Press Release:
Local Band Competing for Career-Making Opportunity
June 26, 2007 – Queens-based hard rock band David Shaw & The Round Trip is making a bid to play the main stage at the upcoming “Rocklahoma” festival in Pryor, OK on July 15th. The festival is a four-day event (July 12-15) featuring the biggest names from hair metal past. Nearly 30 bands will be performing and thousands of tickets have been sold. Bands scheduled to appear include Poison, Queensryche, Ratt, Dokken, Great White, Warrant and Long Island’s own Twisted Sister who will close the festivities as the final night’s headliner.
Rocklahoma organizers, in association with Jpotmusic.com are sponsoring a contest for unsigned bands in which the winner will receive a spot on the main stage in the festival. Voting opens on Wednesday, June 27th and ends on Friday, July 6th. Voters can register for free at www.jpotmusic.com, and when the contest opens, registered voters can listen to songs from the competing bands and vote on each using a scale of 1 (poor) to 10 (excellent). David Shaw & The Round Trip has entered three songs into competition and is hoping to represent New York along with Twisted Sister at the event which has the potential to be a career-maker for an unsigned artist. Shaw is asking for the support of his fellow New Yorkers in this endeavor.
David Shaw, a Queens Village native, released a highly touted independent CD called Walkin’ on a Wire last summer. The disc has gotten positive reviews from rock critics around the world and Shaw landed an international distribution deal with Perris Records as a result. David Shaw is a veteran of the New York City rock scene having been in successful local bands such as Shotgun Annie, Soul Crunch and Down with the Blonde. The current band, David Shaw & The Round Trip, has headlined Don Hill’s in NYC and opened for 80s hard rockers Bang Tango and Enuff Z’Nuff at The Crazy Donkey in LI among the many shows played. The band’s next area shows are on June 29th at Axis Lounge in Carlstadt, NJ and July 21st at The Vintage Lounge in Levittown. An east coast tour is scheduled for August.
