Man I cant believe I'm almost 40 and really only knew 2 songs by Thin Lizzy, till our 29 year old mailroom guy lent me some of their CD's.
What a band!!!! And man did Phil Lynott sing like Jimi or what???
Also had some great guitarists in the band at different times:
Gary Moore
John Sykes
RIP Phil!!!!

Phil Lynott kicked some booty! Give a listen to the guitar solo in his song 'Im a Rocker'. Awesome!

I reied to turn my stepson on to them but he didn't care much for them.

I love Thin Lizzy. Too bad Phil isn't around anymore. I've seen the touring version of Thin Lizzy now and they are worth checking out. Sykes voice sounds just like Phil's.

I liked Thin Lizzy too! Check out the Cowboy Song as it has a good guitar solo as well. However, I though Lynott played the bass.

yeah, lynott was the bassist/singer. I saw a documentary on the band, and that guy really abused his body.

ryank WHERE can I see that documentary? Thanks!

Yes, Sykes is awesome especially when he was in Blue Murder and in Whitesnake (other than the lame Here I Go Again song)

TL has always been 1 of my fav bands and is THE most underrated band EVER! They were so ahead of their time and influencial to other bands it's ridiculous. Just listen to what they did and when they did it and it boggles the mind.

Everybody knows BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN, JAILBREAK and WHISKEY IN THE JAR but songs like HOLLYWOOD, ROSALIE, BLACK ROSE, EMERALD, CHINATOWN, KILLER ON THE LOOSE, BAD REPUTATION, ROCKER, COWBOY SONG are some of my fav songs ever.

Just listen to the guitars on HOLLYWOOD and CHINATOWN and you'll be blown away!

Their Greatest Hits CD or Live and Dangerous is a MUST HAVE for any true rocker. The listings are:

The Boys Are Back in Town
Jailbreak
Don't Believe a Word
Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight)
Rosalie
Waiting for an Alibi
Do Anything You Want To
Sarah
Chinatown
Killer on the Loose
Trouble Boys
Hollywood (Down on Your Luck)
Cold Sweat
Thunder and Lightning
The Sun Goes Down
Dedication
Still in Love with You
She Knows
Yellow Pearl (Phil Lynott)

[edit] Track listing Disc 2
Whiskey in the Jar
Out in the Fields (Gary Moore & Phil Lynott)
Parisienne Walkways (Gary Moore featuring Phil Lynott)
Emerald
Bad Reputation
Wild One
Fighting My Way Back
Showdown
Black Rose
Dear Miss Lonely Hearts (Phil Lynott)
The Rocker
Are You Ready
Renegade
King's Call (Phil Lynott)
Angel of Death
Cowboy Song (Live)
The Boys Are Back in Town (Live)

Many is the night I've had some beers and gotten happy listening to this greatness.

Dang, thats not the way the songs are arranged on my best of TL CD. Though inclusive of most of the tunes TPJM mentioned, just different order. But then again I bought it some 10 years ago too. Best of might of been re-released since.

I didn't know that "dancin in the moonlight" was lizzy.

To answer your question oldies, it was a netflix rental called "the boys are back in town". I just looked up lizzy on netflix and saw another dvd titled something like "a portrait of philip lynot". I really like netflix. Here's the link of lizzy dvds on netflix > http://www.netflix.com/Search?v1=thin+lizzy&search_submit.x=21&search_submit.y=1

I started with DEDICATION but upgraded to Greatest Hits with the track listing I posted. It's worth it for HOLLYWOOD and EMERALD alone and includes some of Lynott's solo stuff as well.

I downloaded and burned most of their stuff prior to that but the most recent version of Greatest Hits is the definitive TL collection.

Play EMERALD after a 6 of Guiness (or Beck's) on St. Patty's day and you'll know what it means to be alive - oh hell why wait, do it tonight!

OK I'm inspired so I'm leaving to see Zebra tonight and will play TL on my Walkman headphones before and after the show.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of the King Harvest version?

Yeah cause that King Harvest song is pretty lame.
But at least they aren't 'Dancing in the Dark' with that super lamo B.S. guy.
