Do you think parents should be punished if their kid dies in an overheated car?

Some say that the grief would be enough punishment, but if there is no punishment, someone could decide that they don't want their kid anymore. They could just lock it up in a hot car, and then pretend to be upset.

At the very least the parents should be jailed for some length of time. They should not be able to "enjoy" their freedom after such a callous and negligent act. They can deal with their grief in prison.

Did they lock up the Columbine parents? I don't recall anyone asking for their heads on a plate.

I'm afraid you're going to have to connect the dots for me on this one. What does children dying in cars have to do with Columbine?

In re-reading this thread, the poll says "If a kid dies in a hot car - should the parents be punished?" I took this to mean a "hot" car as in hot rod, fast, sports car, etc.

Now as I am reviewing this I see underneath in the posting that they mean an overheated car as in closed windows, no ventilation for the child, etc.

My answer stands as is by the way I interpreted the question.

No child (or animal) should be left in a car alone period. That parent should be shot!!!

Kind of reminds me of the Gilda Radner character from SNL, Emily Litella, who use to say, "Never mind"

I loved Gilda, what a shame that she was taken from us so soon.

Of course. That is just plain stupidity to do such a thing. Cannot believe there are parents out there who have "lost" their child at sometime or another.
