Way to hijack a thread :)

I have tix for 12:05 in Farmingdale tonight for the whole family!

On the night of July 20th I will be waiting in line with the faithful for 2 copies, one for me and one for my daughter who leaves for camp the next morning. I'll be done with mine by noon and will hand it off to my wife when she gets back from taking my daughter to camp.

I'll start listening to the Jim Dale CDs of it Sunday morning (the next day when taking my son to his camp) to hear how Dale handles the voices throughout.

Is that nuts or what?

OK...

HARRY Potter (no spoilers): Saw the movie last night. Quite good! Excellent vision from this director, who is also directing the next movie. The fight scene is quite well done. Radcliff seems to be learning a bit about acting too :)

COLONEL Potter: I am a total M*A*S*H addict. I have been watching it since it came on (second grade?). I video taped in back in the 80s and watched the tapes until they stretched to death. Now I have them all on DVD.

Radar O'Reilly: The writers of Stargate SG-1 are huge M*A*S*H fans. The General in the first 8 seasons of the show was General Hammond, taken from early M*A*S*H. Also, the sergeant that puts in the gate codes is named "Walter" after Radar's real name.

Boy this Harry Potter thing is all over the papers and news.

I personally never read a line of any the books nor watched a caption of any the movies. :idiot:

It helps if you like fantasy, or at least the idea of Wizards, etc.

Forget about the movies, They s u c k compared to the books. The books are well written. They trace the 7 years of a boy and his friends through a school of Wizardry from age 11 to 17. As the kids get older, the writing complexity increases and the books generally get longer.

Try reading the first one and see if you like it. If you do, be sire NOT to listen to any conversations next week, as the vast majority of them will be about the conclusion of the series, as the final book comes out this Saturday.

Personally, I intend to be in line at 9 PM Friday night waiting for the midnight release at the local Barnes & Noble.

WI finished it a few hours ago. Without any spoilers, it does a very good job of wrapping up the series. Lots of backgrounds revealed, lots of loose ends tied up.

I was not thrilled with the first 100 pages. They seemed a bit contrived, sort of like the final episode of a long series that tries too hard. But after that it settles in nicely. I think Potter fans will really like it.
