local radio stations? Bad Company, Lynard Skynard, etc. are great, but new bands getting the lots of airtime may qualify as great too. Hagar mentioned being stuck in the past. Do you think that alot of listeners are conditioned by how many times they hear something? I mean, if they hear it 1000 times, they would tell themselves that it is great; it must be. I'm happy for the station, maybe it will awaken some rock dinosaurs to strap it on again.

I agree with this idea. Yeah I know it is internet radio, but it's only a matter of time before they hit the FM radio stations again and take over corporate radio. Tell them to go back to AM. With the situation with Analog TV going away in a few years, it will be even more stations available on the dial. I once read that the entire spectrum of FM radio is squeezed between our channel 6 and channel 7 on the dial.

Once other stations get wind of this, this could cause some serious shake ups in the music industry. The labels will be taken over by legendary rock artist, trying to prove the point of rock n roll. Then the labels would have to pay the rockers proceeds to play their "new music". This world will see a huge push from independent labels, and bands signing with them. The large corporate labels, will now have to bow down and kiss butt to the new stations of the world. I can see sponsors lining up to support this, meanwhile the huge labels begin their slow descent into hell.

Although i think this is a great idea, i just looked at the site, and i'm not ready to plunk down $14.95 a month for it. Maybe they should come down on that price. For $12.95 you can get loads of XM stations. I'm a little surprised, because lots of rock fans are young, and 40% off air fare, and other benefits may not excite youngsters who don't fly and vacation. Hmmm, part money grab and part inspiration maybe? Good Luck Sammy.

The push from Sammy is to promote Cabo in this, not really to take over radio. This is internet radio, not basic AM/FM. The purpose is to help promote folks who want to come and enjoy live entertainment. I was under the impression that Sammy was willing to put his name in the hat for a real broadcasting station. Internet radio is good, but only where a pc is reachable. Satelitte radio will merge one day and offer hundreds of stations, but even that is a steep cost. Money is needed to run these regardless. Yeah, I'm with you on the cost. I think Sammy will make a killing on the radio station, but somehow the extra proceeds go to pay for the extra costs of getting something on a discount. I always say that whenever there is a sale, chances are they raised the prices of something else to help accomodate for the lesser funds.

heh heh, i think that was me. I can honestly say i wasn't thinking of that kind of strap on. I was talking about straping on the old six string again.

Not too sure what the $14.95 gets you, but you can listen for free.

Does Sammy say, stuck in the past, as in still listening to the real music.
I took it as a launch site for "new bands" younger groups who play good music, Good luck finding 'em Sammy.

I know there are a few out there, but not many.
My opinion on this $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Sammy why don't YOU start writing some good music, Cause I can't drive 55 no mo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok, i can listen for free, even on this cheap computer. The $14.95 is for a VIP membership. I just dropped by and Frankie Goes to Hollywood was playing "Welcome to the pleasure dome". I'll probably be visiting the station.

I also caught a tune by Collective Soul that I've never heard of. It looks like the station is exploring b sides. I have an idea; After dropping by cabowaboradio.com, come back and post the band(s) you heard on there, and we can see what the station has to offer.

I've been listening for the past five hours. It's mostly songs and bands I've never heard of. I did get Motley Crue (Girls, Girls, Girls) and some VH (Black and Blue, Finish What Ya Started). I've also been called away so I didn't listen to the full five hours.

I heard a tune in the indie/rock/pop genre that i enjoyed. The group is "The Trolleyvox", or "Trolleyvox". Some of their acoustic stuff doesn't really do it for me, but the tune "I Call On You" got my attention. They are in Philly, check 'em out on myspace if you want to > http://myspace.com/thetrolleyvox
