OK , huge music fan as we all are....I NEED to know everyone's favorite debut album

Mine is VERY close vote but I took Aerosmith

Very close for me, in no particular order

Zebra (of course)
Van Halen
GnR - Appetite for Destruction
Boston

Please let me know if there is anything I have missed

One of my favorite was King Crimson 'Discipline'. They resurrected King Crimson with 3 of 4 new band mambers. Belew, Levin, Bruford joined Fripp in 1982.

Very difficult question. I would have to go with Zebra for a true debute album, although I also could have gone with:

Boston
Van Halen
Black Sabbath
Dio
Blackmore's Rainbow
Michael Schenker Group
Primus

If we count debutes with new lineups, I may have to go with Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell.

Took the words outta my mouth on the Black Sabbath featuring Dio....sorry to all the "purists" but I liked that album even more than Ozzy's debut with Black Sabbath

I'm a big fan of all reas of Black Sabbath. So many people stopped listening to Sabbath after Dio left, but there were some great albums with Ian Gillan and Tony Martin singing (and the one with Glenn Hughes singing wasn't bad either). I actually think the best Black Sabbath vocal performance is Tony Martin on the TYR album.

I have to say Rick Dee's Original Disco Duck - He was never able to top that classic album

unitl recently, i thought that diary of a madman was ozzy's solo debut. It turns out that it's blizzard of oz. I really wore that stuff out, and was nuts about randy rhoads. I do prefer diary of a madman. On the pop side, i think crowded house had a nice debut. This is a tough question, i may have to check my memory banks and music collection. I don't think it can be a poll question, because there are too many choices. I believe fastway had a nice debut. When it comes to the moody blues, i prefer the later stuff. I wish i knew more about debut albums - i can't recall the debut albums from the stones, the doors, hendrix, many more. Okay, after all that crazy typing, will i please just answer the question. okay > jellyfish

a close second would be "seed" - they made one album and then disappeared. they just didn't fit into the market. They were divers, beatles influenced - good stuff.

Great choice! I have been trying to learn to play the song "Diary of a Madman" on guitar for years. Rhoads is a genius. RIP Randy!!!!
Imagine what he could have done if he was still alive!

Jellyfish...man, good choice. Also, great band live.

Ok, debut albums, all from Asia to Zebra...many people like a couple of "B" bands - Bad Company and Boston.

I will have to include a couple of my favorites from the Midwest -

Stir - self-titled
Shooting Star - self-titled

Gregg can back me on the Stir release. Hey, Gregg, you'll have to check out the debut from Shooting Star as well...or at least get their Greatest Hits.

Great to hear from you Don! I was eagerly awaiting your input :)

Stir HOW could I forget
(or the Stabilizers for that matter, my ex wife being kind enough to allow me to keep that LP as well as my other LP's in her basement until I get a turntable...)

Shooting Star, Don? That would be a great name for a Bad Company cover band!

Stabilizers, decent, but not a favorite debut. Of course, I think it may be their one and only release.

oh, so someone has heard of jellyfish. i just found a tune that was on mtv a while back. They have a jazz background (the drummer/singer and keyboardist), but are heavily influenced by the beatles. You can tell by the colors they wear. Here is "the king is half undressed" >
http://youtube.com/watch?v=UyDhsDUorGA .

If you want to see more, try to search for "new mistake" the ghost at number one", there's more; live stuff in germany. The drummer plays standing up; infact i heard about this, and that's how i discovered them. The main songwriter is in japan? now, songwriting for various projects.

I love the first Zebra album and it has to be one of my favorite debut albums.

I would have to say my #1 favorite though is Boston.

Other favorites are:
Bob Marley and the Wailers, "Catch a Fire"
The Who, "The Who Sings My Generation""
Led Zeppelin, "Led Zeppelin"
REM, "Murmer"
Sinead O'Connor, "'The Lion and the Cobra"
Counting Crows - "August and Everything After"

A diverse list with a few many may not have thought of....or may not even care about for that matter. Thats the great thing about music.

Don, I enjoyed those samples thanks! My favorites and how I heard them...
Tonight - reminded me of Alice Cooper (forget exact title) "You and me ain't no superstars"

Rainfall - definitely E.L.O. influenced!
Last Chance - a little bit of B.O.C. "Godzilla"! :)

Stabilizers, decent, but not a favorite debut. Of course, I think it may be their one and only release.

Great song! Yes very much like the Beatles in their appearance!

Those even slightly interested in Shooting Star, and like I said, highly, highly recommended...I suggest looking into purchasing the Best Of Shooting Star cd:

http://www.amazon.com/Best-Shooting-Star-Touch-Tonight/dp/B00000DTOR/ref=sr_1_4/103-9654783-8443852?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1192800065&sr=1-4

Van McLain, vocals, guitar, songwriter, and Ron Verlin, bassist, opened for Zebra in San Juan, Puerto Rico back in June, 2001. Randy then opened solo acoustic for Shooting Star in St. Louis, Chicago, and Kenosha, WI later that year. Two extremely talented bands that should somehow do a double bill of 12-15 dates across the country, using the strengths of each other's markets. Shooting Star does very well in their hometown of Kansas City, St. Louis (where Zebra is also very strong), Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit, Cincinnati, Indianapolis...where Zebra would be strong in New York, New Jersey, and southern Louisiana.

I know Shooting Star is getting close to having some dates booked. I will keep you guys posted...not sure if they will make it to the East Coast or not.

Jellyfish...saw them open for The Black Crowes in 1991. I should let my friend Ron post something here about them. Though I have a lot of their releases, including a couple cds, a live cd, cd singles, and DVD...I think Ron has followed them closer than I.
